Byron Bluesfest would suit an Ed solo show much more than the Big Day Out would, so that would mean a late April / early May tour with him kicking off at Bluesfest.

The st kilda festival is pretty cool actually. lots of music, arts etc..pretty much block Acland street off, and they have a stage on the beach.. pretty cool, although i haven't been in a few yrs... If Ed were to play, that woul change in less than a second!!!
If he is coming to Oz/NZ I doubt it will be for a festival. But Blues Fest would definitely suit him better than BDO.
