Camera Help

Does anyone here have suggestions for a good camera to buy?

Ive often been at PJ shows and tried to get some good shots - to find my pictures are very hit and miss but mostly crap....to look over the guy in front and find him taking stunning shots on what is still a compact camera and not one of those things that has a lens the size of a poster tube.

Im sure i saw one guy at hyde park who had a canon sureshot or something which was a touch bigger than your average compact but the shots he was getting were insane....no blur from movement, no over exposure, no darkness....just crispy amazing shots...

so please good camera tips would be welcome

Just bought my Dad a Nikon D3100 SLR camera. It is base SLR but from all reports very good. IT's my old mans bday tomorrow so we haven't seen it in action yet. Though I will give you some links

I just finished reading ur whole post. Perhaps a bit big? but affordable SLR

If you just want a small point and shoot then go with a Panasonic Lumix. I got some great shots last tour. And the video and sound recording is HD and as good as a hand held recorder.

appreciate your help - thanks ....but yeah something a touch smaller would be great - trying to avoid the SLR option....

i have the Nikon d3100 as well. For the money, it's a great camera. the 18-55mm lens that it comes with is a very nice lens, though I would recommend considering purchasing an additional lens down the road.

thought you couldn't take cameras with 'interchangeable lenses' to shows? I got 50/50 with my cybershot....I wasn't in the pit...up on the lawn, and the good shots came out really good...the stage lights f*ck all the sensors up.
