awesome...just saw this posted over on the Soundgarden board. I'll never understand those that trash on Chris Cornell. Simply put, he's an amazing talent.
youtube used to have acapella versions of jesus christ pose and black hole sun. they were awesome.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
Butthead: Huh huh.

Because for someone that had such an amazing run from Soundgarden onto Euphoria Morning, to out put a few mediocre supergroup albums, and two bad solo albums, then jump ship back to his old band when people loathe his attempts at relevancy, stinks badly of desperation.
Thanks EPOTTSIII!

Um...okay. Then, let's hear your album, champ.
Lol, people don't need to be able to make something to have an opinion on it. I guess if you don't like your car, you have to go build your own just to have an opinion on cars.

Not quite. There's probably a reason Cornell is world famous and you're not. Just sayin.

I'll give you that Audioslave's last two albums weren't nearly as good as their first release...Scream was rushed and ill conceived, plain and simple. I was separating his career from his natural ability as a singer. My point was that I've heard quite a bit of criticism of his voice, singing, writing style and I never understood that. Sure, he's made some "interesting" career decisions, but his talent is undeniable. There are probably only a handful of people who can push their vocals like he can, and these studio tracks are a great reminder of that, even if they were recorded in 1991.
Unbelieveable. I started this thread to celebrate the man's voice. Either then or now, it doesn't matter. I know it's the studio version with just voice and no music. It's still pretty powerful to listen to. Didn't really wanna make another thread about how much Audioslave sucked and his recent solo albums, blah blah blah. (Incidentally, I like Audioslave, all the albums. I must be the only one.) Just listen to his voice on this and appreciate it. Just soak it in. It's pretty wicked if you can just sit back and appreciate it for what it is, and not, "Yeah, that's cool, but what was up with TImbaland crap?" If that's what you think of when you hear this, there's something wrong with how you analyze music. And that's my opinion. I'm done.
Bring on Soundgarden!!!!!

Incidentally, I like Audioslave, all the albums. I must be the only one.
I thought they were all very solid, with some real stand out moments.
I liked the first 2 a lot, and maybe about one third of that last album.
The last album features what I consider to be their best song, Wide Awake - shame they split up so soon after its release, that song could have been huge, for those who don't know it:
Anyone know where I can get an mp3 of Chris doing 'Until We Fall' acoustically? I think it was in studio thing maybe for AOL music or something like that when Revalations was being released.
All the Audioslave albums are great, maybe the last one not being so good but some absoloute crackers on them. Cornell's voice was completely horrible on the self title tour and Out of Exile, I don't know how he recorded how what he did in the studio but nonetheless it's still great.
He is a bit hoarsy on the 2006 unplugged show but some great versions of songs on there.
Yeah that's about right. He can hit alotta the notes he used, but he's lacking the power he used to weild.
I don't think it's a lack of power, so much as the seamless way he could go from note to note. His voice had real elasticity back in the day. If you listen to how he performs songs like Slaves and Bulldozers now, he can hit most of the notes, but it's a bit more disjointed. Still incredible though.
Not quite. There's probably a reason Cornell is world famous and you're not. Just sayin.
That's all you saying "If you think it's so bad let's see you do better" amounts to. It means that, essentially, you're not allowed to have an opinion on something if you're unable to do it yourself. Under that logic, you can never dislike an album, you can never think a movie is boring, you could never say "this shirt is ugly", if you couldn't write your own album, make your own movie, or sew your own clothes. It's a cheap, thin argument, and it sounds even more childish than my last two posts when you say "There's a reason why you're not world famous, champ".
My opinion is that Cornell is in this for all the wrong reasons, based on both his recent track record and his quick jump from experimenting with "Scream" to going back to SG when public opinion was sour on it. It's way too coincidental. Soundgarden was an amazing band, with some great records, and Euphoria Morning showed real promise for his solo career. But since then he hasn't put out anything truly essential, except maybe for Audioslave's debut. So God forgive me if I fear one of my favorite bands is about to tarnish their legacy with a money-driven reunion.

First of all, you're misquoting me. I didn't say "There's a reason why you're not world famous, champ." What I actually said was, "There's probably a reason Cornell is world famous and you're not. Just sayin." Champ was from a different quote. If you're going to bring that up, at least be accurate about it.
Second of all, it's a little unfair to assume Soundgarden is "about to tarnish their legacy with a money-driven reunion." I admit it is a possibility but it is unfair to automatically dismiss them before they have a full chance. Give them more time. There is always a chance for more shows/touring. Word is they are currently working on a new album. Are you going to judge that before you hear it? What more could you possibly ask for from a reunion?
Lastly, you started your second paragraph with, "My opinion is that..." and I'd like to point out that's all this really is. Your opinion, my opinion, everyone's opinion. No one is really right or wrong. It just is.
Sorry, I slightly misquoted it. The gist was still there, at least.
And that's right, it's opinion. You sound as if you don't want people to have those unless they have similar talent, which is wrong.
Truth is, I'm afraid to hear their new music. Chris hasn't really anything Soundgarden-esque since 1996, and Matt is the only other one out of the band that's been really active musically. When bands spend so many years apart, they lose the thread of what they had been building up for so many years. When STP put out their new album last year, after being broken up for only 7 years, it sounded nothing like them. That's what I'm afraid of now. A Soundgarden album in membership and name, but not in sound. I'm afraid they'll royally fuck this up.
Thanks EPOTTSIII!

Yup very true except the 'Cry on, Black Rain' bit which was recorded recently. Still good though
Yep, including those really high "cry on" screams towards the end, very impressive stuff, and it bodes well for the new record.
A new Soundgarden record is exciting to me and more significant than 90% of stuff being put out today.
+1. Couldn't agree more! Can't wait to hear some new Soundgarden.

That's a poor argument. Britney Spears is famous, Nickelback is famous, Milli Vanilli was famous. Fame does not equal talent.

Of course not. That could not be more obvious. There are different reasons people become famous and in Cornell's case, it is because of talent.
