It just makes sense. (Which is why it will probably never happen in this country.)
I cannot tell you how many times I think this in a day
The question is, how can we change that?

Only problem is one of those countries would still have the majority of the wealth, which in the grand scheme of things is one of, if not the biggest problem and doesn't fix anything.

You are right dps79. Dividing it up probably won't change much. So maybe we should be asking how do we make government officials regain their moral responsibility to the people they represent?

Minimum wage for politicians
that's where the problem lies...the boards that determine what they get paid are picked by those politicians...completely fixed system...frustrating to say the least :-x
Personally I feel like the thing that divides us politically is social issues. I think we all realize that fiscal responsibility is necessary, but some want the government to control abortion, some want the government to pay for healthcare, some want the government involved in every day lives of families, some want the government to basically be neither seen or heard...all of these things could be solved by splitting into different countries...because apparently 50 states isn't good enough. I don't understand why the federal government has taken police powers on when they are supposed to be reserved for the states...if we had legitimate states with legitimate state governments, I don't think what the feds do would matter that much to people because they would be limited to what the constitution gives them the power to do.
so back to my original point, separate into 4 countries...Far leftistan(obvious), Crazytown(religious conservatives), the United states of Common Sense(center) and Free-to-do-whatever-the-hell-you-want-as-long-as-you-don't-harm-a-neighbor-istan (Awesomeland for short ). I would choose the latter, but I think we could all find a country to live, then we would actually see what would happen if those people had total control...personally I think we would all want to reunite and work together finally, but it would take a drastic thing like this to make people realize what we have in this country and try to workout their ideological differences.
wishful thinking maybe, but who knows, it is my fantasy and it can play out anyway I want!!!

For me i don't see how Awesomeland is possible and i don't know if it is a good idea. What about a country or a world where we look out for others and stop being so petty. in another tread about social housing some guy was complaining that his neighbor doesn't cut the grass and someone asked why don't you help them cut it and the 1st guy says why should i help them. its just so petty. what about doing something for others just for the hell of it.

I think the best way to change it would be to educate the electorate & inspire them give a shit & to vote. What's that saying? The world is run by the people who show up. We should also require that policy be rooted in factual information - kind of like evidence-based medicine, but with politics. If we don't want our doctors making decisions that are not based in fact, why would we want our politicians to? Third, we should require that policy decisions follow the rules of logic. All politicians should be true critical thinkers. Everyone should be, but especially the people making the world's most important decisions. Additionally, we should take back the power of the people from the corporations that are holding it hostage.
