Hi All,

So, with the PJ20 announcement right around the corner and the leading candidate being Alpine Valley, has anyone called/e-mailed to secure a room for that weekend? I just e-mailed and am hoping to hear back today. I asked if there was a golfing package available for that weekend as well. I’ve read that if there is a large act playing there, that the golf course would not be open, as certain areas are used for parking. Can anyone confirm this? What was the setup like in 2000 and 2003?

Yeah I called about 2 months ago and they said they were already booked for Labor Day Weekend. So being nosey I asked and they said it was full due to a rumor that Pearl Jam might be having a big show that weekend.. SO I booked at the Country Inn and Suites like 3 miles away.

  • Thanks... I may try and book the country inn and suites as well. There is camping available at Alpine Valley though, right? Only 400 people if i'm correct...

Maybe Alpine Valley isn't such a great idea for PJ20...

There's nothing wrong with Alpine Valley. Other than there being nothing else to do. Which actually leads me to save money. hahahahahhahaha

Well, I kind of hope it is at Alpine, since I live in Mil-town and it would only be a 40 minute drive, but I am also kind of hoping it is in Chicago. Is there any chance PJ throws a curveball and has this fest at Soldier Field? It would just be way more convenient for everybody with hotels, travel, location, etc.

Also, from the looks of it from the 04/08/11 Walworth County Today, Alpine will allow camping this year w/75 sites limited to 6 persons a site and two cars. That just won't be enough IMO.

Which hotel is it? I've been holding off booking anything until the official announcement. I don't want to get stuck with any type of cancelation fee.

I am just going to hold out for the official word, I don't mind driving an hour or so back to a cheaper hotel if it means seeing the boys at PJ20!!!

I can't believe that Alpine Valley is even in the mix, I thought for sure it would be too far for me to even consider!!!

I am sure the Wisconsin people can help with some ideas (better than an suburban Chicagoan can) but if you are willing to drive about 30 miles I would consider looking into the Pleasant Prairie/Kenosha area of Wisconsin. Pleasant Prairie has a big outdoor outlet mall. These hotels may be cheaper than the Alpine Valley area which has Lake Geneva nearby which will be a big last weekend of summer destination without PJ20.

From what I've heard if you are coming from out of town rent a car. I wouldn't count on public transportation being very useful out there in the sticks.

This is off topic, but its on the PJ20 topic, and I don't want to clutter the forums up so I will just ask/discuss it here. I've been thinking about this for a couple months now, ever since the Alpine rumors have surfaced. Why would a band as popular as Pearl Jam, have their Festival at an Amp?? Would it not be more conducive to the fans to have it somewhere bigger? There are going to be a lot of people left out in the cold if its in the actual amphitheater.

Maybe I've missed something and it will be somewhere else just in the same park as the Amp :? . The logistics of it would be tough as well. If its three days, all at the amp., are they going to do 3 day passes? Or will they sell each day separately? Another issue is tickets. Scalpers stay away from festivals, or at least its seemed that way in the past. Most fest's have so many tickets and such big capacities that its not worth buying 1k tickets for a 75k show. If the shows are in the amp will the scalpers not do the exact same thing as they did the past couple weeks with EV shows?

Sorry for the rambling, its just been on my mind for a while thinking of how illogical it is to have this at Alpine. And all of it stems from things outside of the location :mrgreen:

I live in Madison and have been to many concerts at Alpine over the years. For outsiders... rent a car... unless you plan on getting drunk and high all day in the parking lot. Janesville, Waukesha, and a few other smaller communities are under 30 miles away from the grounds. Ive been to the Gorge to see the band and know you have to drive a long time to get anywhere... so kind of the same issue when it comes to nothing close to do during the day. Milwaukee is a fun city! And its under an hour away. Madison is about an hour or so away give or take traffic and is a great city to visit. Watch out for undercover cops in the parking lot!!!!! I cannot stress this enough!!!! they try to blend in as concert goers and get you right when you're about to take a hit of something or happen to crank something off your VS cd. Watch out!

by the way... Alpine is going to be a blast!
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

There is no need to have it somewhere bigger, plus PJ hate doing GA shows.

I second the concern about cops. Watch out for speeding to and from the venue. Wisconsin cops especially like out of state plates.

There is no need to have it somewhere bigger, plus PJ hate doing GA shows.

This I did not know, but as for the no need to have it somewhere bigger, can you explain? Honestly I'm not trying to be condescending, I'm actually curious, a band that's this popular around the world not needing a bigger venue for such a big event. Thanks

I second the concern about cops. Watch out for speeding to and from the venue. Wisconsin cops especially like out of state plates.

The last time i went there I got caught in a speed trap at the bottom of a hill, got a 225 dollar ticket, that eventually the state sent me 135 of it back  ....

From what I've heard if you are coming from out of town rent a car. I wouldn't count on public transportation being very useful out there in the sticks.

I'm flying in from Halifax. I'm routing for some public transportation for this weekend jam if it's happening @ Alpine Valley. For something this hyped up & so much demand & excitement for the PJ20 celebration, why are they rumored to do this in the middle of nowhere's if there's no public transportation & the closest hotel/motel is 30+ minutes away from where Pearl Jam will be playing? Plus doing this on the busiest day's of the year, labour day long weekend, those roads better be safe & secure to & from that theater.

40,000 is plenty big for this event. I would highly doubt anyone will have any problem getting a lawn seat if they don't secure 10 Club seats. i think having it at Alpine is one way to lower interest. Who the heck wants to spend Labor Day in the middle of nowhere. Thats right, only die hard PJ fans. The rumor of other shows following this one will also have people skipping on spending a lot more money on this weekend.

agree. but, I think other shows aren't a rumor. I just heard a broadcast with Mike saying there is a tour end of year.
