I still like it, I don't think they ripped anyone off. :D

Yeah it's not bad, I just think it's not the best. But you seriously gotta get funerals. It's epic. Then suburbs then neon bible.

But like me I think you might have heard a lot of their stuff and not realised. Especially if you listen to triple j a bit.

    I don't listen to any radio :?
Yeah will check out the other albums.

Not yet, will soon after this album is finished.

Look at this comment I saw on Amazon...

"I took a gamble with this one after reading some rapturous reviews but frankly it is just boring - some of the tracks sound like Abba trying to get alternative!"

I don't see the hype at all with them. I listened to their albums and nothing. I saw a live thing on Palladia and nothing.

well then, maybe you should move along to something you do like. is this not the second time you've mentioned that you don't see the hype in this thread? i think everyone got it the first time.

Arcade quickly became one of my favorite bands in 05 after hearing Funeral. Now, after time has gone by I'd have to say Neon Bible is my favorite album from them. Funeral is a very close second (if not a tie) and third would be Suburbs.

If you're a fan I would check out their EP. It's not all that good compared to their albums, IMO, but it has a few some interesting songs including an early version of No Cars Go. Their B-side "Cold Wind" from the Six Feed Under soundtrack is also pretty good.

I'm right there with you - I'm not saying the band is BAD, and I'm not going to bash anyone who digs them. For me though, as an experienced musician with many years of practice, recording, and performing, I look for two things in music/other bands: (1) a certain level of technical skill at playing an instrument, and (2) great songwriting. This band isn't really up to par for me in either of those areas. This is just my personal opinion, and I haven't heard everything they've ever done, but enough to make an informed assessment. Again, they're not BAD by any means - I'm just not sure why they're winning Grammys and why there's such a huge mainstream appeal. I think they have more of a "revival" sort of experience to their shows that people may relate to on a more emotional level than what I tend to identify with. For me, I just tend to focus more on songwriting and technical ability, without all the gimmicks.

For those who dig 'em though, more power to ya!

that's a fair assessment. arcade fire has always been about the emotion. i would agree that they aren't technically the most skilled musicians out there, but their emotion/passion and energy on stage more than make up for it....and the great songwriting. of course it's a matter of taste, but i think the songwriting is the best thing about the band. i've been moved by their words many of times.

In what order would you rank their albums?
I love each one and it is hard to decide, at the moment I would say....

    1. Neon Bible
    2. The Funeral
    3. The Suburbs

I can take this too. I love all their albums so it's really hard for me choose. They're all #1s

Ever heard Calexico's version of the song? It's a great take on it.

And for the record, they're all damn good, but I also go with this ranking:
    1) Neon Bible
    2) Funeral
    3) The Suburbs

The "Cold Wind" single is also worth picking up. As for the EP, I'm really not a fan of it. I think the original version of "No Cars Go" even kinda blows.

Cold Wind is good. I think they also have some other B-sides that I haven't heard. I think Keep the Car Running single has one, and there ware some on youtube that were unfamiliar to me.

The EP is okay but almost sounds like a collection of demos. I like maybe 3 or 4 songs on there. Headlights Look Like Diamonds and Old Flame aren't bad. Didn't like No Cars Go on there as I had already heard the version from Neon Bible and think that one is better...but if I consider the EP version a "demo version" it really isn't that bad.

It's not as though I think it's unlistenable. There's nothing on it that I really dislike and I think the songs you mentioned are actually quite good (especially "Headlights").

There really is no cohesiveness to it, so it does come off like a collection of demos.

I got Sprawl II on repeat.

the best song on the record imho. I like that one and Month of May and also Empty Room.

I can't get their songs out of my head, I have not been this excited by a band in a long time.
My favourite contemporary rock band now.
    Something new and fresh.
