    Randall's Island - 1996 1st of the 2 shows.
The show was amazing. Awesome. In the rain, in the mud. Witnessing security guard turned John Popper joining the band for Evenflow on the harmonica. What an experience!
And then came trying to leave- the parking lots. What a nightmare. The mud. The puddles. The cars spinning their wheels. How I didn't run out of gas that night trying to get out of there is beyond me. I don't think I will be going back to the Bronx ever again!
    Thanks Adam

Got to parking lot and you could see the storm in the distance. I was with my then 9 year old and he had never seen a tornado or a big storm... hartford 08....was a cold, rainy, windy show up in the lawn. band more than made up for it with their show/setlist, and eddie even made a comment about how bad it looked up in the lawn because of the weather.....had a great time out there.

    thanks for the offer

Not PJ related but has to do with Chicago in winter. I was on my way to Colorado in '98 for skiing and we were transferring in Chicago. As normal with Chicago in the winter the plane had to be de-iced. Wouldn't you know the de-icing truck runs into the wing of our plane and breaks it. 3 hour delay while they found us another plane. Then coming back we're sitting in O'hare about to board our transfer flight back to NY when every flight to the northeast got cancelled because of a blizzard. Spent the night at an airport hotel in Chicago and had to fly into Philadelphia(!) the next day. I haven't transferred through Chicago since.

    Thanks for the offer!
  • Love this print! I concur with BD - Noblesville '10

My sister lives 5 mins from the venue. We kept trying to decide if we should continue the pre-party at her house or head to the lot. Ended up heading to the lot and arriving just in time for the sirens for the tornado warning and furious downpour that ensued. Thankfully we were able to just wait it out in the car, but the resulting delay created one of the worst 10c ticket lines in history. Worth the wait though as I won the lottery for the first time and ended up row 9 dead center! :D

Addendum: I'm in Iowa City. 20" of snow, 35 mph winds and some RIDICULOUS snowdrifts. I can wait for the wind to die down so I can go outside and play!

  • Noblesville for me too. Camped across the street from the venue. Enjoyed great weather and company the night before the show. The day and night of the show, total different story. The skies turned black just before showtime and it poured on us while waiting to get in. The winds then picked up and the temps dropped to the 50's by the time the show started. The show was incredible, but after it was back to reality, and back to my air mattress and dome tent. Temps dropped into the 40's and winds gusting into the 40mph range. On more than one occasion, I actually thought that my tent, with me inside of it, was going to fly away. Never really slept and when it got light, we got the hell out of there! My buddy dropped me off at the airport in Indy, as he was continuing on to Cleveland, and I was back in Milwaukee by 10 a.m., safe and sound!

Alpine Valley '00 (Ice Bowl), although colder, was actually more enjoyable weather-wise for me 'cause I was able to sleep in my own, warm, bed that night. Although, there was frozen puke all over the side of my car from someone that had a little too much fun in the parking lot...

Enjoy yourself today, I thought I was getting out of work completely also, but just found out I have to go in afterall. Six hours late...

  • Thanks for the chance and enjoy the snow day.

My weather related story occurred in Oct. of 96 in Ft. Lauderdale. There was a hurricane out in the ocean and the sky was pretty ominous. Ed made mention of it at the show and how it was kicking up fantastic waves for the surfers. Luckily for us the storm staid far enough away. The show was amazing. On a side note, the minor league baseball field was supposed to hold around 8000 people. 25000 tix were sold. Needless to say it got pretty hectic up front. I just latched on to a guy that was about 6'5'' and had some girth to him. Thanks to him I survived the pit. So, wherever you are.........thanks for the security that night. :)

  • Austin City Limits 09 Pearl Jam headlined the 3 day festival. On day 1 and 2 it rained so hard that the pretty grass had all been trampled and nothing was left but thick mud. It was very overwhelming at first but after you realized there was no way to stay clean we just began stomping around in mud. Throughout the day people were mud wrestling and sliding around in it like it was a slip and slide. When Pearl Jam finally got on stage a couple of songs into Eddie said he was not going home until he was covered in dirt. During the last song Rockin in the Free World Eddie jump from the stage and began running around and he started diving head first and the mud and became covered in mud. Check out about the 2:30 mark.

