Clarence Clemons — the Big Man with the big horn — died today of complications from a stroke he suffered last weekend, said a source close to Bruce Springsteen. He was 69 years old.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2011/0 ... _dies.html

Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the oppurtunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band. -- Bruce

Hope he pulls through. Seen him with Bruce twice, and he is truly an amazing saxiphonist. Have a live solo disc as well. This is terrible news. thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, and Bruce &the E street band as well.

I heard the ESB has been told to go to Florida, for what it's worth.

Terrible, I can't imagine... Master of the universe, The Big Man, Clarence Clemons.

His entire Left side has indeed been affected as a result of this stroke. I hope amd pray that he has a full, speedy recovery and is back behind his Saxophones in no time. Get well, Big Man ,....

I will NEVER forget at the final VFC show in NJ back in 2004.
Wen Eddie showed up, and played with Bruce, Big Man, and the entire E-Street Band .
First, Eddie traded verses with bruce on No Surrender, and Darkness On The Edge Of Town.
Most of us would be more than happy with that,
But then to hear Eddie and the ENTIRE E-Street Band covering " Better Man "- was just, well, an unbelievable event in my little world.
The beautiful, rich sound of Clarences horns in a full out E Street version of this Pearl Jam Classic was just beautiful. I will remember that night, ( 10-13-04 ) for the remainder of my days. Just beautiful,....

    Get well, Big man !

    Some positive news

Reports say "Yesterday, it did not look good at all. Today ... miracles are happening. His vital signs are improving. He's responsive. His eyes are welling up when we're talking to him. He was paralyzed on his left side, but now he's squeezing with his left hand," a source close to the musician tells the site. "This is the best news we've heard since [the stroke] happened — it's nothing short of miraculous. The next five days will still be critical. But he's a fighter."

Man, I hope he gets better. I read over in the "uncle Bruce Springsteen" thread, that things are improving, but the next few days will be critical." Seeing Springsteen and the E street band twice, was amazing. I became a huge fan after seeing them. Was always a casual fan, But the live show was the suckerpunch. I totally understood the obsession with the band and was blown away. Please get well Clarence. I will Never forget the "Magic" show for Houston. (sorry exact date and year escape me), but I was in awe. Loved when he sang an "out in the street" as the band members were coming up and singing it. I thank my parents so much for taking me to this show. It was phenominal. Saw them again on the WOAD tour with two Best friends, also die hard fans, Again, Amazing show.

There's finally a word from Bruce on brucespringsteen.net and there's a way to send Clarence well-wishes on the news page at backstrets.com. As far as a current update on Clarence -- here's the latest I've seen, again, via backstreets.
The mood at the hospital today is "upbeat," a close friend of Clarence Clemons tells Backstreets. "It's sort of status quo right now, but the status quo is good. We're amazed — the doctors are amazed at the advances he's made. Bear in mind, he's still machine-assisted. But his vital signs continue to improve, and the goal is to wean him off each machine as he gets stronger."

No matter what, despite Clarence doing better than anyone expected, "It's going to be a long haul. There's a lot he'll have to relearn. But we're hopeful for a full recovery. We don't yet know if it's possible, but the movement and responsiveness on his left side is a good sign. More than anything, we want people to know how much we appreciate their prayers, all the fans keeping Clarence in their thoughts. It's coming in from all ends of the earth. And right now, those prayers are coming true."
