...ordered a new car from the factory?

i'm in the market for a new car...well, suv actually. the one i want is rarely ever in stock. suckers are selling like hot cakes, as the kids say these days. they're just not being built fast enough to satisfy demand.

plus i want certain features and shit and don't want to settle for something that's not quite what i want. talked to a sales manager and he said people are test driving whatever is in stock and then just ordering their specific vehicle from the factory.

so has anyone does this? any advice? can you negotiate the price buying this way? how long does it take to get delivered? what kind of deposit did you put down? yada? yada? and, yada?

help a juggler out. many thanks in advance.

Utilize the American Express website's car buying feature. Go to their search function and type in "car buying" and a link will appear. It's not featured on their website. But, you will save a ton of money. Only time I ordered from the factory, I had to wait and wait and wait. :x

You mean building your own car online and ordering it right?

When I first read it I thought you meant picking the car up directly from the factory, which you can only do with cars like Ferraris, BMW's and Bugattis.

Thread title is a big tease.

I had all sorts of replies like, "Just once, but I was pretty drunk" and "I was experimenting" and "yes, but I was a juvenile so the records are sealed."

Regarding cars, I am a total sucker and I am completely taken advantage of every time.

no, but when i bought my truck, i was able to get exactly what i wanted. my dealer traded with a dealer down in columubus for it.

imo, if you have to order it from the factory, it's going to be tougher to get a good deal....let me check with a guy a know that works at a dealer.

That was the biggest draw back for me was the wait

It was a foreign car so maybe that had something to do with it

Maybe american cars would be quicker from the Factory ?

Yeah..it took almost 2 months to get it

I liked it because I didnt feel like I was settling or just taking what they had on the lot

We worked the price before the order was placed...not much movement with foreign cars but they did move on the price

...ordered a new car from the factory?

i'm in the market for a new car...well, suv actually. the one i want is rarely ever in stock. suckers are selling like hot cakes, as the kids say these days. they're just not being built fast enough to satisfy demand.

plus i want certain features and shit and don't want to settle for something that's not quite what i want. talked to a sales manager and he said people are test driving whatever is in stock and then just ordering their specific vehicle from the factory.

so has anyone does this? any advice? can you negotiate the price buying this way? how long does it take to get delivered? what kind of deposit did you put down? yada? yada? and, yada?

help a juggler out. many thanks in advance.

here is the info i got from the ford guy i know. he works at a ford dealer down in texas.

    1. There isn't going to be a ton of negotiating, because they're selling as fast as they hit the ground.
    2. Normally it takes 8-10 weeks to order something, but the Explorer is more than 50% behind right now.
    3. Down payment is up to the dealer, they'll most likely have to sign a promissory, but may not since it is a hot seller.

I never had to order a car from the manufacturer for myself but had to for clients in the past and it could take up to 3 months, depending on the car.

Sold cars for a year and I would never buy a new car. The depreciation when you drive that sucker off the lot just kills me. I like to buy cars or trucks that are a year or two old from private party sellers. Just my two cents...

financially i agree about used. however, i doubt i will ever buy used again. there is something special about driving a brand new car for the first time. i also drive cars until they die, so it's not so bad.

i don't drive cars until they die, but i agree with you. everyone keeps telling me to buy used for the reasons mentioned above. i just don't want someone's old car....

now about this service engine light...

take it to autozone. they will check the code and delete it.

    could be a cheap fix.

IMO, you will get hammered on trade in with a light on.

may want to also sell private party and make a few extra bucks on it.

yeah, i just want to get rid of it asap. private party would take a while.

auto zone might be a good idea. i know it's a transmission problem though.....

they can delete it, but depending on what the problem is, it could come right back on.

remember, always buy manual transmissions. the are so less troublesome over the life of the car.
