In search of a great book. Help me!

So I just finished reading Paul Theroux's traveling journal "The old Patagonian express". Great book, although not his best one. (I highly recommend another book by him, Dark Star Safari, in which he writes about his travels throughout the African continent). So I haven't picked a new book yet...have no idea what to read next. Need something new like...right now! Any recommendations?

I read pretty much everything. Fiction, non-fiction, biographies, journals, science etc. Maybe not poetry...The last five books I read were the two Theroux books, the Stieg Larsson trilogy, Stephen Hawking's "the Grand Design", "look me in the eye (my life with aspberger's)" by John Elder Robison. As you can see, any genre goes, well yeah except poetry I guess.

Please dear PJammers, help me find my next book!

Thank you :)

  • Theres a book called The Wave by Susan Casey i just finished reading. Its about giant waves and surfers who ride them. Its excellent. Read it then listen to 'big wave', that song is different to me now.
    A few others for ya

    White Noise by Don Delilo.
The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon.
    Any Kurt Vonnegut book.
    Anything by Hemmingway.
Mary Roach has some great books too. Her book Stiff is about dead bodies and their many interesting uses.

HA! Just the other day I found a copy of this that I bought years ago and put it aside to start when I'm on tour next week and the week after. I haven't read it since high school. I love the movie.

    I absolutely quote that!

As for the book, if you've never read any Eggers, you should definitely go with

Think I might add this book to my future readings. Thanks! :) Btw, did you see the movie Pan's Labyrinth? As I was reading the review for your book, I somehow came to think of that movie...

Fiction - Let the Great World Spin. Colum McCann. Beautiful writing. And I'm almost done with Cutting for Stone. Abraham Verghese. Also beautiful writing.

Non-fiction - my husband just finished the Jon Krakauer book about Pat Tilman, Where Men Win Glory. Good, but sad. I read the Frank Sinatra bio by James Kaplan and it's kind of trashy good fun.

One of the best books ever came recommended on this forum - King Leopold's Ghost about the rape of Africa.

Also in fiction, Matterhorn, about Vietnam. Karl Marlantes. Super great.
