Do you like The Vic poster?

The Vic was such an amazing night...the best...but I hate how the poster has a political message all over it. I have matted and framed a bunch of my pearl jam posters...by myself...learned to matte which is a cool ass hobbie...but I haven't done the Vic cuz I just don't like the poster really.

What do you guys think of it. Should I frame that bitch?

Here are all my other posters that I have framed and matted myself. It is a super cool craft to learn. I loved every minute of it and now have a great skill I can use for the rest of my life.

I'd love to know what you think...

    Yes.....YES I WILL.

    Thank you OK.
  • I like the poster, both prints of it. I don't understand why people say they "Love everything Pearl Jam" and then are rubbed wrong way when they discuss politics. PJ has alot of poster more political that the VIC.

I think Brad did great job on poster!!!

Hahaha. Now that is a fucking great response.

I think that you should burn the poster in effigy and post the video on this message forum.

If you don't want and don't want to sell it I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands...

I was at the show and was unable to attain the poster. I have a poster from every show I have been to except the Vic and Boston II 04
    32 shows and counting...

flippings not cool... but when people are willing to pay what they are for what i consider to be very ugly art then they deserve to get burned

cool glittery ink... thats about all the praise i can give it... the font, colors, composition, subject matter, and all other formal aspects are dreadful

Wasn't at the show... tried to get in... didn't... broke my heart... still think the poster is great though. I don't own it, because I only buy posters from some of the shows that I've been to. But I still like it, for the style, design, and actual content.

I have to agree with those who said that there have been a lot more politically-charged posters than that one. The one with the boxer delivering a knockout punch next to the gas pump comes to mind. The trio of monsters that arose from the Chicago I '06, Albany '06, and Lollapalooza '07 posters were awfully political as well. Then you've got the Vote For Change Neocons, and the list goes on and on.

  • I've got an extra if anyone's interested. I took my sis to the show and we both purchased one. I'd taken her to a few shows in the past and she was never interested in the posters before, so I was a bit confused. Turns out she framed the one she bought and gave it to me as a Christmas gift!

Long story short, I've got an unframed mint condition poster just sitting in my closet (brown variety, not S/N). I'd be more than happy to trade for something equivalent. Send me a message if you're interested (no cash). I'd love it to go to a PJ fan.

What is the politcal message? That corporations polute? I didn't think it was super political.

As for the poster itself, I would rank it a 6 or 7 on a scale of 1 - 10. Not bad, but not great. I felt it did not measure up to the show it self (like Santa Barbara 03). Still, not a bad poster.

  • I'm a HUGE Brad Klausen fan but I don't think the poster is his best. I like the devil detail a lot but there are other posters he made with that color palette that I think are much better (Eagles of Death Metal, Widespread Panic). The purple variant makes it pop a bit more, imo.
    Why go home?
  • Yeah, kind of disappointing. I really don't get the political message to be honest with you. I like it except for the large Brown area that is a top hat or something. The gears and lettering are sweet. Just average imo.

Dont let politics get in the way of your hobby. If you are too rich to sell it frame it and give it to me. I have this poster sitting in my basement waiting for a good fortune to come my way to frame it.

I stopped buying posters since they only sit in tubes.

Great and interesting responses from all of you. Thank you for the input.

Well...I'm not that rich. But no I won't sell a keepsake... especially from that great night.

So...I mentioned that I have been matting and framing my own posters. After reading all of this I am going to frame the Vic too.

BUT...I wanted to shed some light on ya'll. I have been very successfully framing all of my own stuff. I have gotten great pride out of learning how to matte. I bought a matte cutter and spent a bunch of time in front of the TV framing everything that has been sitting around for years. I'm excited to share these photos with you. And I will share the vic too when I get it done.

Where did you start? From what I have heard it is not easy and could still cost a lot for cutters, material etc.

Well, flipping got you out of a couple financial binds... so I'd say you should think it's pretty fuckin' cool. :) I don't fault you at all for selling the posters (you bought 'em and they're yours to do with as you please)... but you can't talk out of both sides of your mouth.

As far as the Vic poster goes, I didn't even bother with trying to get one that night. It was such a complete clusterfuck that night inside the lobby with everyone trying to get a wristband that there was no poster on Earth cool enough to subject myself to that throng of crazies...

Pics are up. I matted and framed them all myself.

It's easier than the framing store tells you it will be. Just takes precision measurements and time.

I had a blast doing it and I take a lot of pride out of the color choices I made and the craftsmanship that goes into it.

I'm happy to share how I did it.

The matte cutter was about 80 bucks at Aaron Bros. I think i got it on sale.

They have sales ALL THE TIME.

Then I bought pre made frames that were as close to the print size as possible...with some border of course.

Then you choose the mattes that go best with your poster. They have many good looking mattes for $11 a pop.

Then go home and get to work.

Its fun and very rewarding. I would stare at my work when I would finish one up for a long time.

It did cost a few bucks to get off the ground but compared to what you pay for professional matting and framing... approx 200+ per it was a friggin steal.

Plus I was doing so many posters that it was a total bargain.

Now I am matting things for people for gifts and helping out friends and am even having the opportunity to make some money on the side doing it for people.
