i will read that article but that sounds dubious to me. so a streaming site, stops people from wanting to obtain and have the actual mp3 files? Plus in 1999 the internet was becoming what it is now. Not many people were on napster because the internet was still not in every household. in 2011, almost everyone has the internet and a computer. its like telephones and cellphones. everyone has one. so i find it hard to believe in 2011, maybe a hundred million new people havent started downloading since 1999. makes little sense really
There seems to be a lot of conflicting information going about - claims and counter claims from different interested parties. I have no way of knowing - I have just been picking up quite a few signs that the state of illegal downloading vs the industry isn't quite what the big labels and their reps claim it to be. I can't find the article I read last year which gave figures for decline in piracy which followed certain introductions by Spotify and Last FM (two majr players on the free streaming market)
In looking for it though, I came across quite a few articles saying that there are certain parts of the music industry's argument that don't stand up - eg - illegal downloads = lost sales - when it is often not so simple, people download, then buy, etc etc etc.
Coming back to Radiohead - In Rainbows is a good example of how thinking outside the box and being ahead of the curve of what consumers want and expect can still make you money. How much money did Radiohead end up making from In Rainbows? A hell of a lot! A hell of a lot of people bought it, having already had the free download.....

"Becoming a Bruce fan is like hitting puberty as a musical fan. It's inevitable." - dcfaithful
Inevitably, though, the conversation turns to Radiohead's new album, their first since 2007's In Rainbows shocked the music industry when fans were invited to choose their own download price. It should be pointed out that our conversation takes place well before the rushed release last month of The King of Limbs. "There are more than 10 [songs]," he answers. "To me, it sounds like they're all 99 per cent finished. But my quality level is a little bit lower than everybody else's. I'm impatient, childish. But the others are like, 'No, this is nearly right. Let's get this right.' And looking at our old albums, they've been right in the past. They're probably right now."
Announced on a Monday, due on the following Saturday, pulled forward to the Friday – the arrival of the band's eighth studio LP caught everyone by surprise. In the end, there weren't "more than 10" songs – just eight – fuelling internet chat that a follow-up is fast approaching. Though when is anyone's guess; since the download-it-for-£6 release, every band member has remained tight-lipped (including Greenwood, who declined to answer any follow-up questions about The King of Limbs for this feature).

There is an actual website called Brooklyn Vegan. I would've thought this was a parody considering the ever-so-pretentious name.
MusicIsMyLife doesn't like anyone's taste on Other Music. So, if you think there should be a thread on the new James Blake album, why don't you start one? Enlighten all of us closed-minded people who listen to nothing but Pearl Jam & Nickelback.
Lotus Flower is always on XMRadio and I am not the least bit interested in it after repeat listens. I find Just Breathe to be more interesting. :? (and yes, I am VERY SICK of Just Breathe)

just finished second listen. a total bore. this band used to take us somewhere new with every record. this is a rehash of old material. i think the noises in thom's head have been given enough attention. i'd like to hear the band collaborate again. (maybe that last bit is unfair. just what i'm reckoning.)

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's going to be a TKOL 2 or anything. Although apparently people are still expecting the band to have a new record ready relatively quickly...maybe by the end of the year or early next year?

Too much like a Yorke solo album. If this was a follow up to The Eraser, then it would fall short.
Johnny Greenwood is one of the most talented guitarists/musicians of the past 30 years and it seems like he sat this one out. You can't allow that to happen.
Highly doubt he "sat it out". I understand that there aren't many songs where the guitar jumps out at you, but it is there.
I mean, if you take Kid A for instance, most of the songs on that one didn't feature much guitar at all but Jonny still contributed a lot to each song.

I misspoke. What I should have said is that he, and the band, simply did not use his talents. I expect more from Radiohead as one of my favorite bands. This album is simply not a great album by any means. Neither is it very good. The talent is there, the inspiration is there (or it should be), but the finished product simply was uninspired.

It's just not that interesting. I don't think it's horrible, just, you know, not good. Maybe my 10th favorite album of 2011 so far.

I find it interesting that the band has not announced any tour plans, and has given very little interviews or insight into the making of the record, why they decided to release it the way they did, if there's more material they recorded but didn't want to release, etc.
Meanwhile all of the fans at AtEase and other message boards devoted to them are going batshit insane.
Just to let you guys know, you can download "The Butcher" and "Supercollider" from the TKOL website: http://www.thekingoflimbs.com/

Anyway, here's the two songs they're releasing for Record Store Day: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/ ... k-20110415
Not sure about "The Butcher" (although hearing it in better sound quality would probably help me like it more), but "Supercollider" is very good.
They're doin a less limited release of the 12" on June 14.
I think KoL may be their best sounding record. Too bad about the overall quality of it.
Love the bass playing throughout the album, though.
