I've never understood the FLAC snobbery
Why should FLAC people decide how I listen to my music?
they're not telling you how to listen to your music, they're asking you to SHARE it in the best quality possible. you're free to record it onto a cassette and listen to it 1000 times on a radioshack walkman with external speakers if you want. just dont spread it around so when people are looking for it, they get it in the original quality.Found: Soundgarden Hyde Park DVD (Thank you for the gift!)

Still..."please don't spread mp3s of this" sounds a hell of a lot like saying "screw 'em if they want to hear it and they don't use FLAC...this is only for the cool kids"
Maybe I'm missing something but just as I saw it was a FLAC flle, I'm assuming anyone seeking FLAC would be able to notice they are about to download a supposedly shitty mp3 file
Oh well....now off to find the mp3 that some dunderhead has certainly already done....you gots to love the outcastsAll I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

it's all in how someone reads it. i saw it as nothing but a simple request. do i prefer mp3 over flac, well when it comes to archiving, yes. if it's the only source available i will take it, but when a higher quality version--like flac--is out there, i will go for that.
unfortunately, some people who encode mp3s to this day still have no idea what they're doing. there are people who like to save time/don't care about audio quality, and still assume 128kbps mp3s are acceptable for the encoded songs.
we are lucky we have tapers who share their shows in flac, especially a lot of the '95/'96 shows that sound terrible. now imagine taking them from flac and degrading them to 128kbps or 192kbps mp3s. i am sure they would sound a lot worse than they already sound in format presented. :geek:i have witnessed some performances. i have soaked up a lot of memories.0 -

Seriously guys, it takes about 30 seconds of effort to convert a song to MP3 (FOR YOUR OWN USE ONLY) if you're that crazy for crappy sounding files. If someone has the good courtesy to share these tracks in FLAC at least do as they've aksed and don't share MP3s around.
If you're a fan of music I can't fathom why you'd bother with MP3s in this day and age anyway...0 -

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything like that...not at all...not even wanting to argue actually...but i still don't get it.Spencer wrote:Seriously guys, it takes about 30 seconds of effort to convert a song to MP3 (FOR YOUR OWN USE ONLY) if you're that crazy for crappy sounding files. So, say for instance, I create my own mp3 of the song and I know 10 people who would also love to have an mp3 of that song, perhaps those people are even huge music fans despite their non-use of FLAC.
The way I am reading the FLAC lovers' comments is this....if you have an mp3 you cannot and must not pass it along to a fellow music fan because the sanctity of the almighty FLAC will somehow be diminished even though the FLAC file and the mp3 file exist totally independent of the other.
I just don't see where there is an issue when some people want FLAC and other people want mp3....if everybody can get what they want I just don't see the fuss.
But, whatever. It doesn't much matter at the end of the day. I'll leave the FLAC to all the real music fans and slop around with my shitty mp3s.All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

I posted this. I'm an mp3 guy. The powers that be would like it flac only.
Also it takes one minute and like 2 megabytes to download VLC player which plays pretty much any file known to man.0 -
Flac is like safe sex while mp3 is like unprotected sex. For example, using Flac, you can have sex/plays hundreds & hundreds of times and the protection/quality would be sweet for a long time. The right way to go. But on the other hand, doing it mp3 style, unprotected sex, after a few hits/transfers to friends, the diseases/quality goes bad. Something to that nature. :P
The point is you want the best quality. The way it was originally made. Taking a product and converting it to the lowest quality and sharing that 2nd grade product to others, really sucks.0 -
Much obliged to you for posting most definitely and for pointing out the VLC players, but the above statement I still don't understand.gndcd402 wrote:The powers that be would like it flac only.
Again, never intended to be a dick....just wanted to understand but I guess I will never wrap my mind around "the powers that be" dictating that there shalt not be independent, coexistent files of the same song....i'm guessing that's commandment number one in the FLAC Master's top 10
Carry on. I'll go away. :wave:All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

If you don't have space issues, just use Winamp to play flac files. I love Winamp, its what i use all the time.
