If you don't like my take on the matter no need to resort to being a smart ass.

I'm not being a smart ass man. Sure, it comes across like that but I'm serious dude. Your take on the matter gives this kid no chance that's what I don't like. The kid is not at fault here. The abuser of that kid is. To think differently & to say it's the kid & his lawyers using mental illness as an excuse is backwards.

You obviously have never worked in the criminal justice system before. To say that the kid is totally without blame is ludicrous. I'm also sick of people passing the buck and not taking responsibility for their own actions. As if everyone who was mistreated as a child can commit murder and be completely absolved of ANY culpability whatsoever! That's simply insane. We are each solely responsible for our own actions. There are plenty of people who were abused as children who don't commit these types of crimes. When it comes right down to it, it was that kid's CHOICE to commit murder. And he should absolutely be held accountable.

I deleted the posts because it became clear to me that they were no longer relevant.

That's hilarious!! We would get along come to think of it.
    A thought finally arrived, eh ? :D

I don't play with words. It is a responsibility to question everything and not just decide based on emotions.
i.e. If that was my 4 yr old, I would kill the 14 yr old.

We have a responsibility in these scenarios so the cycle of abuse is minimized. Nuking the kid doesn't do that.

You don't get anywhere solely feeding off emotion, in my opinion. It only leads to temporary.

I said the kid is not at fault. Blame & fault are two different things. Blame would assign responsibility to his fault. It's not his fault.
Actually, I am with those who suffer from mental illness. I see my fair share of those abused who commit crimes and those who are abused and don't commit crimes.
Yes, some who have been abused know that they have been abused and that it has f#cked them up and put them in a position to further the abuse. If they know right from wrong and have not taken the recommended treatment etc., then you have a point. And again, it still isn't as easy as that.

Eye for an Eye isnt a solution to a crime...everyone ,even the worst criminal must have the right to defent himself, its called Democracy,Justice
i think this is a more general issue..society and families need to work more hard for not let 14years old boys become murderers

Hey D, after my sister who I love and adore was the victim of a serious crime, and was within an inch of losing her life at the hands of some mongrel... I would happily beat the bloke who did it to my sister... He fucked her life, messed with my life and my whole family. And the guy has never been caught.. No justice for my sister... This happened 14 years ago this year... He is never going to get done for this.

I have no dramas with eye for an eye here... no problem at all...

im pretty sure that is so hard..and i dont know how ill react if happens to my sister..i would be crazy,
and for sure the one did it must pay...the only thing im saying is when u are a person, that respect others life, you should think clear, and the whole community, society must do the same..you cant be like the criminal, like the murderer, like animal..we are different than them,we must support justice system, fair trial, cos we are different than criminal..in some countries someone stole a wallet and the justice cut his arm..no court,no justice,,cut the arm..
communities must be calm..cant react like criminals..eye for eye is wrong,,and lets say someone did a mistake, and steal you 50 $..the answer isnt to cut his arm.he must do jail time for pay for the mistake and protect community from him...if thye find the one did this bad think to your sister, revenge isnt the answer..to pay for his crime ,with jail time is the right one...

The thing is this prick stole more than $50... He nearly took her life... She was 19... and he picks on someone who was so defenseless. She was a mess for years... AS a result, I am so protective of all my sisters... I just want justice for her (nowadays, she has moved on somewhat. 2 degrees, married with two gorgeous boys) I wouldn't want her to go through anything. But when my sister was nearly murdered and this guy walks away from the scene of the crime and moves on with his life. WHile my sister walked though a dark place for so long.... Makes me mad, makes me sad.... Makes me want to deliver my own form of justice...

I see it too often on the news, someone gets killed or seriously hurt by thugs for just a mobile phone, ipod, or $20. They are picking on the elderly now more than ever.

If the victim does not have the right to a fair trial before being assaulted, raped, or murdered then the perpetrator shouldn't either.

i never made a comment to you personaly,or being ironic to your comments.i post my opinion and comment on opinions..
if you think that insolting and being smart with personal comments , will proove that you are right..then good for you..
still, revenge isnt solution..at 1500 was ok,,they burn the witches as well..now we are at 2011..we must try to solve problems that society has,not create more..the ones there are not murderers must not act like Barbarians..

i try to think clear..people made laws must do the same..not act with emotion,,that why judges do that job and not relatives of the victim...
if happens to me i dont know what im gonna do..cos ill act with feelings and not with brain
in the end what ever penalty merderer will have, shoot him ,put him in the chair,or sent him in jail ,NOTHING will bring the victim back..or make the pain of the parents go away

It appears that some people need to know how the courts work.
The Prosecutor brings forth the charges against the defendant based upon evidence he can prove in an open court. The charges will determine the punishment.
The Defendant hires a lawyer to argue against the Prosecutor's arguements. The Defense Attorney comes up with a plan to plant a reasonable doubt in the minds of one jury member to derail the Prosecution's Case.
    ...
The Defense Lawyer is the one who came up with the 'Mental illness' Defense Strategy. That's what defense attorneys do... make up excuses to cause one juror to reasonably doubt the Prosecution's Case.
    ...
Didn't we go over this stuff in High School?

There would be so much emotion and mourning for this little one and the way he died was just awful. I could not begin to imagine what pain they must be feeling and how angry they would be. However, I do have alot of mental illness in my family and it has taken a long time for me to understand them. They have done awful things to both my husband and I and if you asked them about it now, they either don't remember or can't understand why you are even angry with them still.
Agreed, some people do try to manipulate the system and try to excuse themselves by saying they have a mental problem but some genuinley do have problems. Believe me, I do not excuse the acts of this teen, he should definately go to a mental facility for possibly the rest of his life but if you killed him, putting him to death would achieve nothing. These people don't think like the rest of us, especially if he learnt at a young age that violence was okay and to put your hands on someone else was normal. I do see why this family would want him dead though, I get that because quite frankly I would probably want the same, I'm just trying to look at the bigger picture.
I just find it very sad.

Yeah, it's hard to differentiate between their illness and their personalities. Took me a long time to realise, there is really nothing you can do to make that person understand the ramifications of their actions. I don't think what he did should be ignored but I agree with you, don't know that killing him is the answer. Mind you, I understand the boy's family wanting vengence. It's a very fragile situation isn't it? Maybe no easy answers?

Its so hard to find solutions for aggresive people and the way they act and do....
But killing is always wrong...And a teen who starts with that is just so sad...
