I like to watch for shooting stars/meteors...can't pick out all the constellations, but I am excited for this weekend...spending time out near the gorge, you can see stars for miles.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

    Me too.
I went for a quick camping trip to the middle of Australia where there isn't a hell of alot of anything really and you could see soooo many stars, was beautiful. :)

I like to sit outside on a warm night and look at the stars too. It's so peaceful.

Awesome.. plan on doing this in Wisconsin.

When I look up at the sky, it gives me this sense of comfort, it's a constant. One of those things to hang on to when I get down.. I look up at the stars and it reminds me of one of the things in life that I enjoy so much.

My favorite time is October/November crisp cool night wind hitting my face, and seeing bright bright constellations.

Yes. :D My favourite place by far is St.-Adrien-D'irlande, Quebec...you can see EVERYTHING. It is so incredibly magical to actually see with your own eyes that you are just small part of something so grand. Did I mention that I LOVE THE UNIVERSE? ;):mrgreen:
Lots of love, light and hugs to you all!

Defintiely need to do this again. The last few times I've been to Wisconsin, it was during a full moon phase. I'm planning on taking a few trips this summer, hopefully during a new moon so I can see the star cloud.

Driving across the prairies around Saskatoon in the middle of summer this one time and we had to pull over and get out of the car just to stargaze. We had northern lights dancing to our right and the edge of Milky Way on our left. Was absolutely incredible. Sat on the side of the highway for about a half hour.

I spend a tonne of time just sitting out looking at the stars; looking for satellites and meteorites. Really need to buy myself a telescope someday ;):D

So are you saying you get enough cloudless nights in Victoria to enjoy the stars? I haven't seen them in a week (too much rain and cloud) I am going through star withdrawl and unless I look at the calendar I do not even know what phase the moon is in right now :(

I love to stargaze. If you ever have the opportunity, be sure to look at the night sky in Moab, Utah. It is UN-BE-LIEVABLE.

I'm a big fan too--Love stargazing. You've got to see the arm of milky way galaxy--going through Cassiopia.
    (more than once too)

Once in the middle of the Everglades, I stopped the car, Put head out the window, so many stars--I couldn't even recognize the constellations--not even barely Orion. Awesomeness.

I have the hubble equivalent in my garage....but too much light pollution here.

I always look up when going outside at night.

So lucky. Skies here in NYC suck.

And I've looked up the skies there in Utah.. amazing.

I love doing this - I miss the freezing cold drives back to school, we'd all pull over and lay on the hood just to watch the stars for a while, the nights were just so clear in the dead center of PA. We'd freeze our asses off, but it was always worth it.

I get it ;) Looks like it's not ending anytime soon :( It has been an unusually cold and wet spring here as well. Oh well, plus side, at least your not shoveling it (for now ;) )

I luckily live pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Don't do it enough, but I definitely enjoy goin out late at night and star gazing.

Seen some pretty cool stuff shoot through the sky. A month or 2 ago I saw the most amazing meteor I've ever seen. It went from straight above me and didn't disappear til it got over the horizon. It was huge. On it's journey you could see it flashin and sputtering across the sky. I yelled out like a little girl, it was so unbelievable, and my friends had time to react and caught most of it.

Another I saw shoot across the sky and looked as if it was gettin hotter and hotter then it kinda popped. It made an audible pop and kinda flashed like distant lightning. My friends didn't see that one, but reacted to the flash.

We only get to see the Northern Lights on rare occasions in Southern IL, so it was cool seein that a fews times last time there was a real peak in solar activity. Nothin crazy like they get up north, but still mind blowing.
The best way I can describe it. Imagine looking at a big city from far enough that you can't see any of the light sources, but they make a big wall of light above them. Then walls of color would just shoot in and out and it looked there was a few spotlights(bat signals without the bat) being waved around. Another time it just made this mysterious light over half the sky.

  • I was dating this girl for years in the early 90's. she lived in the country, so after every party, we'd head back to her place, and we'd stop halfway to lie on the hood of my car and look at the stars. a couple times, we did more than that on the hood, but...........the stars were awesome.

my wife just mentioned tonight that she wants to take a trip up to Churchil to see the polar bears/whales/northern lights. one day we will. the northern lights are incredible down here, I can't imagine how crazy they must look way up north.

When I stare up on a clear starlit sky, everything just seems so small in the grand scheme of things. All of the materialistic things in life mean nothing. It makes me appreciate life so much more.

Next time you are laying on your back in the middle of a desolate field, or on your roof, or using a telescope in a park, I suggest listening to this song as you stargaze, drift off into deep thought.

Also, Joe Rogan the comedian pretty much sums up how I feel about the Night sky and the Universe.

one of the best moments of my time spent in Australia studying abroad was when i lied down in my big comfy Pearl Jam moonlight graham hoodie (RIP ) in the grass, put on my ipod and watched the stars in the sky. it's awesome looking up at the sky, it's comforting how the sky sort of envelops you in its immensity.
