Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues

Searched for a thread about this record, and was surprised to find that one didn't exist.

This album is out today, although it's leaked and has been streaming for a while. I love it, and it's by far my favorite record of the year so far.

I love their debut as well, but I think this one far eclipses it. It sounds like a modern folk classic to my ears.

Too many highlights to mention.

    My second favorite album of the year so far. Only behind Panda Bear's Tomboy. Blue Spotted Tail is a phenomenal song.

    Still have to give Tomboy a listen but I agree about "Blue Spotted Tail". Great lyrics.

    My favorite is likely either "Helplessness Blues" or "Sim Sala Bim".

    "Grown Ocean," "Bedouin Dress," and "The Plains/Bitter Dancer" are up there as well.

    It's hard to decide, there aren't any weak songs on here. I could see some labeling "The Cascades" as filler but it's a very pretty transitional instrumental.

    I've only heard the title track so far, but I love it. Fleet Foxes just create such beautiful music, so looking forward to listening to the whole record! I'd LOVE to see them live but the shows I was interested in going to are sold out :( Oh well, next time!

    I'll be picking up the record later this week but I downloaded the leak a while ago. At first it didn't really capture me like their first one did but after a few listens I was totally in love with it.

    I see your location is New York. If you are interested in attending the United Palace shows- I have never had trouble getting a ticket to a show outside the venue the night of the show for face or less.

    Same here. I am always worried that a band that takes a while working on their second record will release something that feels forced, but they used the time to create a great follow up to their debut.

    This one isn't as immediately accessible as their debut, but with a bit of patience comes a fantastic listening experience. I applaud them for moving out of their comfort zone and experimenting a bit more.

    I like this. When i first heard it i liked it some but over time its grown on me even more. Lots of good songs here.

    just echoing all these thoughts - i've spun it twice so far and i love it. when i got their first record and ep, i played them every day for like a month and completely fell in love. i think that's happening again. so rare.

    I love the harmonies and instrumental arrangements but have to say Im not a huge fan of the vocals. Ill listen again and pick up their first album as well. Hopefully Ill adjust haha

    Make sure you get Sun Giant as well. Seems like those 2 are just one big album. But I am, unfortunately, late to the Fleet Foxes party, so correct me if I'm wrong.

    i think sun giant was released a littler earlier than the S/T, but if you buy the vinyl, they're packaged together - i would definitely call them of a piece. in general, for me, the songs on S/T are better than the songs on sun giant (mykonos the obvious exception).

    Upon hearing this, I promptly ordered this vinyl. I agree with your assessment, although I enjoy all the songs on Sun Giant. I would still say Mykonos may be my favorite song by them, for now, maybe.
