    Why will Jeff, Mike and two others play for $12-$20 a ticket but Ed needs $78?
    Because people are willing to pay it.

    "Just because you can doesn't mean you should"
    Jeff Goldblum - Jurassic Park

    I don't doubt he is a very nice dude, and it's nice that he is open to meeting fans occasionally, but if he really wanted to be fan friendly he would be more reasonable in his ticket pricing.

    I find him fan friendly.

    Perhaps the problem is in the mirror?

    I just don't think he's charging more than other artists of his caliber. Dave Matthews for example. Why should he charge $30 a ticket like Chris Cornell only to have scalpers charge 4-5x that on eBay. I don't know about you but I'd rather that money go to the artist.

    I think at the end of the day everyone realizes that this is not the same EV from the early 90s. I'm not saying that to be critical, but its just the way it is.

    In the 90s they were careful to keep ticket prices down and it probably meant they left a ton of cash on the table. Now they do not do that... they price to a point where they'll sell tickets well, but they are not leaving much on the table anymore.

    I'm not saying its right or wrong, but at some point that's what I've come to accept. I get annoyed with people who blame the increases on gas and whatnot because thats just trying to rationalize without any real basis/facts, but I guess over the last 8 years you can see they've changed their business models from merchandising to the ten club to concert tickets.

    I'm also not going to say if you don't like it quit the TC like many do... its a fair argument to wonder why he charges so much more than many full bands when its a solo show. I mean... he's raking in serious cash on these shows between tickets and merch.

    I guess at the end its an argument where both sides have valid points and threre's no real endgame...just round and round and round it goes with arguing over why tickets are so expensive and what that says about the band.

    I'm not in the industry, but I imagine it costs A LOT more to play a place like the Auditorium Theater in Chicago than it does to play the Showbox.

    Tres Mts could play a bigger or nicer venue and charge $50, but who's gonna pay it?

    I think this is true too, but one thing I'm fairly certain of is that cost per attendee goes down overall too. That said, Tres Mts probably cant get 2500-3000 people to a show where EV can.

    I think that might play a role in the price difference, but it cant be THAT big of difference. If you're talking a $55-$65/ticket difference, a lot of that has to be profit doesn't it? Especially when Tres Mts is 4 people and EV is just one...
  • I find 78 bucks to be pretty cheap to see an amazing artist , compared to the prices of other artist an shows that rape your pocket. I think its quite fan friendly

    If he sells out most or every show, why would he lower the price? They'll just get scooped up and scalped for that much more anyhow. Additionally (and for that reason), it will be exponentially more difficult for you to get a ticket at face value. Technology being what it is, there ain't many bargains to be had. Time to be a big boy and face it.

    I believe in this train of logic as well. Just a simple equation here: (dollars spent through Ticketmaster or ten club-Ticketmaster fees)*(# of tickets through those points of sale) + (dollars spent through scalping sites - scalper's mark up)*(# of tickets sold through scalping sites)=gross profit on ticket sales for the tour. In addition, on a fairly basic level, ($ spent through legitimate channels + $ spent through scalpers)/(# of tickets) = average price a customer is willing to pay. Put these two things together and it is a reasonable assumption to make that raising ticket prices up to a certain market-dictated price makes sense to reduce the usefulness of a scalper to an end buyer, thus hopefully reducing number of tickets sold to scalpers, and optimizing money which will go to Eddie and the organization.

    $78 is the price a night out in any city in America would run you (not including dinner). And chances are if you are on this board you'll never forget that night for the rest of your life. So, please...cry me a river. It really isn't even worth debating.
  • In reality if any of you went to work today and your boss said to you, you can make $200 or you can make $50 to do the exact same amount of work I bet 100% of you would say 'OK, I want to make $200'. Honestly when you factor in where that money comes from, does the equation change all that much?
    {if (work != 0) {
    work = work + 1;
    sleep = sleep - work * 10;}
    else if (work >= 0) {
    reality.equals(false);
    work = work +1;
    }system("pause");
    return 0;}
  • The bottom line is, if you are against the price of the tickets then just don't go. Gives everyone else who doesn't think the price is outrageous a better chance at obtaining tickets. Be thankful we have the opportunity and at a fair price. Also think to yourself well at least we aren't being charged hundreds of dollars for tickets like other musicians like lady gaga, Elton John, etc.
