I am surprised no one brought this up yet

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41986715/ns ... _politics/

too bad someone else had to lose their job because of the actions of an idiot. I don't understand why the comments made by one person suddenly are representative of the entire organization.
anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

My only thoughts are that perhaps going private will allow them to get some talent. I listen to NPR on the way to work to catch up on headlines but their open forum shows are complete train wrecks that are devoid of personality and production. I assume these are people that could not make it at a "for profit" station and this is their last refuge.

Exactly. Besides, they have one talented person. Terry Gross is perhaps the best interviewer on the planet.

at the risk of getting into one of the tea party is so awful arguments...no he wasn't
that being said, right or wrong, it doesn't matter, she shouldn't have been forced to resign because of something said by a dumb employee.
I could see if it was an executive that said something like "we are trying to portray all tea party members as racists to damage their credibility"...that would be something
but he didn't and she didn't deserve what she got

Of course, since the Juan Williams incident, NPR has been under extra scrutiny for behavior such as this. It's no secret to anyone listening that NPR has been, um, less than balanced over the years. At any rate, what this NPR executive said was far more outrageous than what Juan Williams got fired for saying. As the CEO, she should have kept her troops in line and in check. The buck stops with her. And I think it only makes sense that NPR let her go. They're probably aiming to put all this mess behind them and get a fresh start in hopes of not losing their federal funding.

But of course it is! This executive said something that insulted white people! But when Juan Williams said something completely RACIST against Muslims, it's really not THAT big of a deal.

In fact, what Juan Williams said was actually a racist comment. THAT is outrageous. It's different than an executive accusing a party of having racist people (which it does by the way). Being racist and accusing others of being racist, even if incorrect, are two total different things. And what Juan Williams did was despicable. I'm glad he was fired.

Actually, what Juan Williams said was more anti-muslim than racist. There are white Muslims, black Muslims, Asian Muslims, Arab Muslims, etc... So I think calling it racist is inaccurate. He made a statement about getting nervous when he sees Muslims on a plane. So his statement had more to do with his discomfort with a religion than anything racist. I see people bashing Christians all the time on television (and on this forum, I might add). Are all those people racist as well?

And since when did all the folks on this message board start championing CEO's?

Semantics. The fact is that 'Muslim' has taken on its own sort of culture. As in, if a woman is wearing a headscarf, it does not matter whether she is white, black, Asian, Arab, etc... She's just Muslim.

And saying you feel nervous when seeing a Muslim on a plane is akin to saying you feel nervous when seeing a black man near a jewelry shop.

Well, I know this will make a lot of you squirm, but the fact of the matter is that a bunch of Muslims killed thousands of Americans with airplanes on 9-11. I'm sorry, but that's not racist....that's a FACT! (unless you buy into that whole truther Van Jones BS, of course).

Good point. Facts can be quite inconvenient, can't they?

Unabated tolerance killed 14 at Ft. Hood. Any of you wonderfully tolerant people ever been near a flightline? Been in a firefight? Do you even know where Bosnia is? Do you know what a light Blue helmet with big UN letters looks like?' I'm here solely because I love PJ and my best good friend made me love EV.

I'm guessing from your post that you're a military man. Not being one myself, I say with great humility: thank you, sir, for your service.

Of course not...this equation is nonsense. News flash: it was not one Muslim who killed Americans on 9-11....it was many acting together. And robbery is not terrorism. Are you seriously equating robbing a jewelry store with murdering thousands of people?

    yeah, that was the point...

seriously, I think the point was this; if you're going to be scared of all Muslims based on 9/11, the you should you should be scared of all black man if one robs a jewelry store...

I know it's a hard concept...but he poster was simply using your flawed logic....
