Thanks for setting this up Cameron4President. I am on message! Time to dust off those Euro bootlegs. I will start with the shows I rated most highly at the time - Milan, Katowice, Hamburg, Londons, I love the Milan show to bits - it has great ambience, and amazing audience involvement, such sweet singing. I think I particularly rated the Sleight of Hand from Milan. Give me a bit of time and I will work through them, and come up with some more suggestions. Sounds like we have had some great input so far!

    Tremors...

My brother from a UK mother. :D

I expect London to represent now that you are on here.

Indeed! I seem to remember Grievance from London I was very hot! I was at those shows and that was a highlight for me. Will recheck those boots. I think they were stronger on the rockier numbers, esp night 1.

Can I put my vote in though for 2 of the Milan tracks (it's all coming flooding back now the music is playing!!)

    Of the Girl
    Sleight of Hand

I hope we feature at least one of these, because I feel there is a special atmosphere at Milan, which is quite dark and brooding, a bit like the studio album - and these 2 songs for me stand out as capturing something of the Milan magic.

Apparently, Soon forget from Zürich, 2000/06/23 is the only version that doesn't include a fuck-up of some sort ....

Well, that helps to narrow down which version of "Soon Forget" we will be using.

Thanks! I am very keen we have the right version of Light Years for this collection - but as with other projects I think you can't always tell which versions work or feels best within the overall thing or next to each other until you listen to them within the 'piece'. Looks like we are making great progress already though!

Haven't checked the other versions out there, but London's Grievance -from either night- rocks indeed !

I'll put in another vote for Grievance London I, and also for Thin Air from Milan - which also has a little dedication at the beginning to those in love.

Tremors, I have "Of The Girl" currently in the Milan slot. Which is better from that show: "Thin Air" or "Of The Girl"?

    I'll second that too.
Thin air's far from being my favorite song off Binaural since I'm not so keen on the lyrics, but I reckon this version is very sweet, with the sing-along and the overall 'intimate' and sort of 'cosy' atmosphere.

    *sigh*
Italy always has great audiences ....
  • Is it the rule that only one song can be chosen from a show?
When it comes to Thin Air versions from Katowice2 and Milan really stand out IMO.

For the bonus, maybe Soldier of Love? I am not sure if it fits other Binaural songs but I like the version from London1.
Darkness comes in waves,... tell me, why invite it to stay?
  • The Hamburg RIVAL is maybe "destroyed" by Eddies introduction ("This one's called Rival") in the beginning?

    Sweden has a nice Rival.

And you already have songs from Milan, even though Eddie has more energy on that one maybe.

Not a rule, but we prefer to not have repeat shows if we can help it. In this case, many shows were played during the 2000 European Tour, I see no need to have any repeats. We have a lot of material at our disposal to work with.

Of the girl seems to be the flip-side to Soon forget. Lots of good versions out there from shows that haven't been brought up yet. It should be easy to pick another one if needed. Like the Prague, 2000/06/14 for instance. Or Manchester or San Sebastian, Spain.

thats the best..eddie voice is killer..
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
    "..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."

Tough one - I'm tempted to go with Thin Air, because as much as I love the Milan atmosphere and that version of Of the Girl - I think we will find it hard to recapture the spirit of the Milan 'Thin Air' elsewhere nearly so easily (and going from what others have said). It is not the strongest song, but I think Milan brings a lot of different levels to it. We probably have more choice for Of the Girl, looking more widely. So I would say Milan: Thin Air

I find it hard to pick one rival over another between the Stockholm and Katowice versions.
    They're both very good.
The Katowice 1 is possibly a little wilder. (In a good way :D)

I got you was played at Verona, and a few US dates I think

Did Don't be shy make it's first PJ appearance in 2000? I don't think it was played pre-Rosklide, but I listened to an amazing version of this from Boise 2000 the other day, where Ed talks very movingly about them finding solace in music during the current time, and particularly in Cat Stevens, and they play a very raw version of this song. So if we were going to include a cover from the US legs on this compilation, I would vote for this one - Don't Be Shy, Boise

In the bonuses, would we have a free slot to include an improv ?
I'm currently checking on them, but the Rock Im Park one is really nice.

    Edit :
or Soldier of Love, like Mocik suggested earlier on ?

Either this version of that from Katowice 2, but preferably this one.

Cameron4President asked me to come up with a name for this compilation, and I have been giving it some thought over the past number of weeks. Whilst it is very hard to get right, the provisional title I have come up with is

    'Light Becomes Stars'
