    Did you know that when I first met Jeff Ament, he lived in a small, small, tiny studio apartment?... It was about 100 steps from the entrance to this building, on John Street... To think how long it took him to get 100 steps to this stage... I'm going to toast to my friend Jeff Ament... But even more kind of spectacular than these last 100 steps was how many miles it took to get him from where he grew up in a very, very small community in Montana, called Big Sandy... Population: 660... 10% was just his family, you see... And they can verify, because the family is here tonight... Sisters and brothers... Let me toast to you too... I'm going to be hammered by the fifth stone here... Jeff was a barista at Raison d’Etre... Coffee joint... Mike McCready worked at Piecora's, you see... And Piecora's is right across the street too... Hey Mike, so is this better than fucking cutting pepperoni or whatever?... How about Matt Cameron?... He went from working at Kinko's to be one of the greatest drummers on the planet... Matt Fucking Cameron... No wonder he never plays the same thing twice... Because he hates making copies... He's done with it... Boom Gaspar was a lifeguard in Waimanalo... His feet are his biggest fins... He didn't have to use fins... He's like Duke Kahanamoku... Josh Klinghoffer worked in a record store, of course... Temporal Records... He's working there right now, apparently... Side job... I worked at Longs Drugs... Longs Drugs #12... I thought I might end up at Longs Drugs... I thought I might peak by being an assistant manager at Longs Drugs, which meant I can get my prescriptions for cost plus 10%... I had that to look forward to... Stone Gossard worked at a little place called Gossard Hardware... How did you get that job, Stone?... He also pulled coffee down in Pioneer Square... Something Bakery... So the point of the story is, if there is one: Don't drink too much wine before the fifth song...     There's a guy who's going to make it to Chicago tomorrow... I don't think he's ever been here... His name's Tomas Young ... He's going to come to Lollapalooza in Grant Park... If you see him, he's a great guy... He's in a wheelchair... He came back from Iraq paralyzed from the chest down... He's been extremely courageous in continuing on not just in his life, but in a mission to educate people on to what has been going on over there... It's not what you see in the news... He's taught me an incredible amount... It was because of him that I kind of put together this next song... If you feel that you need to open your voice and sing along to the part that says "No More" please, please do... It's encouraging to hear... ~ Eddie Vedder
