Because Kurt's death wasn't nearly as important as 9/11 or Katrina. It's not like Lennon's where he was murdered with cold blood outside his house, the shock was less, especially after the facts came out later with the OD in Rome, etc..
I don't think MTV unplugged was as important as The Beatles on Ed Sullivan (though I listen to it more).
I agree. I don't think any artist's death was as shocking as John Lennon's. Here was a man, who was the leader of the greatest band in music history and spokesman of his generation, coming out of a 5 year retirement with a whole new outset on life and was reborn and ready to start over (which "(Just Like) Starting Over" was about). His music and lyrics had a bright side to them, as shown in DF and M&H. He was ready to take over the world again and continue his message of peace and then he was taken away from all of us. His music and message are still alive.
The Beatles on Ed Sullivan changed the world and started a revolution.
Kurt's death was also a shock; he was Generation X's spokesman, their John Lennon.
I'll have to read through this thread tomorrow; good stuff to read on here.
