Godfather.
Um... ok.
My own "insecurities?"
About what? I'm quite open about being gay... I'm in a gay motorcycle club, a gay community group that raises money for a gay youth homeless shelter and volunteer for a political action group that is campaigning for gay marriage. It's not my responsibility to also make sure there are "straight" motorcycle clubs or "straight" community groups that cater to people who can't be arsed to organize them themselves.
I'm not pointing any fingers at all... but from the post I'm responding to, it's pretty clear that someone is pointing fingers. It's not my responsibility to stand up for your "traditional values."
Your response above is the Limbaugh-like obtuse "I know you are but what am I" type or the Trump-like "you clearly have something to hide" innuendo that you think is going to score you points. It's not.
I'm in a gay motorcycle club ? I have been around a lot of M/C's but never heard of a gay motorcycle club.

Well then... The Oedipus Motorcycle club has been around since the mid 50s. They're the second-oldest gay motorcycle club in America, second only to the Satyr Motorcycle Club that is 3 years older.
I'm in the Mello Moto club.
There's also the Warriors and the Motochicka clubs here in Los Angeles and I often ride with the Gay sportbike riders of SoCal.
And that's just here. There are literally hundreds of gay riding groups and clubs across the country.0 -

Prince Of Dorkness wrote:Are you getting upset?
Yeah, kinda.
If you are upset about "hammering home" what you call "alternative values" (which is pretty insulting... that's just gay and lesbian people standing up for themselves) and that there's nobody standing up for your "traditional values" (that are pretty much written into the constitution), it sounds more like YOU have a complex.
I'm sure that it's a new experience for you to get told off by a gay person like that. But you might have to get used to it.
Whatever man, no one is getting upset but reading the above is now making me get upset with you putting words in my mouth and accusing me.
Telling me off for what? What have I done to upset you other than just ask a question?
Whatever, like I give a shit if you will tell me off, go fuck yourself if you are going to have such an attitude.
Get over yourself.
Just go and enjoy your Sons of Anarchy outlaw MC club and leave me alone please.

really?
Because it sure sounded to me like you were upset that nobody was out there sending a message for your "traditional values."
Of course... nobody is saying they're not going to hammer home "traditional values."
Trust me, as a married gay man, I've had traditional values hammered into my head since I was a little boy. Do you really feel like your values don't get enough air time?0 -
I wasn't upset, just saying that people have the same rights to promote traditional values but you got annoyed.
You made me upset with your posts, venting your anger and insecurities out me and putting words in my mouth.
Don't take your personal problems and the hardships you faced as a young child out on me okay.
Am I guilty that traditional values were hammered into your head since you were a little boy?
Will venting out at me change that?
I don't care that you are gay, no need to beat your chest and parade it.
That is just differentiating yourself, yet you cry of wanting to be treated as an equal.
Make up your mind.
There are gay people out there who are ashamed and embarrassed at how their fellow gay folk act i.e. gay mardi gras parades, flying the rainbow flag etc. and they just want to be seen as equals and live a quiet and normal life without letting everyone know that they are gay, not that they are ashamed, they just don't want to make themselves out as different.Adelaide 17/11/2009, Melbourne 20/11/2009, Sydney 22/11/2009, Melbourne (Big Day Out Festival) 24/01/20140 -

No, that's not what you said. Not even close. There are gay people out there who are ashamed and embarrassed at how their fellow gay folk act i.e. gay mardi gras parades, flying the rainbow flag etc.
Um... gay Mardi Gras Parades?
What?
Mardi Gras is a straight event where drunken women are thrown beads by drunken men to show their tits.
And I guess.. if you want a straight pride parade, there it is. In all it's glory.
As far as being embarrassed by someone flying a rainbow flag... there's someone who needs some prune juice.0 -

I get tired of my fellow heterosexuals complaining about how gays "parade" and "flaunt themselves" and have to be so "in your face," usually for doing things that straight people take for granted (showing affection in public, expecting their spouses to be acknowledged). I agree with Prince of Dorkness, the way straight people behave during Mardi Gras shows that people can behave crassly no matter what their orientation."The stars are all connected to the brain."0 -
oh hey, I'm no saint.
I make gay porn for a living and I've been known to whip out my junk at Southern Decadence, too. Beer makes me do silly stuff and debauchery is fun.
(and I'm not sure why he brought up Mardi Gras unless his point was akin do "do you gay people have to always be so gay?")
But WhoPrincess is right... anyone can behave in a crass fashion and he did kinda set himself up for it. :twisted:0 -

Don't get upset if people want to uphold traditional values.
What are you trying to do? Make your values the norm and the traditional values the minority?

I get the impression that most gays just want to live the kind of ordinary lives that straight people take for granted. Not impose their "values" (whatever that means) on the rest of the world.
I've had gay friends for most of my life and had many gay co-workers. Nobody's ever imposed their views on me or tried to "convert" me. But plenty of straight people try to do those things to them. Gays can't marry in most of the U.S., don't have the family privileges most of us take for granted (can't make medical decisions for a loved one or inherit property without lots of legal rigamarole), face threats of physical violence just for who they are, are told God hates them (yes, some gays want to practice a religion), and get lumped into broad categories like drag queens or the folks participating in your Sydney Mardi Gras parade. Does this sound like stuff that people would chose?
The gay couple that live across the street for me aren't terribly different from me and my husband. They go to their jobs, work in their yard, hold garage sales with other neighbors, go to church--yawn! Some outrageous lifestyle. They've lived there over 10 years and they're about as nice neighbors as I could ask.
I don't know if you completely read the OP's original article. The point of the law isn't to give "equal opportunity" to "oppressed" straight organizations on campuses. It's to get rid of gay organizations. I don't think a law like that is remotely necessary."The stars are all connected to the brain."0 -

I made a thread a few months ago about flying the flag.
I often see cars with the rainbow flag stickered to the windscreen or bumper or a flag on the car.
Why is there a need for that?
Talking about imposing their values on the world......
As for the mardi gras thing, don't ask me, ask the organisers (who happen to be gays and lesbians).
They organise it, gay guys attend in drag and lesbians on harleys.
They stereotype themselves, we heterosexuals don't stereotype them.
These people that dress like that only embarrass their fellow gays, they are to blame for that because they uphold these stereotypes.
Why are you telling me how lovely your gay neighbours are?
Did I say that gay people are bad people?Adelaide 17/11/2009, Melbourne 20/11/2009, Sydney 22/11/2009, Melbourne (Big Day Out Festival) 24/01/20140 -

There is a difference between a flag that represents a sexual orientation and a sports team or band.
So hang on does that mean they are different?
Australian flag = Aussie
Rainbow flag = Gay
Wow, so they want to be seen as a different type of human being?
But then cry foul they are not treated equally?

I've had it with you people and your take on things.
