fear of immigrants, gays, terrorists, hell. it affects everything, domestic policy, foreign.
left wing mentality, true leftists, see that if you treat people the way they you would want to be treated, you have nothing to fear.
there is a reason terrorists leave canada alone. right wing canadian politicians are still farther left than most any US politician.
this is exactly what I was afraid of, and that is the melding together of religious fundamentalist thinking with conservative fiscal policy and calling it all conservative.
I really wish they would have a different moniker so that someone who does not care about any of those things and certainly isn't afraid of any of them isn't painted with that brush. Or maybe I can start one for people who only want to be left alone by the government when it comes to day to day life stuff, a government that does not promote war and keep debt, and allows people to make choices, even ones that may harm them some day like eating trans fats.
Anyone got any ideas what we can be called?
the entire post was about the mentality behind foreign policy, and given the entire tea parties' belief that a strong military (support r troops), and modern republicans, and past republicans, its not inaccurate.
there is almost no distniction between the fiscal conservative mentality of cutting taxes and taking over the world and christian love thy neighbor take over the world beliefs.
ron paul may be the exception. i'd actually vote for that guy.0 -
you can either inform people about what's wrong with things, or see things like the tea party movement, which favors no taxes and and a balanced the budget. the wrong solution to a very real problem.0

Conservative thinking is pretty good, I think. But all things in moderation. A good blend of understanding and community (from the left) and self reliance and independence (from the right) doesn't sound so bad to me at all."First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win ."

Not at all - but it seems to me as if current politicians are hell-bent on making everything an Us vs Them issue. There's no sense of compromise in D.C., and that's trickling down to the people via the news networks. And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.0 -

Excellent point, cajun. We are zombies who cannot think for ourselves; we need the talking heads to tell us the "truth."0
