Definitely looking forward to trying some New Glarus beers. They have a couple beers that are really highly rated on beer advocate (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/590). 2 of them being in the top 100 overall (Wisconsin Belgian Red and Rasberry Tart). Also looks like they make a couple good hefeweizens which will be good for the hot weather.

The Great Lakes area might be the best area in the country for craft beers with breweries like Founders, Three Floyds, Bells, Great Lakes Brewery, Goose Island and Jolly Pumpkin. I hope there beers are available in the Alpine Valley area.

If New Glarus isn't far I might check out the brewery for a tour.

Summit Extra Pale Ale is one of my favorites.

Also, the Superior Brewing Company makes a damn good ale.

Booked the Friday Sept 2nd Hard Hat tour at New Glarus over the weekend, and bought a massive 165 qt Igloo cooler yesterday at Costco, strictly for the purpose of stockpiling New Glarus beers on PJ20 weekend...

    I might be a beer knurd :)

Anyone know off hand if Three Floyds distributes to Wisc as well? Need some Dreadnaught and Gumballhead too!!!

Three Floyd's does distribute to WI. How available their beers are in the Alpine Valley area is the question. I'm gonna ask around on the beeradvocate forums. I've never had any of there beers and I've been wanting to for a long time.

New Glarus is a Swiss community. The brewery that you can tour is on the top of a hill. It was built in the past few years. It is one of the best settings that I have found. There are also some good tasty Swiss restaurants and cheese/ chocolate shops.[/quote]

Yes you are totally correct my error- Swiss - I was thinking about Ikea when I wrote this ;)

The last time I was in Lake Geneva, they were serving Three Floyd's at Popeye's, so there's a good chance of it! Mmmmmm

My two favorite beers that you must try. Lakefront is in Milwaukee if you are in the city and have time to take a tour. Otherwise Sprecher has a lot of good beers. I tend to stay away from Leinenkugels.

Speaking of, if you are driving over for PJ20, I'd take a Furious refill.

New Glarus and 3 Floyds would make for an amazing haul!

I'll most likely be bringing the Gumballhead!! I'd love to bring some Dreadnaught as well, but I'm going to stick to the lower abv beers since it's going to be a long day of drinking!

Speaking of New Glarus... make sure everyone tries the Moon Man. It's a perfectly hopped pale ale... and very sessionable...

Lake Louie makes awesome beer. If you see Lupulin Maximus from O'so Brewing, you have to try it. Good stuff also comes out of Tyranena. Even though they aren't my favorites, Capital Brewing, Central Waters, and Furthermore make some decent brews.

OMG!!! Lupulin Maximus is awesome!!!! Add that to the list for sure! (now on to read the rest of the thread :D )

Road tripping out from Boston. Staying in Grand Rapids after the Tiger game on Wednesday...our hotel is a 5 minute walk from the Founders Tap Room, so I'll be twisting their arm to dig out some Canadian Breakfast Stout. Gonna hit Three Floyds on the road Thursday and hopefully New Glarus at some point Friday or Monday.

I prefer hoppier beers, so... New Glarus has an excellent double IPA. Don't know what the name of it is but it comes in a four-pack and the bottles are marked I.I.P.A on the neck. Ale Asylum's Bedlam is awesome, and their seasonal Satisfaction Jacksin is supposed to be available in September. Never had it but with 3# of hops :D Lakefront makes some great brews. If you're in Madison stop by a Great Dane. They don't sell 6-packs but you can get a growler (64oz jug) to go :D

Any New Glarus (this is by far the best brewery in the US) try Stone Soup, you will never drink another beer the same way again after tasting this, can't beat a beer that has a hint of cloves

I'm jealous... I made my first and only trip to Founders last year around this time. Very cool place... huge bar... very new... and they will have great beers on tap. Check out the mug club there... would love to join if I lived in Grand Rapids.

Good luck with the CBS... It's going to be crazy to try and get the 750 ml bottles when they release them the first week of October. Still have a bunch of KBS left if you wanna meet up in the alpine parking lot hah..

Oh wait, everyone will be sure to hate me come morning as they are exploding in the nearest port-o-shit.

I lived on Point Special for 4 1/2 years while at school at UWSP.

Lovin all the beer talk, I too am a BA. I live about 30 minutes from FFF so i am well versed in their selection. Lots of great beer there. I will be bringing one or 2 bottles of 2011 dark lord, a bottle of Rouge 21 and a few other select brews. Gonna try and bring a mango IPA we homebrewed a few months ago, maybe an oatmeal stout (have to check the stock) My brother and I will be camping in scenic ridge if anyone wants gather round and swap or enjoy some craft brews.

Lots of good beer talk going on, glad i resurrected this thread for sure!

Now, if I can just get someone from MN to bring a care package of Surly Furious to PJ20...need a resupply of that.
