I've gotta ask 12345AGNST1, are there ANY pj songs you prefer Dave A over MC on? Or do you simply have a blanket policy that MC is the best drummer on every song they ever made. (I'm excluding Krusen, Chamberlain and Irons intentionally)
Yes, except for Rats and maybe WMA. The new WMA is better IMO, but thats hardly because of the drumming. I just dont like Dave, he is complete overkill IMO. I like Matts off the wall style, I love how he plays differently every single time. I used to be big on Danny Carey and Neil Peart, but my taste has changed. I don't like it when drummers play the same fill at 3:03 and same this and that everytime. Drumming is all about improvising IMO, and drummers who dont bore me. (except Danny Carey, he is in a league of his own) Matt plays like a rock/jazz drummer, I love that. I personally think Matt plays RVM and Porch MUCH better than Dave does, but mainly because of the jams. Check out Proch from Bonnaroo, thats probably the best I've heard him on porch. PJ hardly jammed out on those songs before Matt, and thats because Matt knows how to jam the fuck out. The only jamming that was done with porch in the early 90's was Ed writing shit on his chest and jumping off shit.
Those not fro you videos, I see what you mean about Dave, but I just think Matt plays it much better. IMO They play that song heavier now then they used to, and Matt helps with it alot. I love what he does at 3:38-3:44 and how he goes off the wall during stones solo.
Oh and I DONT think Matt plays stuff better than what Jack contributed. I will admit Matt plays given to fly much worse than Jack. He USED to play given to fly great in 98-00, but now its just a rushed beat around the toms. He plays Who You are good, but definately not Jack good, same goes for his playing for In My Tree in 2000.

I can say we're in agreement on this.
WMA he's doing pretty good on. Luckily I used to work at MSG, so this last time around, I was able to catch the soundcheck from right behind the band. I do prefer the old version of WMA, but I think that Matt would be able to do a decent job on the older version, given the chance.
I just think Matt's drumming compared to Abbruzzese, Chamberlain and Krusen is completely night and day... and I prefer the night. Jack... well, Jack was Jack. Inconsistent and sloppy, but cool for a crafty sounding album song, like GTF and IMT.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.
