I wasn't upset, just saying that people have the same rights to promote traditional values but you got annoyed.
No, that's not what you said. Not even close.
There are gay people out there who are ashamed and embarrassed at how their fellow gay folk act i.e. gay mardi gras parades, flying the rainbow flag etc.
Um... gay Mardi Gras Parades?
What?
Mardi Gras is a straight event where drunken women are thrown beads by drunken men to show their tits.
And I guess.. if you want a straight pride parade, there it is. In all it's glory.
As far as being embarrassed by someone flying a rainbow flag... there's someone who needs some prune juice.
I wasn't upset, just saying that people have the same rights to promote traditional values but you got annoyed.
You made me upset with your posts, venting your anger and insecurities out me and putting words in my mouth.
Don't take your personal problems and the hardships you faced as a young child out on me okay.
Am I guilty that traditional values were hammered into your head since you were a little boy?
Will venting out at me change that?
I don't care that you are gay, no need to beat your chest and parade it.
That is just differentiating yourself, yet you cry of wanting to be treated as an equal.
Make up your mind.
There are gay people out there who are ashamed and embarrassed at how their fellow gay folk act i.e. gay mardi gras parades, flying the rainbow flag etc. and they just want to be seen as equals and live a quiet and normal life without letting everyone know that they are gay, not that they are ashamed, they just don't want to make themselves out as different.
I dunno, man, I think you kinda set yourself up by asking your original question.
I get tired of my fellow heterosexuals complaining about how gays "parade" and "flaunt themselves" and have to be so "in your face," usually for doing things that straight people take for granted (showing affection in public, expecting their spouses to be acknowledged). I agree with Prince of Dorkness, the way straight people behave during Mardi Gras shows that people can behave crassly no matter what their orientation.

Don't get upset if people want to uphold traditional values.
What are you trying to do? Make your values the norm and the traditional values the minority?
Just get on with your lives, live how you want to live, noone cares.

Sounds to me like you care. A lot. Have you thought about taking your own advice?
I get the impression that most gays just want to live the kind of ordinary lives that straight people take for granted. Not impose their "values" (whatever that means) on the rest of the world.
I've had gay friends for most of my life and had many gay co-workers. Nobody's ever imposed their views on me or tried to "convert" me. But plenty of straight people try to do those things to them. Gays can't marry in most of the U.S., don't have the family privileges most of us take for granted (can't make medical decisions for a loved one or inherit property without lots of legal rigamarole), face threats of physical violence just for who they are, are told God hates them (yes, some gays want to practice a religion), and get lumped into broad categories like drag queens or the folks participating in your Sydney Mardi Gras parade. Does this sound like stuff that people would chose?
The gay couple that live across the street for me aren't terribly different from me and my husband. They go to their jobs, work in their yard, hold garage sales with other neighbors, go to church--yawn! Some outrageous lifestyle. They've lived there over 10 years and they're about as nice neighbors as I could ask.
I don't know if you completely read the OP's original article. The point of the law isn't to give "equal opportunity" to "oppressed" straight organizations on campuses. It's to get rid of gay organizations. I don't think a law like that is remotely necessary.

I made a thread a few months ago about flying the flag.
I often see cars with the rainbow flag stickered to the windscreen or bumper or a flag on the car.
Why is there a need for that?
Talking about imposing their values on the world......
As for the mardi gras thing, don't ask me, ask the organisers (who happen to be gays and lesbians).
They organise it, gay guys attend in drag and lesbians on harleys.
They stereotype themselves, we heterosexuals don't stereotype them.
These people that dress like that only embarrass their fellow gays, they are to blame for that because they uphold these stereotypes.
Why are you telling me how lovely your gay neighbours are?
Did I say that gay people are bad people?

Why should you fly the Australian flag? Or put a bumper sticker on your car? Howabout someone flying the flag/bumper sticker of their favourite team? Or a band sticker on the car? Are you saying I'm imposing my views because I have a Pearl Jam sticker on my guitar case? Are you imposing your view on us for having a Chicago Bulls avatar?
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

There is a difference between a flag that represents a sexual orientation and a sports team or band.
So hang on does that mean they are different?
Australian flag = Aussie
Rainbow flag = Gay
Wow, so they want to be seen as a different type of human being?
But then cry foul they are not treated equally?

