The last half of the season has turned out better than I thought. It's been some time since the championship has come down to the last race.

as I said, I don’t follow F1, but just now watching some youtubes of mclaren’s “papaya rules” gave me a chuckle.

Eh. Not the best race. And the third best driver won the title. Great for the UK that you have a champ. I know that is a good thing. Sell more tea, marmalade, and branston pickle. I am kidding of course, but I think Max demonstrated again that he is the best driver in F1. Looking forward to next season as I always do. Audi and Cadillac should make it interesting.

Agreed, but he won in the end, so congratulations Lando. Glad a couple of drivers were in contention down to the last race.

I am hoping Piastri wins next year. Should be interesting with all the changes with the cars.

F1 will really have to reconsider some tracks with the added cars.  Can Monaco get any worse....

Monaco is what it is. Gorgeous place with gorgeous cars going in circles. I do not love it or hate it. I think you are right that some tracks like Baku and Singapore might be a problem with more cars. I just hope Caddy is competitive and not at the back of the field.

They look a bit smaller and lower, but not that different. I have not really explored the new formula.

    Alpine
    Ferrari

That lighter shade of red on the Ferrari this year has them looking a bit Haasish.

No they don't look that much different at first glance.
Sounds like there are some engine loopholes being exploited already though, the squabbling has already begun.
Edit: looks like they're getting "interpretive" with the diffuser regs too lol

I guess the changes are mostly related to the power unit. Not loving the white on the Ferrari car and kit :). The Audi looks cool though.

Less than a month away! Cars look nice! The Cadillac livery is interesting. It's like Raiders colors!

I need to figure out this Apple TV thing as It looks they just raised the price to stream a race weekend. Last year it was $79.99 for 12 months, and the coverage was very good. Now it looks like I have to sign up for the Apple TV app for $12.99 a month? I loved being able to sign in to F1 TV and tune to all of the events over a race weekend. I need to figure it out.

Ok, so in the US, you need an Apple TV subscription to watch the Grand Prix weekend. $12.99 a month. Not too bad but double what the F1TV subscription was in 2025. F1 is now pay per view here in the US, meaning you cannot watch live without a paid subscription. There will be no network or cable broadcasts.

Once you have an Apple TV subscription, you can sign into F1TV using your Apple ID and then have a choice of which streaming service to watch. I guess many US fans already have Apple TV, but it seems like an odd strategy when Liberty is trying to grow the US fanbase.

The new cars appear to be much slower than the 2025 cars as lap times in Bahrain were 4-6 seconds slower than 2025 lap times. That is a huge drop off.  There are changes to the dimensions, engines and aero. The front wing is now adjustable and it appears that there is no DRS zone and the drivers can open and close both the front and rear wings while racing.  I will watch the tests this week and see how the lap times compare.

There's a good article in The Atlantic on the changes for 2026.

Talks about how the ground effects creating all the downforce have been ditched.

"The FIA — F1’s governing body, which oversees technical matters — has estimated a drop in downforce of between 20 and 25 percent on the cars from 2025 to 2026. That means the cars will be slower in some corners — particularly high-speed ones where ground effect is especially powerful. But this means some corners, such as Eau Rouge and Raidillon at Spa, or 130R at Suzuka, may now become more challenging for drivers."

I saw that. It is a good read. Seems like the drivers will need to be more active in the cockpit to manage the downforce. The cars are noticeably smaller. I generally like when F1 mixes it up. We shall see. Lots of positive feedback on the Red Bull powertrain.
