Smith Hart, brother of Bret tweeted the following regarding Jerry Lawler's backstage condition follow his collapse:
"According to my friend Jeremy Prophet who was backstage at RAW, Jerry was clinically dead for 20 min before being brought back by defibrilat"

I didn't realize this actually happened! I don't watch wrestling but I hope he's ok.

WWE has noone to blame themselves for this. Enough enoughs of seeing him in the ring. It's like why not drag out flair or something.

How so? Those guys just don't know when to give it up. I don't think you can guess when something is gonna happen like this.

How would Flair be any better?

I noticed something wasn't right with him. He was very quiet during the match after his tag match and then I saw him speak to one of the ringside crew and saw the crowd look over towards the announcing table.

Flair is actually still wrestling...in TNA...

I agree that these dudes are too old to be doing it but at the same time they're doing it to themselves. I strongly believe that Flair wants to die in the ring...

Was sad to hear about Lawler though, hope he's okay.

the wwe has what they a legends contract. Once you sign that, you have to make a few in ring appearances throughout the year. It's why bret hart was there last night and just recently hbk was in the ring and all the legends leading up to and during raw1000 were in the ring. I always worry with this would happen to the king, but never thought it ever happened. I'm glad to read the king is doing better.

Oh really? Wow I've been out of the game for a while. Totally forgot that his daughter was getting into it. Seems crazy that she would want to after seeing everything her dad went through, you know?!

  • Happy to hear the King is doing better.

Here's my favorite King match...and actually my favorite wrestling match ever because I was a huge Bret Hart fanboy and this was the blowoff match of their great 1993 feud. Lawler pulls out all the stops in this one:

That was a pretty sweet feud they had goin. Probably around the same time they had a "kiss my foot" match" and I remember during the lead up they had King doing all kinds of gross shit bare foot to make his foot as gross as possible. In the end Hart ended up shoving King's foot in his own mouth.

Also remember who Jerry Lawler's "dentist" was? Issac Yankem (aka Kane).

Kinda weird all three of them were there last night and you can tell Kane was looking over at times to see what was going on.

Another thing to check out on youtube is the Memphis 1993 feud between Hart and Lawler. While they were fueding in the WWF leading up to Summerslam (with Bret as the face and Lawler as the heel), they also feuded in Lawler's Memphis-based USWA with Bret (and Owen) as the heels and Lawler as the face.

Some guy uploaded the entire Memphis feud in chapters. He also uploaded McMahon's "invasion" of USWA and the entire Lawler/Andy Kaufman feud. All cool, rare stuff.

Here's the first video of the Bret/Lawler stuff. For some reason it's titled "chapter 2" but there doesn't seem to be a chapter 1. You can find all the others in the related videos. It's interesting from the standpoint of 1993 Bret (the babyface to end all babyfaces) was the heel in Memphis and Lawler, dastardly cheater, was the face.

I seen that. Pretty crazy stuff. Also, in that video of the match you can hear him wheezing and see him kinda like, "what the fucks happening" for a brief instant. Kudos to the production team for keeping 99% of it off air.

Looking good for The King. Might see him on RAW on Monday. They say he's healthy enough to return to the ring. I'm just hoping to see him behind the mic again :D
(Montreal, Canada) Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler continues to prove he’s a fighter by talking and walking just days after suffering a heart attack.
It was a scary night for WWE Raw fans in a Montreal arena Monday when Lawler collapsed at the announcer’s table.
It happened off-screen, but the TV audience knew what was going on when they wheeled the 62-year-old wrestling star out on a stretcher.
Kevin Lawler says his father went without oxygen for about 20 minutes.
They were worried he might have brain damage.
A CAT scan showed no signs of brain damage and doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
Kevin talked to his dad for the first time today and says he sounded just like himself.
He says doctors say his father is healthy for his age and they see no reason why he won’t be able to wrestle again.
Kevin Lawler holds a wrestling event once a month at the Raleigh Springs Mall.
He’s inviting wrestling fans to come out this Friday night at 7pm to pray for his dad and celebrate his remarkable recovery.
