It's a bit weird to me that lack of government oversight is what you cite as being the reason these bad mortgages were allowed when in actuality it was because of government regulation that these bad mortgages were incentivized to begin with. The mid 90's legislation that banks be required to lower their standards regarding loan practices was more conducive to the bad mortgage fiasco than anything else, let alone a "lack" of oversight.
It's fair point you make. On one hand, the government lowered the standards, and on the other hand, government paid no attention to the standards that were kept...
For example (from http://themillercircle.org/2010/10/the- ... ge-crisis/): "But recently, we have learned that many foreclosures have been done illegally and it is the attorneys general of many states who are now declaring that during the sub-prime fiasco, mortgages were bundled up, diced sliced and otherwise contorted through acts of complete illegality, often without a notarized copy of the signature of the mortgagee at the time of sale, something that is required by law in many or most states. While the Bank of America has stopped doing mortgage foreclosures throughout the country, referring to their problem as “flawed paperwork,” Ralph Nader has no problem referring to it as “fraudulently executed contracts.”" I also heard on NPR that many signatures that were notarized, were done so en masse in offices miles away from where they were signed, which, of course, defeats the whole purpose. So what does this mean, did anyone ever read any of these mortgages? Did they sign one and have another one notarized? What a fucking mess.0 -

Not saying that's right, but if you can't tell the truth, what does that say about you?
I'm sorry... he stepped down on her head and shoulders with deliberate force. We cool now?
You simply cannot watch that video and claim that he stepped on her head.
In any case, he still was wrong to do what he did, but why do people have to exaggerate it?

I agree. It disgusts me that our political process has basically become two sides lying about the bad things the other side has done.
If I had the resources, I'd run for office and REFUSE to speak one word about my opponent. The only people we should try to get even with...
