Coachella 2k11

Internet's abuzz with hot hot hawt (sometimes completely bullshit) rumors.

Neil Young, Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, Bright Eyes, Animal Collective, Broken Social Scene, Queens of the Stone Age, Beastie Boys(?!), Interpol, Fleet Foxes, and, of course, the set by '______________' which is sure to go down in Coachella lore as "legendary".

Not one of these acts is confirmed yet; lineup in a coupla weeks. Ordered my early-bird, layaway ticket anyway. Anyone else going? Who would you like to see? I'd like to see the Strokes show up, for one. Pearl Jam, what the hell are you doing in April? I got something for you.

Great rumors, saw The Strokes at Lolla past summer and they were awesome. Too far away for me to make the trip, but maybe some year I'll make it there. Hope you have fun and a few of the bands you want to see are in the lineup.
I am lost, I'm no guide, but I'm by your side

Add KOL and No Doubt to the maybe column.

The 80s acts are gonna be OMD, Duran Duran and Wire.....hopefully Gary Numan too!

    PJ a likely 2012 headliner.

Just heard the lineup briefly teased on KROQ tonight. Stones.

Full lineup announced tomorrow at 5pm I believe.
  • killmoretroutkillmoretrout Burque, NM Posts: 162
Stones, huh. Heard them rumored to play & then not & then rumored again, asking price apparently an insane bounty and GV not buckling. So much for that.

    You hear any other names?

Arcade Fire's for sure. PJ Harvey. The Strokes supposed to be there, too.
  • kasedougkasedoug The Golden State Posts: 2,972
They played a real brief clip and the Stones was the only part I really distinctly recognized as I was watching the Laker game at the same time.

Heard those bands rumored as well. Other than that, I know the Black Keys have a show in AZ sometime around Coachella weekend. Haven't payed as much attention to lineup rumors as I have in years past since I was most likely going to pass this year in favor of PJ20 weekend. My partner in crime as far as concert going has the Stones near the top of the list of bands we still need to see that we haven't yet so it might happen after all.

    Cool, thanks.

Kanye's the latest, hot rumor and I could give 2 shits about that set. Can't wait for the 'big reveal' tomorrow.
  • I hope Soundgarden plays. With their laziness it'd probably my only chance to ever see them.

so many rumors......even the 5pm KROQ announcement was only a rumor!

Seems like Daft Punk is out, so perhaps KOL (yawn) will now be in, or maybe Caifanes, which would bring a great vibe!

O.M.D. is out, but B.A.D. is in.....that will be the third Coachella band for Mick Jones!

Other pretty much, almost-certain, 97%, 'definites':

Arcade Fire, Cut Copy, Bright Eyes, and PJ Harvey. The Coachella website has already played vids by Trentemøller, Lightning Bolt, Phantogram, Fanfarlo and Monarchy, so they're as 'for-sure' as anything we're gonna get right now. Mumfy & Sons also apparently confirmed today, according to 'the internet'. So far, so good.

Hope they pull off Daft Punk, but heard/read the same as you, Joe^3.

PS- read today that Numan is in this year. Was supposed to play last year, but was smoked out (via the volcano), so that choice makes sense.

Lineup is out on coachella.com. No Stones. So much for KROQ's tease last night.

Initially, I was a little underwhelmed when KROQ named off 15-20 acts on the radio tonight but I'm coming around to it now that the whole thing is out.

Lots of killer undercards. Saturday is gonna crush.

Arcade Fire blew my mind when I saw em there a few years back. The other two 'main events' I could give 2 shits about.

    Great lineup, sez me.

    ATTENTION CANADIANS!!!

.. cause you're more likely to grasp the significance of this...

So when/if you goto www.coachella.com you'll find the official 2011 Lineup. It allows you to enlarge a poster of the lineup.

Now when these festivals come out.. I always like to know who's playing.. but I also ALWAYS check the small print... or lesser known artists....

And I almost died laughing when I checked the VERY bottom in the SMALLEST print...

Now for you Americans and other nationalities here... Gord Downie IS the Canadian equivalent of Eddie Vedder. He is a champion. A legend. .... cannot say enough about him as a writer, singer, and ENTERTAINER!

Kills me that he's on the bottom. But sometime I like that he's Canada's best kept secret. :)

    Some surprises:

    Suede
    Lauryn Hill
Jimmy Eat World (seems out of place...same with Aquabats)

Very low billing for big bands:

    Elbow
    Swell Season
Caifanes (this is a HUGE event for their genre)
    Flogging Molly
    Gogol bordello

    Very high billing:

    Mumford and sons
    Animal Collective
    Robyn

Yeah, pleasantly. Seems they always have a big reunion or two. This one should be a doozy.

to be honest, i'm not really impressed with this line-up. it seems like arcade fire, kanye, and kings of leon headlined a lot of the festivals last year. don't see much difference between this and others...

Arcade Fire's a great headliner. Could give a shit about Kanye/Leon Kings. The undercards are pretty jam-packed, though. Friday and especially Saturday.

Would've loved a Neil Young/Blur/Daft Punk/REM or some other 'holy shit!' band at the top, but I think it's pretty solid.

But Arcade Fire might be the best live band on the planet right now...

Anyone going to this should make it a point to see death from above 1979! Probably be the only time you'll have the chance. They are incredible live.
  • killmoretroutkillmoretrout Burque, NM Posts: 162
^ agreed w/ the last 2 posts. Never had the pleasure with DFA1979, so I'm stoked for that. Are they back together, or is this just a one-off thing? And saw Arcade Fire @ Coachella a few years back after 'Funeral' and they fucking blew me away.

Definitely think it's a soft class of headliners by Coachella standards, but the sub-headliners (Strokes, Broken Social Scene, Black Keys, Bright Eyes, AnCo) are really solid, and the pre-sunset 'undercard' is loaded. And that's to make no mention of Mumfy & Sons. They're phenomenal live & should just murder a setting like this. Excited.

PS - congrats 'kasedoug'... nice haul.

I'm pretty sure dfa1979 is a one off as the two of them despise one another and are both in other bands. In a way it makes me want to go and if i did i wouldn't see a single headliner. I've seen both kol and arcade fire at red rocks and wasn't impressed. No desire to see kanye. Love the black keys but i'm thinking this may be the year to miss them, it seems like there the biggest thing going right now as if fans don't realize they've been around the past ten years. I dig the new album but love their straightforward blues rock a lot more.
  • killmoretroutkillmoretrout Burque, NM Posts: 162
I own and mostly like the Leon Kings first 2 albums, but IMO they're gone to shit the last 3. No desire. Same with Kanye 10.0.

I'll see the Black Keys depending on the lineup & set times. If no one more compelling is happening opposite them, I'll have a look-see. Never seen em live. You?
