God works is mysterious ways....Mass death, disease, naughty priests and popes covering them up just to name a few. I think the God in the bible has a low self esteem problem.
Also, how did the bible get to be the word of God and not have mans spin and additional things added to it throughout the years? I mean now-a-days with mass communication like Internet, phones, e-mail & texting people still get the facts or stories crossed up or incorrect. Back in those days everything was communicated by word of mouth so there had to be some twisting of the bible. So instead f the word of God you might get the word of "Jimmy the stone thrower."
Isaiah 54:10- Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Proverbs 3:23-26- Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.
Doesn't sound to me like the Creator has any self-esteem problems. In terms of the perversions carried out by Catholic priests:
1 Thessalonians 4:3: For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality.
Believe it or not, a hand full of abusive priests and the Westboro Baptist Church do not speak for Christianity. The Bible will point these offenders out for what they are.

GEN 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
Come on...really?? This is how cow's were formed and how they got their name?

Yes.
Well, I'm calling out a bullshit (pardon the pun) on the whole Adam naming all the animals. While we are on the subject of animals I am also calling a bullshit on the whole Ark thing as well. So what about dinosaurs?

I hope you'll reconsider your positions, my friend.
What if humans lives on earth are just an extremely short, inconsequential part of their existence? Does that put natural disasters in a different light?
The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
was adam a cro magnon man? a neanderthal? what about an australopithicus? how are the fossils of primitive man explained? adam could not have named all of those creatures whatever they are called today, it would have been a series of different grunts and clicks and stuff for each animal. he could not have done any of that, let alone understood a formal language if spoken to by eve or god or a snake when he would have had the brain the size of an apple...

quoting the bible doesn't make an argument for a deity's "kindness"
you'll hafto explain to me how thousands of people dying of aids is an act of God's grace and love...
it's as if i believed doctor suess was the holy creator and made everything in the universe out of green eggs and ham. i could give you a bunch of phrases written by doctor seuss, but that doesn't make my theory true. :?
Sorry, but I have no patience for people who applaud the deaths of hundreds of thousands as meaningful and benevolent acts of God...

Adam named all the animals as god sprung them up around him?
I would've had a hard time after the millionth animal. Probably start out easy....cat....dog......cow..........much much later.....Hippopotamus........Stop! don't we have enough yet.

Were dinosaurs on the Ark? Yes. God told Noah to put representatives of every kind of land animal on the Ark. (Some dinosaurs were semiaquatic and could have survived outside the Ark.) But why put adult dinosaurs on the Ark? Young dinosaurs would take up less room, eat less, and be easier to manage.

I've never much read the Bible...I have a hard time bonding with it.
Couldn't tell you even what is in it but I think some take from it a moral to a story kind of thing.
That out of the stories one can take a moral or example to live by.
I like that idea and when I drive past churches I love to read on their signs
what the sermons are coming up for that Sunday or thought for the day are.
The sermons and thoughts are good..you know, very very good.
You won't find stuff like that anywhere else in your everyday life.
The people go... meet up with many friends...they listen and reflect and try to be
or do better.
Kindness, civility, generosity, relating to current events in a loving way
and finding coping mechanisms, love, beautiful topics thoughts for us all.
I am glad there are churches and religions to bring people together.
We need that.... it is a positive thing.
I admire people who take the time for religion very much.
 oh my...
well i have read the bible. and all i ask is someone please explain Gods attitude toward Job to me.

.... yes, science can explain it, as we see it, but they may believe that God is behind the science of things as well.
True. God's will. But then back to square one as to why a benevolent god would do such things....
Man was never meant to fall into sin, as was the case at the Garden of Eden. When sin entered in, God's judgements entered in also.
Jesus Christ is proof of God's benevolent nature. He is loving, but He is fair.
" Man was never meant to fall into sin"...So you are saying that God was pretty useless and didn't know what he was doing when he created man? How many other things did God screw up?

any thoughts on this post?
before i get into my point i wanted to say how ridiculous that website was where is said noah had dinosaurs on the ark. man did not exist at the same time as dinosaurs, so anyone who says that we co-existed has no idea what they are talking about.
now back to my prior post. how do the religious faithful explain the cro mags and neanderthals and other prehistoric man fossils? did adam get created and then devolve into these early men? that can't have happened either because carbon dating says tha these fossils are hundreds of thousands to a million years old while the religions of the world say the world is only a few thousand years old? what about dinosaur fossils that are a couple of million years old?

I thought that was quite cute. How many little boys (and some little girls), would be thrilled if it were real!
Back to your 'proper' post - to answer your questions truthfully, one would have to discredit the whole bible. They can't do that with the word of god.

yeah noah had baby dinosaurs on the ark because they were smaller and took up less space, ate less, and were able to be taken care of easier. can you imagine noah on the ark with a baby brontosaurus that was the size of a metro bus? these people are joking right?
until someone can expain to me and debunk the fossil record, and all of anthropology, paleontology, and archaeology then i rest my case.

I wonder, does anyone on the boards think the world is only a few thousand years old? What is that based on? Bibles should come with calculators.
Also, you know, if Adam was in an all aware state of mind, and then he fell from what they say is grace, then it would make total sense that he would devolve. Another interesting point is around about the time, in mans evolution he started to cover up his private areas, a realization, "Oh shit, I'm naked"
Hence we are always trying to find the awakening, as our ego is what made us fall from said grace in the first place?
" Man was never meant to fall into sin"...So you are saying that God was pretty useless and didn't know what he was doing when he created man? How many other things did God screw up?
He created man with a free will.
So if god created man in his own image...
And if he created man with free will...
Then how is homosexuality a sin? If a man has free will, then he's free to choose whoever he wants to be his mate. And if he was also created in god's image, then wouldn't that be a tacit admission that god was okay with whomever the man chose as a mate? If there were certain people the man wasn't supposed to be with, then that would bypass the issue of free will and never enter in the equation in the first place because it wouldn't be part of "god's image." Right?
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.
we 'know' how big the ark was cause the bible tells us so and any person with the capacity for independent thought will know that with all the species on earth that there simply was not enough room on the ark for all the critters.
