Well how cool would it be, to wake up tomorrow and find out that Arcade Fire won album of the year, that Ray lamontagne's Beg Borrow or Steal won best song of the year, Mumford and Sons won best new band, and Vampire Weekend won best alternative album?

Im hoping for this to be the case.

oddly enough 2010 was the first year i got into eminem. He's no doubt one of the greatest mc's of all time, and recovery is a good album, but it isnt best album of 2010.

The alternative categories were tough picks because I love both "Brothers" and "The Suburbs." Really surprised but totally happy for the Black Keys picking up Best Alternative album, as well as for Tighten Up. My favorite album last year.

So awesome that The Black Keys won three Grammy's. I really wasn't sure if they were going to do it. Can't to see them next week!

Also amazing to see Them Crooked Vultures win too!

Dylan sounded awful but he looked like he was having a ton of fun.

Mick Jagger's performance tonight has been the best in my opinion. He manages to make everyone else look exceedingly boring. Second best would have to be Eminem/Rihanna/Dr Dre.
    32 shows and counting...

Yeah that was well deserved but the whole "second song" thing seemed weird. If they hadn't won would the show have just ended sooner? Did they know beforehand? Where are the conspiracy theorists? :D

I am in shock!!! I can't believe Arcade Fire won. Congrats to the Grammy Academy. I think you actually got it right this year.
  • So awesome the Black Keys took home some gold.

I also think it's funny that a lot of people flipping out over Arcade Fire winning are the same ones who have been denouncing the Grammy's as "meaningless" for years.

This band deserved to win. best album of the year of the nominated list hands down. Such a nuanced album, so beautiful.

when was the last time an indie band won a major award, since 2001, when the indie scene sort of became known?

Additionally, when was the last time a band like arcade fire, where people call their live shows religious experiences, and then a band with the type of critical and fan praise that follows arcade fire?

Its a watershed moment for sure.

First indie band to win album of the year. Death cab i think has won alternative album in the past.

its another odd turn in the indie world. Who would have guessed so many indie bands would have hit number 1 in 2010 and a couple have hit number 1 in 2011 as well.

The performance by Mumford and Sons/Avett Brothers/Bob Dylan was fucking great!! You could almost understand Dylan so that was a big plus, but more than anything it was is so fucking cool to see musicians having a kick ass time and playing their hearts out. That is what its about. I've been lucky to see the Avetts live several times and the shows are so fantastic. Can't wait to see Mumford and Sons!! And I love you Joe Kwon. You need a mic!

but how can they be album of the year when The Black Keys beat them in the Alternative album category. Wouldn't that then make Brothers Album of the Year because it beat them earlier? Just sayin'

We just got home from The Grammys.....so excited that AF won!

We snuck down to the posh seats to watch their category announced, so it was cool to be close for their second song. The performances this year were the best in many years.

Mick Jagger was great, as was Cee Lo, and Eminem. As usual, I am still puzzled over the appeal of Muse!
  • and ray lamontagne won best contemporary folk album. very cool. Thats a shocker as well. So surreal. Who would have thought a guy like ray would win a grammy? Certainly not his label!

Again, this is a night for the history books folks.

i think its more bizaare the grammys has an alternative music category at all. its complete nonsense in reality. When I think of alternative I think of the formative years of my youth and the music we that nurtured me, but I also get a sick feeling of the sort of absolute crap that litters modern day "alt rock" radio stations, three days grace, and hinder and all that rubbish. Alternative music died in 1994 when kurt died. When was the last time alt rock radio or modern rock commercial radio played anything worthwhile beyond the occasional early 90's bone thrown to people

When a band like arcade fire wins album of the year, a band who is as alternative, or was as alternative and indie as one can get, the labels have to be rexamined.

They need an indie category, as its been the most dominant musical genre for a decade now. Indie bands routinely hit number 1 on the charts...

alternative as a label strikes me as so oddly out of tune with what is going on with music right now its almost laughable
