I just googled a couple sites. I thought online gambling was illegal.?
    I'll be back
  • my buddy just got me into online poker last month and now i am hooked. i play at pokerstars... very addictive and you can play very small to very high stakes.

adding money is difficult since US laws prevent you from using MC/Visa/etc. But they have a feature that lets you enter information from your checking account and make deposits that way. totally safe/secure, it just takes a few days for the first one to clear.

Well, Waffle knows I'd never do anything illegal... :D But, no I don't play. However, I did hear Poker Face for the first time at a climbing gym last night. So, that's what the kids are listening to today?

Be careful dude! My buddy got total ripped off and chasing these people/sites down is not easy. With that said - he loved it until he got ripped off which makes sense. The gov't doesn't like this kind of thing so tread carefully.

Pokerstars and bodog have always been decent. But it is online poker, so it is what it is. Sportsbook.com isn't bad either.

If you're near an actual casino/poker room/club/underground game do that instead. Always much, much better. Online is good though to make some instant cash, but if you want to be a solid player, play in a room with 8, 9 other people.

Also, and this is coming from a guy that spent a shit load of hours/nights/days in the Borgata, and many other poker rooms, don't get hooked. Not worth it. Play as long as it's for fun.

i play on ftp from time to time. i would just avoid playing any ring games - too much collusion possibilities or probabilities...just takes away from the fun and whatnot. but the multitable tourneys are usually quite good. a lot of money to be made that way if you can stay disciplined (and sober lol)

I've been playing Pokerstars for about 8-9 years now.

Never had any issues. Great program!

I used to play pokerstars, but it seemed like too many crazy things happened. I'd have 3 of a kind and a flush would hit or a full house. I know those things happen, but it seemed like they were happening way too often. They did happen in my favor also but I just got tired of it.

I, too, went to full tilt and like it a lot. Since April, I have been keep track of all the games I play and I get in the money about 38% of the time. I play Sit and Gos and if I get in the money, I move up a buy in (i.e. if I win a $2 buy in my next game will be $5, etc.). If I don't get in the money, I will go down.

What do you think is the smartest way to make money playing online?

play the small cash games, like $2-$10 buy ins. just try it out and see how you are when playing for real money. that's my advice as someone whose never played for real money. i'm sure others who have played for real money can offer better advice. me personally i stay away from real money just cause of the trappings/downfall of it.

The whole thought of things of being rigged online is just a myth people like to believe because it's the gambler in all of us. You just play a shit load of hands online and your chances of running into those circumstances increase.

If you wanna make money online, then play the cash games. Play about 3 or 4 tables at a time and be extremely tight.

totally agree 100% with this. i played pokerstars for a bit and i couldn't believe the high amount of bad beats. i actually think that site cheats somehow - honestly. it was crazy. i much prefer playing live games in casino's than online. i've pretty much stopped playing online at all now.

i thought that there was some kind of lawsuit alleging cheating on those sites but only vaguely recall. as i said above there were some crazy ass bad beats on poker stars. i mean the amount of ridiciously strongs hands winning on there seems out of whack with what i've encountered in live games.much higher percentage of monster hands in my opinion. as i stated i much prefer live games so i've pretty much stop online play.

Thanks. I actually have been playing for real money for awhile. I know what you mean about the downfalls of it and that's why I go down a buy in when I lose because I know I would be out of money if I didn't lol! I seem to be staying around the same bankroll (right around $300).

I think my main problem is not paying enough attention. I surf the net or I'll be here and won't pay enough attention.

I'm not saying it's rigged to any one person, like I said I benefitted from the crazy hands many times. To me full tilt feels more like playing poker in real life.

By cash games, you mean ring games not tournaments, right? Your idea about playing 3 or 4 tables at a time is a good idea. I'll try that.

What games do you guys play online? I play No Limit Hold 'Em exclusively. I love the strategy of it and have spent a lot of time trying to improve by studying it.

after you play with a group for a bit, you can get a feel for how they play....and as long as they stay on pattern it's easy enough. but yeah, you are really playing blind.

Good call, 81. You can definitely get a feel for tendencies, i.e. weak or strong. You can also make notes about players and if you end up playing with them again you can check the notes you made.

I don't know, I just accept it that it's online poker - it is what it is. It'll never feel like playing in a room in real life. Like I said, people who play cards are gamblers, and gamblers like every superstition involved with it. There just seems to be a ton of bad beats because you're playing triple the amount of hands you would play sitting around a table.

Games I like to play? Any and all. Big stud fan, but mostly play no limit hold em. But yeah, the best way to make any solid money online is to play 3 or 4 cash games at a time and play super tight. Pick your spots and draw as much cash out on a hand as possible. If that means slow playing, then do so.

Yeah, you're right it won't ever be just like real poker. The way the cards fall can be more like when you play a real game and I find full tilt to be more realistic. The argument about playing a lot more hands doesn't apply to me because I only play one tournament at a time.

That is, until this weekend when I am going to try your 3 to 4 cash game idea! Thanks again!

Nice. Like I said, just don't get too nuts. It's certainly a slippery slope I know all too well. Trust me on this.

But, yeah, tourneys are fun, and sit & go's, etc. But they're a waste of time for the amount of money you win. Do like .25/.50's or something.

Discipline - keep to a set strategy and don't come off it. What blinds are you playing?
