Anyone else think the 99 cent downloads should be offered free to 10C members? That was my first reaction, wanted to see what everyone else thought:

no. i dont. they deserve to make money off their music. in todays world even the biggest fans download albums for free instead of paying for them.

to each their own, but i know the costs of putting out a record, and going on tour. and bands dont make as much as you would think. so , no. music is their job, and they should be payed for their job.

Playing Devil's Advocate here, but as a paying member of their fan club it would be a nice perk...not saying the whole album, but a single would be nice. It would make up for the lack of Deep magazines. ;)

However, the You Tube clip was a nice gesture.

a track here and there would be fine. we got WWS free.

and if i remember right, if you bought WWS for .99 from itunes you got unemployable free.

im happy getting shots at tickets, my easter single, and cracks at merch. in the goods section. oh, getting a deep mag. would be nice ;)

Maybe they lost money in the stock market ;)
But seriously, I don't begrudge them for offering their music at a price. Websites cost money, recording engineers cost money, staffing costs money. I can spare a buck to support them. And it IS directly supporting the band, NOT iTunes, plus it's DRM-free like it's should be.

Exactly, are people really bitching about a dollar?
  • what I'm annoyed about is paying for a Stone song now that will be on an upcoming album that I will inevitably buy. That basically makes me pay for a song twice if I want it now...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Cubs song won't make the next album, so I'm happy to buy it...although if they make a hard copy of it, I will inevitably buy that, and pay for a song several times...

exactly. my thoughts today were either A) invest 99cents into the Gold markets or B) buy a fucking song.

Would this be considered a real song, or is it more of a novelty thing? It would be nice if there was a sample available to check out.

I bought an entire John Coltrane album for 99 cents on amazon.com recently. I can't see spending the same amount on a song dedicated to some baseball team.

Honestly I'm not the biggest Cubs fan but it's a very well-written song for what it is. I was impressed. That Vedder guy has some talent ;)

wow. okay. so here's what we can do: How about every time pj gives something aways for free you can send me 99 cents? or how about this: the next time someone gives you a cd, you send 99 cents per song to the artist that made the music? or how about this: the next time you hear a streamed song online, you send 99 cents to the parents of the children that made your jeans.

Look at me, I can over react too!

    Good god.

It is such an injustice that you are FORCED to pay twice.

If only you had a choice!

    Good to know. :)

I'm not upset that the song is up for sale. I have the choice not to buy. For some reason I just assumed it was going to be free. I was surprised when I clicked the link and saw a price.

i really cant believe we as have gotten to the point where paying a buck for a song is even a discussion. remember having to pay 5 or 6 bucks for a c.d. single that you already had the A side to , but you had to have that "rare" B side? WTF???

    its a buck.

    get the song or dont.

would rather pay here at 10club then over at itunes.

    imo.
  • most definitely yes... NIN can release 2 full CDs for free to ANYONE and radiohead did the same with "in rainbows" and we cant get 2 songs for free after paying an annual membership??... i realize that statements gonna come off as greedy or entitled but i dont really get it... PJ usually stays on the cutting edge... the WWS single was free, no? lets not backtrack... all us freaks are obviously gonna buy the whole stone CD and the "all the way" 45 when we get the chance to so theyre still going to get their $

  • I think it all comes down to that PJ/10C are going to do whatever the fuck they want, regardless of what NIN or Radiohead do. So you either pay for the song or forget about it. You're acting like that one bum uncle everybody has that borrows money and thinks you shouldn't ask him to pay you back just because he's family. PJ doesn't owe you shit.

    Who, Uncle Sam?

And I do think that PJ does own me some Deep Magazines... It amazing how everything gets totally blown out of proportion here.

I personally think that the philosophy of giving away free tracks (especially to your fanclub members) is a good one. When all is said and done, the money their going to make off the sale of these songs is just going to pay for the staff that manages the sales of the songs themselves.

    Every band does things differently.

NIN had "premium" fan club memberships that cost $75, and Radiohead fans usually have to stay up all night to have even a very miniscule chance to get fan club tickets (since they don't announce the actual sale time).
  • I would say of all the bands, including PJ, NIN has their shit together the most as far as releasing music. They have options available for everyone, depending on what they want...you want it for free, get it for free, you want the cd, buy the cd, you want a limited edition signed copy of the vinyl? here you are. They are, in my opinion, at the forefront of where bands at this level should be. Too bad their music isn't as good as PJ's.

PJ can certainly charge whatever they like...but it feels like other bands are figuring out new, better ways to tackle the challenges of releasing music in this era. PJ makes me feel a little nickle and dimed. A philosophical debate, more than a monetary one.

That is not quite correct - it WAS $60, and it doesn't exist anymore. Anyone can join what is going on over there now.

Back to topic - its 99 CENTS. I have more change than that rolling around in a little drawer in my car. Just pay it if you want the song! My only suggestion would be to institute paypal as a payment option so I don't have to get up and go find my credit card.

I stand corrected...it was $60.....did they do anything for those that had unexpired memberships when Trent abolished the "paying" fan club?

Metallica released 3 or 4 tracks off Death Magnetic for free before it came out. You cited NIN and Radiohead. I really don't care about the buck but seriously..Stone and Eddie can't afford to provide the tracks for free? At least to paying 10 club members.

Again let me restate...I DON'T CARE about the buck and i, nor the original poster, are bitching. It's more about the principle. I completely understand their need for money after raising ticket prices to $77 though.

agreed... i paid the fuckin money and got them... im just saying... in both cases its something im gonna pay for again to get the physical copy so it seems a little redundant... and besides, i prefaced my complaint by saying it would sound "entitled" thereby making me immune to any criticism... if you, as a loyal and regular costumer, pay a prostitute for sex and she only gives a you handjob then you have a right to complain... not that im calling 10C a prostitute ;):p
