basically i got a brand new carpet in the living room last month. kinda expensive too. we spent a little extra for this one as opposed to the others we looked at.........anyway, the dog left 3 fresh piss stains this morning. :x i was rushing out to work and accidentally sprayed cleaning bleach on them instead of the regular pee stain stuff.

long story short, i am the world's biggest MORON.

  • Bleach can't be removed, but you probably could find some fabric dye that is close to the same color of your carpets and put that on the spot. It will probably still be a little noticeable, but it won't stand out like a bleach stain. I got a bleach stain on some brand new cords of mine and was sick, but I took out a gray sharpie and touched up the spot. It sucks b/c I do this after each wash, but since the stain was close to the bottom hem, it's not noticeable at all.

What carpet cleaner do you usually use for the pet stains ?

I found this Woolite Pet Cleaner is great...when i go back to dab the spot I sometimes can't find it because its gone

i forget. resolve or something. red container. works real well.

the fiance bought this cheaper one that comes in a white bottle and looks exactly like our bleach cleaner for kitchen counters and stuff. hence my mistake.

you can't imagine how pissed i am at myself right now. i realize its kind of funny. but this rug is literally a month old.

Patch it, that way the next time the dog pisses in that spot you can just pull it up and throw it out. Then patch again. Or remove dog.
  • Ugh...

Hopefully it's not in a real noticeable area... patching can be done, but depending on the type of carpet, some are more noticeable than others.

Dying it probably isn't an option... chances are that it's at least a mix of some sort of synthetic material that won't absorb the dye all that well.

  • You can try to patch it yourself. You need a new carpet blade and/or a regular box cutter with a new blade.

Lay your patch piece over the stain-you're going to have to eyeball your cutting area-carefully cut through both pieces of carpet at the same time.... pop out the stained piece and your patch piece should be the exact same shape... throw some glue on the back and voila!

If you have enough extra carpet I highly recommend practicing this first until you're comfortable with it!

    Or--buy a little throw rug.

btw- The same process works for patching wallpaper.
