listening to it i cant even pick out the difference anyway! even if there was a slight increase in snare drum sound who cares???? i thinks its a total waste of money. given too that eddie doesn't even listen to the remastered albums before they come out (from interview in germany '09) its pretty obvious its not even from the band but some guy with a machine thinking "how can i sell these songs all over again?"

please don't re release every album PJ.

love luke

I couldn't agree more. I bought the Ten remastered and have listened to it side by side with the original countless times and can't find anything slightly different. However, like a fool I got a wine buzz going one night and snapped at the opportunity to snatch up copies of VS, Vitalogy and the Orpheum 94 on Vinyl and went all out and bougt the Super Deluxe version... Its more about the vinyl for me than anything since PJ vinyl tends to become super rare and expensive.

Yeah, I don't get it. It seems to be more for the band than the fans.

I think (as a fan) each release is worth hearing, no matter how subtle the differences. Plus the reissues are worth having for any bonus material that's included. I pre-ordered the "Ten" redux and it was totally worth it. It was like hearing it again for the first time! The band even said "Ten" (remastered) finally sounds the way it was supposed to! It's not for everyone, only real fans will appreciate the nuances of each re-release!

  • I love the remasters/redux/remixes - whatever you want to call it

The Ten Redux/Remix (still don't know what to call it)
    sounded GREAT

Sounded a lot different to the original Ten, both are amazing

For me as someone who just recently started to buy vinyls it's pretty sweet that they come out because they are at least more affordable than the older releases. I have some vinyls, but only one PJ studio record (ten) because the prices are insane at times. I cannot really tell whether the re-issues sound better or worse, I'm just happy for any PJ vinyl I can get my hands on for a good price and in a good quality :) And what I read about the sound of the re-issues sounds great ...

  • Dude, buy some fucking Q-tips! Ten Remastered was awesome and I could definitely tell the subtle differences in sound quality. And also the remasters give people a chance to buy the vinyl without paying some greedy douche on eBay $200+ For it! So I say, remaster away! It's all good!! Dont like it? Don't buy it! Straight up!!

    not if they just hike the volume. that's not a re-master, that's a re-volume.
ten redux is the best re-master album i've bought. the difference between ten and redux is BIG.
i can not wait until they re-master avocado.

now, for sentimental reasons original Ten will never be topped.

    try listening with headphones.
i'm not a sound junkie but the difference with Ten is big.

  • After a band records they will notice subtle things they wish they did different... like a snare being louder, a pick slide here and there, doubling a vocal, etc. To most people it doesn't sound any different, including me (even though I haven't heard the remaster.

To me, buying this box set was just to continue to stockpile Pearl Jam collectibles in my attic. I'm sure to them it sounds "different" here and there with their "fixes". It also pads their pockets. It's a win win for them and a lose lose for consumers.

Havent heard the Vs/Vitalogy releases yet, but if you cant hear the difference in the Ten re-releases, then I dont know what to tell you. Maybe you should buy some better audio equipment.

I think some are confusing things here.

Ten was re-released as a remaster and remix. Remember? 2 cds/lps. Difference is huge between these two.

VS Vitalogy is only being released as Remasters. There was no remixing. This means the sound will be almost the same as with the original issues. Only improved. My only worries is that they made it sound louder, wich would be a sad thing. This will mean nothing if you will only listen to these in your car.

And God bless them for re releasing these! We finaly have a chance of having Pearl Jam vinyls at a great price!

You guys make some great points. I'm sold. Allthough i'm not quite sure a slight change in snare drum is gonna make much difference to a non-musician like myself.

The difference between the original mix and the Brendan O'Brien redux mix is quite difference. But as for the Ten disc that was simply remastered, you can't tell me it sounds that different/better than the original purple CD case version.

i agree 100% with the the equipment part...

with the original press ten cd id have to crank the bass...with the redux not an issue at all.

on another note i recently bought nin's pretty hate machine and downward spiral remasters and wow what a huge difference those ones are...

Ten wasn't just a remaster like VS/Vitalogy are though. Ten was also a remix, which is why there is such an original difference between Ten Original and Ten redux.

Ten (because of the remix) is the only one of these I think I'm going to buy. I don't need to buy the same album twice IMO.
