LET'S DO THIS!

Romney, the Republican front-runner, last week launched his second presidential campaign, saying Obama's economic policies were to blame for America's many economic woes.

  • I would sooner vote for an axe murderer than a Mormon.

But their cult has done very well, considering it was really just started by a greedy pedophile who wanted to marry three 12 year-old girls and not just one.

I guess if you think being a pedophile who believes in sharing.... Although that makes you less likely to be Mormon so much as catholic.

gaaaawd, its amazing to me that the terms "love", "great country", and "sanctity of human life" can be used in the same paragraph as their desire for only same sex marriages. :?

Personally, I don't think any of them really care, they just know two things... it's a great way to get votes from old people who see their place in the world slipping away... White, Christian, Middle Class people used to be the kings of the hill. And now they have to share their place with people of different skin colours, religions, races... and their economic place is slipping away, too. You can't have that "Leave It To Beaver" family that they had growing up... a working dad, a stay at home mom and a three bedroom, two-story house with a yard in the 'burbs.

The only group left they're allowed to bully is the LGBT community. And what's worse... even that's slipping away. Because their kids don't care and in fact their kids support equality for their gay and lesbian friends.

That's a hard pill to swallow for the people who wanted to live life like the Cleavers and the Cunninghams.

They see writing anti-gay laws into the constitution kinda like they see cementing a hole in the basement... they think that it's the only way to stop the inevitable. And really.. its just a way to slow it down.

I was having the same covo. with a friend last week. Our dads are huge GOP guys for all the wrong reasons. We were saying in 20 years people won't give a shit about any of this stuff because all the old, archaic thinking bigots will be dead.
In 2030 we'll be as embarassed about not allowing gay marriage as we are about segregation.

Oh...if you can read Krakauer's book on Mormon's and vote for one you belong a another planet!

hopefully it is just a way to slow it down, but I disagree with your motivation thoughts...I can tell you that as a group they don't think a like...some oppose gay marriage because of their religion, others because they honestly hate gay people...I dont' think it has anything to do with having to "share their place."
couple that with a a strangly held belief that they have the right to abuse democracy and you get constitutional amendments banning something that is harmless. Democracy should never be about stopping people from engaging in behavior you disagree with...only about protection of each person from having their rights abused. This does not fall under that category and should not be allowed to be put into law...
as long as we agree it should be as legal as any marriage I guess it does not matter why we think that...just thought I would add my two cents...personally I think the whole institution should be illegal
that’s right! Can’t we all just get together and focus on our real enemies: monogamous gays and stem cells… - Ned Flanders

My reason for thinking that goes back to segregation, really... They didn't want to have to share schools, lunch counters or drinking fountains with black people.

Modern day homophobia isn't much different. But you can't really tell if a person is gay or straight by just looking at them. So they have to go about things differently... they want to be able to fire us form our jobs just for being gay. They want to be able to evict us from our houses or deny us access to our children.

    Stop us from adopting.

But the marriage thing is where I really see the "segregation" thing most pronounced. Some go on about how "this is just for us straight people" and make all sorts of silly rules like "it's just for procreation" (which it isn't) or "one man one woman is in the bible" (it's not). Some want to have that segregation thing with "straight people can marry and gay people can have civil unions" which is like a "straight drinking fountain" and a "gay one." Especially since civil unions come with about 1500 fewer rights, privileges, protections and responsibilities that marriages get. The "white" drinking fountain always was maintained and cleaned. The "black" one.. not so much.

Maybe not illegal - but why the heck is a religious ceremony something the government needs to meddle in at all? There's no equivalent for baptism or last rites or first communion.

I never would have thought I'd see a black president in my lifetime - hopefully you're right about it just being a matter of time before this bigotry is seen for what it is. Then again, how much is the hatred of Obama about racism? Maybe we haven't come that far after all.

It's not a religious marriage that we want. But all the same rights... that's what we want.

I want to sponsor my husband for a green card... be his legal next of kin and him mine. That sort of thing.

Right. But the right keeps conflating that with their idea of marriage being a sacrament. Let them have their sacrament however it is defined by whatever faith they belong to - and let government recognize legal unions as a contract with those rights currently bestowed by marriage -- for gays and straights.
