That music clearly stood out from the crap that everyone was making back then, but in light of the 90s and the like it doesn't hold up very well now.

Ridiculous...It stood out then and continues to stand out. I'll admit that GnR took it a little too far over the top with the UYI's, but they made some fantastic, timeless music all in all.

If that raunchy delay pattern and Axl's crazy noises came on the radio for the first time today, people would be picking their jaws off the floor the same way they did 25 years ago.

To me GnR was kinduva bridge from hair metal to the alternative boom. Not saying they were alternative in the least, but they just came to rock how they wanted to rock.

You know, My Michelle came on my iPod today, and listening to it, I said to myself "this song is pretty badass." Maybe I can back off my comments just a bit. I guess somebody with Axl's voice doesn't come along too often. I do still think they were kind of overrated though.

GNR in my opinion was the best pure "rock" band of the 80's

They are just good ole fun RNR like the Stones, ACDC, and other similar bands.

What they did they did well.

I like a lot of the smaller bands from that era better but i respect them for what they were.

Hard to find 10 for this decade. Most of the stuff I listened to in the 80's I don't really listen to any more. In no order except The Smiths at the top.

The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
    The Police – Synchronicity
Guns N’ Roses – Appetite for Destruction
    Van Halen – 1984
    The Cure – Disintegration
    R.E.M. – Document
    INXS – Kick
    The Clash – Combat Rock
    U2 – The Joshua Tree
Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A.

    Big Country
    The Crossing .....

    Come up screaming
    Come up screaming

I’ve never seen you look like this without a reason
    Another promise fallen through
    Another season passes by you

I never took the smile away from anybody’s face
And that’s a desperate way to look
For someone who is still a child

In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover’s voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive

I thought that pain and truth
    Were things that really mattered
    But you can’t stay here
With every single hope you had shattered

I’m not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
But I can live and breathe
And see the sun in wintertime

In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover’s voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive

In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover’s voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive

So take that look out of here it doesn’t fit you
    Because it’s happened
    Doesn’t mean you’ve been discarded
Pull up your head off the floor
    Come up screaming
Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted

I thought that pain and truth
    Were things that really mattered
    But you can’t stay here
With every single hope you had shattered

I’m not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
But I can live and breathe
And see the sun in wintertime

In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover’s voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive

In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover’s voice fires the mountainside
    Stay alive

In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover’s voice fires the mountainside
