“Many of us would gladly take the responsibility of hurt for those we love. We feel we would be more capable of bearing it, more apt to handle it. We want to leave them as unscathed and near perfect as possible. But we cannot take some people’s problems. They must use their own strength and learn what is true and false in living. Not so different from us, they might not take the wisest steps. It may also be hard for them to believe that our experiences have ever been as wretched as their own. It is difficult not to cry with those we love. Our hearts cry, even when frustration makes our faces stern and stoic. But we have to allow other people to put down their feet and take a stand. How can they become strong in their own right if we try to be in their legs?”

crazy indeed. sunday was bay to breakers, when 40,000 people ran, walked or stumbled from downtown out to ocean beach. the folks who dressed up (or went naked  ) and drank, tended to stay in costume and continue to drink for the rest of the day.

but I can't throw stones.....friday, we took the train down south to see some friends and I got really, really drunk.....saturday, we started drinking before the giants game, continued through the day and into the night. I got drunk, but not as bad as friday  .....sunday, more of the same....beer and baseball....followed up by Flight to Mars....at that point, I was getting pretty saturated by beer and didn't feel too drunk.

it was great hanging out with Jon, Selin and Sara prior to FTM. I swear, this "community" is populated by the BEST people  . finally, the best line of the long weekend came from my wife Codie at the oakland airport on monday....it's 11:00 am; we're waiting on our flight home; there's a starbucks and a bar at our gate; I ask her "coffee or beer? your call"....without hesitation, Codie says "I've already had PLENTY of coffee this morning  . yeah, we're pretty compatible ;)

my feet are numb and my hands ache like you wouldn't believe...24/7 :x

I am so sick of this.

I'm seeing an MD acupuncturist on 6/6 (as opposed to the non-MD people I've been going to). I'm hoping against hope that this person has the silver bullet. I'm also ready to ditch the neurontin and try some other drug. fuck.

    end of rant.

    I like that....acupuncturista

I had a good long talk with her.....over an hour and she was typing notes the whole time (unless she was on some band's message board  ). she didn't do any acupuncture but said what my hippies are doing is the same as she would do. she did give me some new drugs....cymbalta (an anti depressant that has been shown to somehow help neuropathy) and a cream I had to have made up at a "compounding pharmacy." it is a mix of gabapentin, keta-something, keto-something and lidocaine.

things still suck....but maybe the cymbalta will have me grinning for no reason

I had a colonoscopy on Monday and that was all good

Yea for colonoscopies?  Well, that certainly is good news. But hey, I've been thinking alot about what you must be going through and I can't imagine it. I had a pinched nerve in my neck and my whole left arm went numb and my four fingers went all tinglely. I suffered for a week because of some stupid work training that kept me from the doctor and between the pain of my shoulder/arm and the constant feeling that my hand was asleep or frostbitten, it drove me mad. Even after getting pain killers and trying physical therapy for three months, nothing relieved it until I had a cortison shot. Now that seems to be wearing off and I'm fretting the future. But what you've been dealing with Rob, is my issue times a factor of 20. And you're still keeping on and keeping your sense of humor. I feel for you and wish I could wave a wand and make it all go away. Try the drugs, smoke dope if you feel the need and don't be afraid to try "alternative" therapies. Something might do the trick. At least the acupuncturista scene should be entertaining and will get you out of the house. Have you taken Gracie? I hear acupuncture is great for dogs.

Hey, be well, hang in there and keep kicking the shit out of that punk ass bitch cancer and its ilk!

    Peace.
