my buddy just got me into online poker last month and now i am hooked. i play at pokerstars... very addictive and you can play very small to very high stakes.
adding money is difficult since US laws prevent you from using MC/Visa/etc. But they have a feature that lets you enter information from your checking account and make deposits that way. totally safe/secure, it just takes a few days for the first one to clear.
I just googled a couple sites. I thought online gambling was illegal.?
Well, Waffle knows I'd never do anything illegal... But, no I don't play. However, I did hear Poker Face for the first time at a climbing gym last night. So, that's what the kids are listening to today?

Pokerstars and bodog have always been decent. But it is online poker, so it is what it is. Sportsbook.com isn't bad either.
If you're near an actual casino/poker room/club/underground game do that instead. Always much, much better. Online is good though to make some instant cash, but if you want to be a solid player, play in a room with 8, 9 other people.
Also, and this is coming from a guy that spent a shit load of hours/nights/days in the Borgata, and many other poker rooms, don't get hooked. Not worth it. Play as long as it's for fun.

i play on ftp from time to time. i would just avoid playing any ring games - too much collusion possibilities or probabilities...just takes away from the fun and whatnot. but the multitable tourneys are usually quite good. a lot of money to be made that way if you can stay disciplined (and sober lol)

I play Sit and Gos and if I get in the money, I move up a buy in (i.e. if I win a $2 buy in my next game will be $5, etc.). If I don't get in the money, I will go down.

play the small cash games, like $2-$10 buy ins. just try it out and see how you are when playing for real money. that's my advice as someone whose never played for real money. i'm sure others who have played for real money can offer better advice. me personally i stay away from real money just cause of the trappings/downfall of it.

totally agree 100% with this. i played pokerstars for a bit and i couldn't believe the high amount of bad beats. i actually think that site cheats somehow - honestly. it was crazy. i much prefer playing live games in casino's than online. i've pretty much stopped playing online at all now.

i thought that there was some kind of lawsuit alleging cheating on those sites but only vaguely recall. as i said above there were some crazy ass bad beats on poker stars. i mean the amount of ridiciously strongs hands winning on there seems out of whack with what i've encountered in live games.much higher percentage of monster hands in my opinion. as i stated i much prefer live games so i've pretty much stop online play.

Thanks. I actually have been playing for real money for awhile. I know what you mean about the downfalls of it and that's why I go down a buy in when I lose because I know I would be out of money if I didn't lol! I seem to be staying around the same bankroll (right around $300).

after you play with a group for a bit, you can get a feel for how they play....and as long as they stay on pattern it's easy enough. but yeah, you are really playing blind.

But, yeah, tourneys are fun, and sit & go's, etc. But they're a waste of time for the amount of money you win. Do like .25/.50's or something.