I've had it with you people and your take on things.

Why are you telling me how lovely your gay neighbours are?
Did I say that gay people are bad people?
Nope. Just that they want to impose their so-called values on others.
My point about my neighbors (who are more typical of almost all the gays I know than otherwise) is that they seem to espouse most of what you refer to as traditional values. They own a home, work at jobs, and have lived in a monogamous relationship longer than some of the straight people I know.
You seem to want the more outrageously visible gays to stop that sort of behavior. Have gays cornered the market on behaving badly in public? Have you read anything about Arnold Schwarnegger recently? Do you consider him an embarrassment to straight people or just a famous person who made a fool of himself?
While we're talking about former U.S. governors, how about Eliot Spitzer of New York and Mark Sanford of South Carolina? So 3 former state governors (out of 50) have admitted to extramarital affairs. Based on that, should I assume that all governors cheat on their spouses?
I remember your thread about rainbow flags. I wondered at the time why it was such a big deal to you. Some people enjoy letting others know what ideas/groups/beliefs they identify with. Big deal. I see political stickers that I can't believe somebody would want on their car. Of the approximately 2 seconds you may look at it in traffic, how does a sticker interfere with your life?
I made a thread a few months ago about flying the flag.

Why is there a need for that? Talking about imposing their values on the world......
Its all how you perceive it. Maybe you should think differently about it for a minute. You say that a sticker is "imposing values on the world"...
Maybe their intention was "support".. same as a PJ sticker, a cross, a darwin fish, etc. Sure some are beliefs, some are sexual orientation, some are simply support for somehting.
I didnt put a PJ sticker on my ride to try to get people to listen to them. I put it there because that's something about me, and I enjoy having it there.
Don't get upset if people want to uphold traditional values.

I'm doing what you just told me to do... living my life, living how I want to live. And that includes partying in the odd pride parade and flying my flag every so often.
I'm certainly not upset if you want to uphold your "traditional values" (although nobody seems to be able to explain to me what that means), but you sure seem to have your panties in a bunch that us gay people are being gay where you can see it.
No. i'm not trying to make my "values" the "norm" at all. I don't want to change anything about you. But you clearly are upset that us gay people won't hide from you so you won't feel so put upon.
I made a thread a few months ago about flying the flag.

I see Christians wearing cross earring and necklaces, that "Jesus Fish" thing on their cars.. Christians handing out leaflets and comic books intended to bring people to their churches.
The Salvation Army, for fuck's sake.
Countless "God Marches" and billboards all over the place saying "Jesus is the way" and "God is watching you" and "the Rapture is May 21st."
And while we're talking about "imposing their values on the world," let's talk about laws meant to take away the rights of gays and lesbians, shall we? Let's talk about ministers preaching hate against gay teenagers, let's talk about Christians forcing their "values" on the world. Because I'll win that one, [inappropriate comment removed]
I, however, have no problem with people flying a Christian flag or having a Jesus Fish bumper sticker... if that represents who and what you are... you show it off. Makes us all individual. Can you imagine how boring the world would be if we were all the same?
I'll have my rainbow sticker if I want. And I'm sorry if my not hiding from you makes you feel like I'm forcing my "values" on you. By the way... what "values" is it that I have that you don't?

Nobody is "making a fuss" about someone wanting to "promote traditional values" (you still haven't explained to me what that means). The article is saying that if a school allows a gay group to form their own club, they have to give money for a straight version. Whether anyone wants to start one or not. Sounds more like a few terrified Christians shoving THEIR "values" down other people's throats.
How is that me saying that nobody is promoting traditional values lol?
I am saying they have every right to hammer home the message of traditional values, just as much right as you hammering home your values, both have the same rights to promote their values.
It appears me that you get angry that they want to promote traditional values hence me saying that second quoted line.
Traditional values = hetero relationship (man and woman) / marriage / having a family.....
Sounds like they want to maintain the traditional values yes.

How many times does it need to be said? No Personal Comments. When you debate, you discuss the topic, not the person you're debating. This is basic. It's the foundation of discussion and if you break that rule, you concede your side of the discussion immmediately. Whatever you say after that means nothing because you broke the #1 rule.

i view marriage in a legal sense, and when it is applied like that you should be able to enter into that leagl contract with whomever you wish regardless of gender.
