Much obliged to you for posting most definitely and for pointing out the VLC players, but the above statement I still don't understand.
Again, never intended to be a dick....just wanted to understand but I guess I will never wrap my mind around "the powers that be" dictating that there shalt not be independent, coexistent files of the same song....i'm guessing that's commandment number one in the FLAC Master's top 10
Carry on. I'll go away.
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
I finally got it....woohoo what an incredible find holyshit......... BUT its def demo version Ed, seems to mumble the second part and the energy isn't there. I am still blown away by this what a darn tootin treat.
Still..."please don't spread mp3s of this" sounds a hell of a lot like saying "screw 'em if they want to hear it and they don't use FLAC...this is only for the cool kids"
Maybe I'm missing something but just as I saw it was a FLAC flle, I'm assuming anyone seeking FLAC would be able to notice they are about to download a supposedly shitty mp3 file
Oh well....now off to find the mp3 that some dunderhead has certainly already done....you gots to love the outcasts
Its very easy to convert flac to mp3...just use google..that's what I did when I first downloading flac files. Or as others have said just google vlc player and download that.

Just a guess but Sony did a major solo release of Daughter as a single. Wondering if these may be one of the old demos from it. They also had promo Les Paul style guitars they gave away with a Daughter promo card signed by the entire band on them. Still have mine.

Naw...this recording is from 2000, I guarantee it. The drum sound/style is nothing like Dave A. - not to sound arrogant, but there's little nuances in both of their playing that are fairly easy to discern by an experienced drummer's ear. The snare drum tone is no way a deeper Brady wood snare that Dave A. was playing at the time. It's definitely one of Matt's steel shell Keplinger snares.

Still..."please don't spread mp3s of this" sounds a hell of a lot like saying "screw 'em if they want to hear it and they don't use FLAC...this is only for the cool kids"
are you being obtuse on purpose here? you're attributing a way more negative attitude to the person making the request than was intended.
like someone else said, the request is made so that people who go looking for the song can find the best quality file of it first, to then do whatever the hell they want with (including making an mp3!), with the only condition being they don't share it online, thereby keeping the likelihood of the original source file being discovered by the searcher much greater. no one would want to hear a thrice transcoded 128kbps mp3, and if someone goes searching for a song, you'd hope they'd be able to find a top quality file first and not the type of file i just described.
it's that simple, man, and not the elitist snobbery you're desperately trying to pin on the person who was kind enough to share it in the first place. they're just trying to ensure that when someone finds it, they're able to get the closest thing to the original as possible. oh, the horror.
granted, and as we've already seen in this thread, a lot of people don't care about requests and are going to do it anyway because, hey, you can't tell me what to do.
Still..."please don't spread mp3s of this" sounds a hell of a lot like saying "screw 'em if they want to hear it and they don't use FLAC...this is only for the cool kids"
Simply solved by looking at the file tag is my point. One guy wants mp3 and another wants flac. There is no justification for the powers that be saying there shall be no mp3.
Shouldn't have came back. Beer and unplugged right now so why should I care? Sorry again for being dumb. Not really though.

Flac is like safe sex while mp3 is like unprotected sex. For example, using Flac, you can have sex/plays hundreds & hundreds of times and the protection/quality would be sweet for a long time. The right way to go. But on the other hand, doing it mp3 style, unprotected sex, after a few hits/transfers to friends, the diseases/quality goes bad. Something to that nature. :P
The point is you want the best quality. The way it was originally made. Taking a product and converting it to the lowest quality and sharing that 2nd grade product to others, really sucks.
So, listening to a FLAC is like eating a popsicle with a sock on your tongue?
Its going to get out and get around whether or not "we" share. Its AWESOME..yes..but I don't think its so awfully great...tech-soundwise that it's going to be a problem. its' certainly not competing with many of the other recordings out there....and anyone other than us diehards probably isn't going to care at all....WE being who we are...LOVE IT! But, I doubt there's any threat to PJ's income stream from folks not paying for this. If there was...this thread would have been down long ago. The fact that its still here speaks volumes to that.
All that aside..i think its awesome!
peace,

see, again, you're missing the point. that, or you're forcing the context of what has been said to meet what you percieve to be an injustice. either way, your approach is way off base. no one has said "there shall be no mp3" that i am aware of. they just asked that, if you do make one, you don't share them.
there certainly is justification for that request, like what i spelled out in my post and that others have also said- it helps to ensure that the people looking for this track have the best chance of finding the highest quality version of the file (even if the recording itself is not "studio quality"). you folks who are using the "it's already a low quality sounding file so it doesn't matter" argument are actually arguing against your own position. think about it. really, really think about it. maybe it will dawn on you.
It's all good. But for the record...I never said anything about it being poor quality studio recording.
I'm guessing the point is don't put an mp3 file on the web but if my buddy down the street wanted the mp3, go ahead and hook him up.
Cheers

The loss in audio quiality is of no factor in this case.
But if the source wants it to be in flac - that is another discussion.
Anf honestly - how hard is it really to play it? haha. (vlc or whatever)
