nice win against The Vols today
Tough loss today. But I think I already like this year's squad better than the last couple. Dixon getting a lot of playing time will help them. I like his toughness.

Shocked Jay hasn’t used the young guys at all against UCLA and Purdue. They looked gassed at the end if the game today

I guess it might as well just be the Villanova thread.

Looks like another lousy Temple team.

it would have to have a lot more obnoxious people to be a nova board.

Temple football is killing their basketball program.  I know they get good money from the AAC for football but sucks to see what it is doing to the bball program.

My Hawks are better but a terrible loss to Monmouth to push them to 2-2 and that was the easy part of the schedule.  Firing Phil was 100% the right move but the Lange hire is still looking iffy.  Lots of things are better but the on court results just aren't there for Lange.  Supposedly only got a 4 year deal so this is a big year for him.

Yeah Temple had a huge road win at Vanderbilt the other night. They slowly collapsed away their 10 point lead in the 2nd half, with Vanderbilt tying it on a buzzer beater 3 pointer, then fell down by 5 in OT. They came back and won it - so gutsy. Maybe we can compete a little this year.

I thought Temple would be in trouble when Battle when out for the year but really nice effort the last few games without him.  My Hawks get them on Saturday at Hagan. Haven't seen Temple yet so have no feeling on the game.  Imagine Temple will be a few point favorite.  Hawks are definitely better this year but they just go through stretches where they can't make shots.  Hall dominated Penn last night and was 8-10 from 3 so imagine he will be laying bricks against Temple. We actually have a decent big man this year. Obinna Ekize has been a really nice addition. Transfer from Vandy and has been better than expected.

Johnny how has the mask thing going at Temple games?  Supposed to wear them at the Hawks games but no one really does. Last night was the 1st time security said anything to us. We wear them into the game but once we get to our seats take them off like everyone else.  Very few people have been wearing them during the games although the last 2 games the students have been wearing them.  They must be cracking down on the students.  I'd say about 80% of the adults don't wear them during the games. I'm ok with that at this point.
  • Johnny AbruzzoJohnny Abruzzo Philly Posts: 11,714
Yeah hardly anyone wore masks. I deferred three games while we were all getting boosted/vaxxed. Now I'm happy to expose myself so my body keeps making antibodies. Not exactly the government's advice but come on - let's go.

The level of success Nova has had over the last twenty years is unreal to me. I have to pinch myself sometimes. The fans now expect this year after year. My brother was saying last night he's not satisfied unless they win the championship. We argued about that. It's obviously a ridiculous way to grade a season, especially with this year's team, but it's so many years of dominant basketball that leads people to think that way. To me, getting to the Elite Eight is already a great season and about where I hoped they'd be coming into the season.

It's just such an incredibly long way from where they were before Jay got there. Year after year of disappointment with Steve Lappas in the 90's conditioned us to be scared of teams like Old Dominion in the early rounds. lol. Now they're one win away from a 6th Final Four and few wins way from a 4th title. Doesn't seem real.

Houston's gonna be real tough though. Nova 2 point dogs last I checked.

Hard to believe in any type of God that would allow the two biggest asshole fan bases in college hoops (Duke and Nova) to be the most successful programs on this century so far. God help us all if nova wins another title.

It's kinda BS that pretty much anyone around here who didn't go to a Big 5 school just roots for Nova but I'd still rather them over Kansas or Duke or whoever. It's not Nova's fault that the other 4 teams suck. Well actually it is since they engineered the royal screwing over of Temple. But anyway...

I'd be willing to bet there are about as many Nova haters who didn't go to a Big 5 school as there are Nova fans. It's always the same story when Nova has this kind of success---are they a Philly team or aren't they? So dumb. The same people who say Kobe Bryant was a Philly guy and Mike Trout's a Philly guy dispute whether not Nova's a Philly school? Lol.

Also--didn't Temple originally turn the Big East down? Paterno was trying to form an East Coast super league around the same time and I thought Temple believed they'd do that instead. Then when that didn't work out they tried to get into the Big East years later and Nova did what they could to prevent it, obviously. If the shoe was on the other foot, I'd bet Temple would to the same thing.

I’ve never understood the notion that the fans of other schools in Philly should cheer for nova.   Duke doesn’t cheer for Carolina and Purdue doesn’t cheer for Indiana.

I’m pretty shocked.  Even though I am a nova hater always respected the heck out if Jay.  Great guy and the best Big 5 coach ever.  He has had an incredible run.  Hope it’s not health and just thinks it’s time.
