Awesome these are being released but I wish they would find someone else to do them because most of these (and many of the BC shows) sound like shit. Whoever is doing these has no idea how to mix anything. They don't sound like the live show at all.

Agreed. The Crowes could really use someone with some technical expertise in this area. Most of their live recordings as well as their live DVDs (with the exception of the last one) sound and/or look like shit.
They are inconsistent as well. There are a couple shows from the "Say Goodnight to The Bad Guys" tour that are just plain missing.

I don't think Freak N' Roll... Into The Fog sounds too bad.

That sounds great, but the boots usually do not. The final six shows from the San Fran run last year on iTunes sound great though.

Definitely in for Dallas and Austin. May do Houston too. The tickets are so cheap for such small venues and long sets. Except for the ones where he is opening for the J. Geils Band.

Yeah...I don't mean this as a slam on Ed, but it's kinda sad that you can get a ticket to see Chris Robinson play a 3 hour/2 set show for the same price as a deck of playing cards at an EV show.

I wish this band would get up to Canada, the man just bleeds music.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

What's the quality of the nugs.net recordings? Is it worth it? And for those of you who have sampled....which would be the best show...I love Mississippi you're on my mind so one with that one would be what I would lean toward....5/10 Santa Barbara seems like the one I would most want
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

It is really hit or miss. The biggest problem I have with them is they sound like they were recorded on some hand-held tape recorder. The vocals and keys are always too high in the mix and sometimes you can't even hear the drums or the guitar. Some are better than others. Actually that Santa Barbara sounds pretty good based on the samples.

    3/30 is horrid.
    4/18 sounds pretty decent.
    4/28 might be the worst.

    Tonight's The Night!
The Brotherhood starts their "1st trip into the interior of our amber waves of grain" at Turner Hall in Milwaukee. I'm hitting Cleveland Saturday and Cincy Sunday.
    Anyone else in?

Have fun!! Hope he plays the longer sets like he did in California. That Pioneertown set was a ridiculous 3.5 hours.

Cleveland here I come! Unfortunately tonight won't be a 3.5 hour set because Band of Heathens is opening with an acoustic set. However, tomorrow night in cincy is just CRB. I'll try to post details and possibley some pics when I get back.
  • HeisenbergHeisenberg Posts: 4,957
So 14 songs but still 2.5 hours of CRB style goodness last night in Cleveland (and it probably went on until 2:30 in the neighboring tavern with Band of Heathens...who I highly recommend checking out). I had a 2.5 hour drive home and am driving another 2.5 tonight to see him again in Cincy so I couldn't stick around but I'd be willing to bet Chris got on stage with Band of Heathens at their post show set next door.
Great show, awesome venue (I mean where else can you find a late night vintage store inside of a concert venue?), sold out crowd and Chris seemed to really be enjoying himself. Not that he doesn't with the Crowes, but he seems much more free on stage with The Brotherhood than he does with the Crowes (although I'd be lying if I said there weren't at least 3 or 4 times throughout the night that I wished Rich, Steve, Luther, and Sven were on stage). Other than the encore break, I don't think the music stopped once all night. Here's the setlist...

    1. Eagles On The Highway
    2. Poor Elijah-Tribute To Johnson
    3. Tulsa Yesterday (The 1st 3 songs alone ran nearly 40 minutes)
    4. Appaloosa
    5. Brown-Eyed Women
    6. Tomorrow Blues
    7. Star or Stone
    8. Vibration & Light Suite
    9. Ride
    10. I Ain't Hiding
    11. Rosalee
    12. Sunday Sound

    Encore:
    13. Seventh Son
    14. Mississippi, You're On My Mind
  • FlaggFlagg Posts: 5,856
    Still a good set!

Eagles on the Highway is one of my favs. Tulsa Yesterday is a good new one.

Yeah, as I mentioned in my reviews Chris is much more loose than he is with the Crowes. He jokes with the crowd and lets you take pics and even hangs out with the fans. Really cool.

    New shows announced today!

For the record, I've been sitting here listening to boots of the recent shows and I must say...the Brotherhood kicks ass. Between "Rosalee", "Tomorrow Blues", "Star or Stone" and "Tulsa Yesterday", this might be some of the best stuff Chris has written in a looooooooong time. While I still want the Crowes back someday, I have no problem following around the Brotherhood for a year or two. For anyone not on board, get on board...this shit is good!

yup. it really pisses me off.
BC/Chris has what?.... one or two more people in the band, but it's about the same. (compared to PJ)
you can't blame quality either because PJ/EV/BC/CR put on a hell of a show.

anyway..... i'm enjoying reading this thread. thanks.

I wish CR would play a few shows in Canada. That's a shitload of shows to play without one stop in Canada!

Thursday night in Dallas. Pretty solid crowd. Bigger than I expected. I got there a little early where about 20 of us were waiting in line. Neal, Muddy and Chris came out after soundcheck to greet us. Got to meet him again and shake hands. He gave us some buttons that said "A Gift from the Brotherhood". LOL. Chris is so down to earth with this band rather than the Crowes. They are a much tighter band than when I saw them in March and April.

As I had hoped, the set was 3 hours and 15 minutes long. Couple of Crowes songs, some solo stuff, new stuff and covers with lots of long jamming. Some of the songs, you just don't want them to end. Bertha was a surprise!! Might have been the first time played. A friend went with me. He is a huge Dylan fan so Tough Mama knocked him off his feet.

    - Set One -
    TULSA YESTERDAY
POOR ELIJAH - TRIBUTE TO JOHNSON (MEDLEY)
    TUMBLEWEED IN EDEN
    STAR OR STONE
    BERTHA
    REFLECTIONS ON A BROKEN MIRROR
    TOMORROW BLUES
    ROSALEE

    - Set Two -
    40 DAYS
    TOUGH MAMA
    ROLL OLD JEREMIAH
    THEY LOVE EACH OTHER
    VIBRATION & LIGHT SUITE
    RIDE
    GIRL I LOVE YOU
    SUNDAY SOUND
    - encore -

Friday night in Austin topped Dallas. The set was 3 hours, 30 minutes. Unreal. I paid $17 a ticket and got almost 7 hours of music. Proof that these guys aren't just looking for a buck. They seemed in a much happier mood tonight. Not that they were in a bad mood in Dallas, but just lots of smiles and joking around with the crowd tonight. Weird Austin does that to you.

This show was sold out. Little place called The Parish on 6th Street. Amazing place to see a show.

Girl of Mountain was a debut. And I got a couple of personal favorites: Driving Wheel, Appaloosa, Eagles on the Highway.

    - Set One -
    TOMORROW BLUES
    EAGLES ON THE HIGHWAY

One thing is for sure...when you drop money to see the Brotherhood, you will get waaaaaay more than you paid for. Looks like you got some great sets Flagg. I'm thinking more and more with the way this whole CRB thing is going that the Crowes hiatus might be very lengthy.

I hope not but i hope if it is that they may come to Australia.... highly doubtful though seeing as though the crows only ever came twice I think :(
