Cropping is not something I would really consider photoshopping.. I mean, it is a function of a photo editor, but not something that alters the original photograph except to take the part of it that you want focus on and bring it to the right position for viewing. The color adjustments would be somewhat questionable, but then if you shoot in the raw, you would apply all these adjustments later as a photographer. I dunno. It would be nice for them to answer this question. It's definitely an important one and time to enter is ticking away.
Peace
I would bet that 99% of all the professional photographs you see in present times have been digitally altered in one way or another. The adjustments I made were very minor and I think unnoticeable.
And the rules from the site (I see nothing about digital enhancing your images): http://blip.fm/pearljam
REQUIREMENTS OF ENTRIES:
Entry may not contain, as determined by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion, any content that:
* is sexually explicit; unnecessarily violent or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group; profane or pornographic; contains nudity;
* is obscene or offensive; endorses any form of hate or hate group; appears to duplicate any other submitted Entries;
* defames, misrepresents or contains disparaging remarks about other people or companies;
* contains trademarks, logos, or trade dress (such as distinctive packaging or building exteriors/interiors) owned by others, without permission; contains any personal identification, such as license plate numbers, personal names, e-mail addresses or street addresses;
* contains copyrighted materials owned by others (including photographs, sculptures, paintings, and other works of art or images published on or in websites, television, movies or other media) (except Pearl Jam), without permission;
* contains materials embodying the names, likenesses, voices, or other indicia identifying any person, including, without limitation, celebrities and/or other public or private figures, living or dead, without permission (except Pearl Jam);
* contains look-alikes of celebrities or other public or private figures, living or dead;
* violates any law.
Entry must be the original work of the entrant, may not have been previously published, may not have won previous awards, and must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity (except Pearl Jam). If the Entry contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant, and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, the entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the Entry, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the use and exhibition of the Entry by Sponsor in the manner set forth in these Official Rules, including, without limitation, name and likeness permissions from any person who appears in or is identifiable in the Entry. Sponsor reserves the right to request proof of these permissions in a form acceptable to Sponsor from any entrant at any time. Failure to provide such proof may, if requested, render Entry null and void. By submitting an Entry, entrant warrants and represents that he/she and any persons appearing or who are identifiable in the Entry consent to the submission and use of the Entry in the Contest and to its use as otherwise set forth herein.

Fully agreed there. It does not appear as though there is any rule against photoshopping your images.
I was just trying to post a couple pics and every time i paste the link to the picture it gets combined with "@PJpromo" and then the link doesn't work. Anyone know how to avoid this? I tried adding a couple spaces in between and it still did the same thing.
Thanks,

try hitting 'enter'....paste your links on the next line, not right next to the @.
Personally, I would hope Photoshopping wasn't allowed, except for maybe bordering your pics os something.. but to apply filters and effects or doing touching ups, or editing things out or in is not photography, but merely photo editing. In my opinion, this would defeat the principle of the contest.
Peace
I would argue that photo editing has become a part of photography in the digital age. There is definitely a line, though...
Maybe anything goes as long as you control the rights to the content of the "photo"...
either way this contest rules and I"m having fun, so there you go.

I don't think it matters if it is notated as an edited photo and not claimed as untouched.
It's good you are having fun, I hope that's what this was meant to be, and I hope I wasn't coming across as a scrooge.. I was simply wondering if PS'ing would void an entry for anyone who might use it. It would take a bit of the fun away if messing with the gamma on a photo or editing tedious details in or out for hours resulted in a voided entry for anyone.

I agree! anyone can touch up or make a photo look better with a program!
I knew all the rules, but the rules did not know me...GUARANTEED!
This stinks that no canadians can enter.
I have some nice pics. Not too many but a few.
I think Lance is gonna be missing out on a few good shots from some of us.
Cant wait to see all the entries!
I agree, I am missing out on alot of quality images but I dint make the rules, it some legal issues, and shipping...not too sure...I would love to still see whatever images you have..I think you can still post em..? Photography has no borders, lets all join hands and sing...
thanks

i see multiple entries from the same person but it doesnt say anywhere how many times u can enter? Also, does anyone know if slight photoshopping is frowned upon??
analog vs. digital always brings out the opinions, I am old school and still shoot film but I do use Photoshop, always. These days its a tool that I cant live without, so I embrace it..Im not scared. Im open to anybody using PS to 'enhance' the photo as long as they feel it adds to the image, I will judge based on what I think works, if it distracts from the image then you could be "marked" down...up to you...
on a side note I do have to say that Ive seen a ton of live stuff and most of it looks killer but feel free to submit images that are not live..heres a bit of the rules:
"Now if you don't have a live shot of the band, no worries. Any Pearl Jam related photo is eligible. It could be almost anything: a pic of Pearl Jam's tour bus, a shot of you playing air guitar to “Even Flow”, or even a photo of your dog sleeping next to a copy of "Vitalogy". Just remember kids; creativity counts, nudity doesn't."
so lets see a variety..and keep submitting, the numbers are low and I get bored easily..challenge me..bring it on!
thanks, you guys are doing great..

I want people to just be able to click on the link and get the pictures, my quote is smooshed on at the end...thanks for your help.
After I logged in, I was in my homepage.
I 'searched' for Pearl Jam, (what are you listening to?)
chose a tune by clicking 'blip'.
in the message box, I physically typed @PJpromo (no need to put in your username as it will fill out automatically for you once you enter and post)
return for the next line,
add a description or title if you want,
return for the next line,
paste in the direct link to your photograph.
I have a photobucket, so I chose 'direct link' so the entire album wouldn't come up or a scaled down version of the photo.
Hitting return and creating 3 lines in the message box actually created 2 lines after it was sent.
I think there is a fakey line that doesn't register or something if you only create 2 lines when making your initial post.
I would suggest, if you don't want to title or date the image, double space before you paste in your direct link. This way, the image link won't attach itself to the end of the @PJpromo
Does that make any friggen' sense at all?
I am on an iMac, some folks mentioned they thought it might be a non-Apple issue but I hope that is a good path for any pc folks.
Loving this contest and checking out everyone's entries daily. I put up a few last evening!

After the gig, it all seemed so surreal! Would've chosen 'Ghost' for this one.

'Sweet Lew' or possibly 'In the Moonlight' for this one I reckon.

The way Mike's looking at Ed - has to be 'Brother'.
If anyone Stateside fancies entering them on my behalf....
Lance and everyone, I'd be extremely grateful if you could let me know what you think. Unfortunatley there's a lot of noise on the live pictures.
Ok, going to add one more (forgive the red eye - would have sorted it out if I was going to enter it!);