  • This ought to warm you up. The Gorge, both shows in 2006. My buddy and I fly out to Seattle on Thursday night. Friday night we catch a Mariners/Sox game. Only thing is, its friggin hot. Seattle is in the midst of a heat wave. We were expecting high 70's to mid to high 80's like it should be in July in Seattle. But no, it was freakin' hot! High 90's to low 100's in Seattle. Next day on Saturday, we pick up a rental car and drive out to George, WA where we were staying before going to the Gorge for the show. The rental car has an outdoor temperature gauge on the dash. We keep looking at it in disbelief. The further east we went, the higher that thing went. By the time we got to George, it had hit 114! And every time we got out of the car for any reason, gas, piss stop, sight seeing, picture taking, etc., we'd step out of the car, take three steps and in unison say, "man, it's freakin' hot!" So, we drive out to Grand Coulee Dam to kill the day and its the same thing, step out of the car and you almost die. Dry heat, but moving more than a snails pace and taking anything deeper than a shallow breath and you sear your lungs. It was mad dashes from one air conditioned environment to another. Anyway, we're driving to the show and that car thermometer hits 116 at 6:15 p.m. as we're driving through the farm fields. Unbelievable. So we get to the show and the 10C fan club tixs are in this little side tent and there's a line a mile long. We sweat that out and because the venue didn't have it going on, we missed the opening song. There a lot of hot pissed off people. We get in take our seats and man is in freakin' hot! The shows rocking, the crowd is into it and the view is amazing with the Gorge and the Columbia River as a back drop and the setting sun but, it's freakin' hot. A few or more songs into the show Eddie starts talking about what he's wearing and saying its not because he's trying to bring grunge back but because, "it's fucking hot!" My buddy and I had a good laugh over that and were like no shit! Anyway, one of the best PJ shows I've ever been fortunate enough to participate in. Don't know how the campers dealt with it because it was ridiculously HOT!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

    Thanks for the chance.

    Peace!

Chicago '00 - I went to the INDOOR show the night after the Ice Bowl. EV and the band were so happy to be warm and indoors that they palyed a few extra songs.

Noblesville '10 - We got to the show when the gates opened and found our seats in the pavillion. By the time we got to our seats, the lawn was pretty full. When the storm hit, they had to clear the lawn so that everyone was safe. Needless to say, people who got there early were pissed that they had to give up their spots. We got to stay in our seats and watch a cool storm before the concert started.

Winter '09 in Mass... Woke up one morning and all the power lines were down due to an ice storm. Trees and poles blocked all the roads. I was stuck, power and heat were off for weeks. No lights, no music, in the cold. A group of people started carting in food for people in my neighborhood, and I passed the time by assisting them. Days passed before finally the national guard came to my area, and cleared some debris so that we could no get in and out. I spent the next week or two at a friends, his power was also out, but he had a wood stove for heat, and it was nice to be in good company. After a few weeks, power was finally restored after all that craziness.
it was a mere few weeks after this experience that I decided to pack my bags and move to Arizona, where I sent the next two years enjoying the warm desert sun. :-)

    Thanks!!
  • I was fortunate enough to have great tailgating weather for all four nights of the Wachovia Spectrum run (the last day was a little drizzling but I still considered it great weather)! Was great spending a lot time outside the Spectrum with fellow Jammers!

  • Very thoughtful of you especially in the middle of this armageddon weather we're having!

I don't have a bad weather Pearl Jam story, but 2 of the best moments for me were at MSG2 in 2008 and MSG1 in 2010, standing still for a moment and feeling the ground actually shaking both times. I've never experienced that at any other show I've been to before or since either one of those, such a crazy feeling

Good luck to everyone. I don't really have a story that's crazy, I don't remember it but my mom told me about these.

I think it was in Winter '81, I was 5 years old, we were coming back from the Grand Canyon, heading home towards Sedona, going through Flagstaff and the switchbacks. She said our truck had no headlights, the windshield wipers weren't working and the brakes were on the fritz. It started snowing pretty good and my dad had to lean out the window to see.

Another time, we lived on a dirt road, it snowed 5 feet overnight and all melted the next day making the road a muddy mess, got stuck a few times in it.
