What was your favorite unofficial Pearl Jam bootleg CD?

Before the official '00 bootlegs were released all we had that was officially released by Pearl Jam was Live In Atlanta '94, 3 CD set. After hearing today's AET topic about PJ collecting, which unofficial Pearl Jam bootlegs did you buy & collect before the '00 bootlegs?

ZVzCY.jpg

The Rockin' In The Free World bootleg was my favorite bootleg of '92. It was the most expensive single bootleg @ 35 bucks while all other singles were selling @ 30 bucks a CD. I've spend hundreds of dollars buying up all these from '92 - '98. I pretty much stopped buying them since I got plugged into the matrix (online) in '99.

Good times! :)

My favorites were "The longest Day" RI 96
"In God We Trust' Bridge 94
The Melbourne Triple J Concert from '98 I believe
And so you see, I have come to doubt

I could never understand why people invested so much time/effort/money into bootlegs back then only to have them accompanied with the most god awful artwork I've ever seen...those bootleggers should have put more effort into their art...just my 2 cents.

The Triple J broadcast that year was amazing. Wish they broadcasted more live show's those day's like that.

I think many of the artworks with those bootlegs were pretty good. I've never seen those live Pearl Jam photo shots & never heard the live shows/demos so it was a must to collect. Living in a small town in Halifax where the band has never played in, it was just thrilling buying up all these Pearl Jam bootlegs as possible those day's, before the world wide web, before getting everything freely these day's online.

Thats it, "All Hail to the Lucky Ones" It had a pic of Vedder crouched down holding a drink on the cover.

Also, wasnt that show supposed to be "Give Way", the free giveaway from Best Buy for SVT that year as well?

I'm not sure. Only PJ CD I know that was given away was the Pearl Jam Yield Radio Special 56:37 disc @ the HMV stores here. We never had a Best Buy store in these parts of the woods until the late '00's.

I have that Triple J Melbourne show on the bootleg titled "Down Under Again".

Yea, I was right. From 5 Horizons:

August 2, 1998: PJ's home video, Single Video Theory, is slated for release August 4. It features footage of PJ in the studio rehearsing early and alternate versions of Yield songs (minus "Push Me Pull Me" and "Pilate") and interviews. SVT has received much praise from those receiving advance copies and lucky attendees at a sneak preview held in Austin Saturday night.

Now the frenzy has turned to a CD which will be offered to the first 100 or so people to pick up the video at Best Buy outlets or online at the Best Buy web site. There is no confirmation that this CD (titled Give Way), consisting of 17 songs from the March 5, 1998 Melbourne show [which was radio broadcast and web cast live], will be included at other stores. (Best Buy is listing it as "exclusive.")

August 3, 1998: As PJ fandom anxiously awaits the release of the video tomorrow, a new development on the free CD front. Apparently, Sony has issued a cease-and-desist that may prevent the major retail chain in question (hey, we're not gonna give them any more free advertising!) from selling the video.

Billboard reports that the retail store in question negotiated directly with Pearl Jam for this promotion, and that only 50,000 cd's were pressed. People phoning their local store have been told anything from "we don't know anything yet" to "yes, we will be giving away the cd".

While this is a very cool thing, we wish that the band had negotiated with a national retail chain, as there are major parts of the country which do not have the retail chain in question anywhere near them. Yes, you can order it online, but they are only going to make 200 cd's available for online orders.

Since neither of us live anywhere near the retail chain in question, we cannot answer any more of your questions about this free CD. If we hear definitely yes or definitely no, we'll post an update, but those of you planning to travel may or may not actually get this cd tomorrow morning.

i worked at best buy when the 'give way' shit went down. i'd been listening to it in the back room the whole week or so prior. come in the day or two before SVT comes out and my supervisor immediately grabbed me aside and asked where i had the cd and that we had to send them all back. i had that cd in my hands a ton of times! i wish i could have found a way to get one out, but that shit was locked down. got a free cd out of it, though, as best buy had to give away a cd worth 14.99 or whatever since they couldn't give out the pj disc.

anyway, i have a silver boot called "live in los angeles" or something, but the recording is actually the zurich 92 show. that's probably my favorite unofficial boot i have.

Yep I remember waiting for BB to open to get that cd and was let down. I ended up buying the "Down Under Again" bootleg later anyways. I'm listening to the "In Rock We Trust" bootleg now from Bridge 94!!!

I liked "Chapters" back in the day...it was the one that ripped off Vitalogy's artwork.

Ahh those were the good ole days. Before internet and cell phones. My first Pearl Jam boots were actually on tape. Driving for miles looking for every cool little record store you could possibly find. Usually the good PJ boots were in the glass display case in front of the store or on the wall behind the counter. It was so exciting to discover a "new" PJ cd. Had to have em. The band was still very 'underground' back then and i just could not get enough of them. Seemed like every cd had a new cover or a cool b-side or an unreleased song on it. Every show different. How could you not spend all your money chasing this great music? :)

Anyways some of my favoirite unofficial boots were 'Hotpoint', 'Jewel Box 5', Secret Gig, Dangerous Mind, 'Monkey Wrench', 'Piss Bottle Men', 'Self Pollution Live', 'Universal Version', 'The Complete Maui Experience' and 'Hallucinogenic Recipe'.

From Then 'Til Now is a mix of early live stuff w/a couple Bad Radio demos, plus instrumentals of many of Ten's trax before Eddie wrote the vocals...probably my favorite.

Anyone have the boot with the picture of Oz on the cover? Looks like it was taken from the poppy field, w/the yellow brick road leading to Oz...some sweet accoustic trax on there, but I've lost this through the years. Interested in a trade if anyone has this one laying around.

I owned a bootleg called Versus the World that I used to listen to all the time.

It had a bunch of acoustic stuff including the MTV Unplugged show. It was the first version of Footsteps that I owned and it was the first time I heard Hard to Imagine.

When I was in college, I loved finding bootlegs with PJ songs that I had never heard before. There was something cool about the "treasure hunt" to find rare tracks or covers. Even when the official 2000 boots were released, I would first buy the ones that had songs I had never heard before. I think I bought the Indy show from 2000 just to hear Throw Your Arms Around Me.
