"God will punish you!" (She was not happy when I questioned her authority...."How do you know there is a 'god' when you don't go to church?")
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
Now my mom is 5 foot tall, Japanese and back in the day I was a handful. I came home one night nearly dead from drinking (I was 16). Puke and blood all over me (fifth of Southern Comfort and I weighed about 120 lbs). Passed out on the Porch where my mom found me and dragged me into the living room. Next morning she asks what happened. After my story she just looks at me and says the above quote. Now I did not grow up in a "normal" family setting but I still remember those words fondly
If you have a chance to make life better for others, and fail to do so, you are wasting your time on this earth.

Just to be clear I wasn't actually abused. I miss my mom, she had such a great sense of humour.

It could be meat, potatoes, spinach, she'd say that about anything. And I'm female, so that was a little strange, too.

" I'll bang your heads together"
" I'll bounce you off every wall in the house"
" I'll mop the floor with you"
" I'll skin you alive!!!!!!"
That last one was awesome because we believed her :? .
My Mum WAS awesome, God rest her soul.
I'm yet to bang my kids heads together, but now I get her point :?

your mother said those words?
are you telling us that your very own mother invented those two little sayings?

What do you think, money grows on trees?
You'd forget your head if it wasn't attached to your shoulders!
If you could stay out last night, you can get up this morning.
Turn the lights off when you leave the room...this place looks like a cheese factory!
Heard all of these as a kid .... and unfortunately have found myself saying them too
