Someone sent this to me do you guys know anything about it ?

Godfather.

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form
all guns that you have or own. It will require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per
gun. This bill was introduced on February 24, 2009, by the Obama staff. BUT,
this bill will only become public knowledge 30 days after the new law becomes
effective! This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means
that the Finance Committee has passed this without the Senate voting on it at
all. Trust Obama? You must be kidding!
> The full text of the IRS amendment is on the U.S. Senate homepage:
www.senate.gov. You can find the bill by doing a search by the bill number,
SB-2099. You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do.
> Please send a copy of this e-mail to every gun owner you know.
> Text of H.R.45 as Introduced in House: Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and
Record of Sale Act of 2009: www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/text
> Obama's Congress is now starting on the firearms confiscation bill. If it
passes, gun owners will become criminals if you don't fully comply.

You know, Godfather, one of these days you're going to look up the things you post before you post them. If you'd done that this time, you'd see that SB-2099 is about heaters, not guns. The Senate website actually mentions SB-2099 in the page it set up to debunk urban myths. Urbanlegends.com even has an entire page devoted to it, and points out that the email originated in 2000. Even the NRA debunked the story.

As for the Blair Holt one, it was referred to a House subcommittee, and since it doesn't have a single co-sponsor, it isn't going to be voted on. The NRA doesn't care about that one either. Personally, I at least think the Blair Holt one is a good idea... I fail to see anything wrong with making gun owners register their guns, prove they can keep them out of the reach of kids, and let the cops know if a gun is ever stolen. I assume some people are pissed that they'd have to provide fingerprints to the police... to which, to paraphrase a common argument I hear all the time from the anti-illegal immigration crowd when it comes to the topic of ID papers, I ask, "If you aren't doing anything wrong, then what do you have to worry about?"

What is it with conspiracy theorists and their complete unwillingness to look stuff up?
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

and he said to report it on the 2009 1040 form...if that were true, shouldn't that have been reported by april 15, 2010????

No worries. Usually my bullshit detector starts going off as soon as I receive any kind of political email forward - snopes.com and I spend a lot of quality time together.

My personal favorite was an email I received before the last election from a particularly right wing friend of my father-in-law, outlining all of the reasons people shouldn't vote for Obama. The reasons were all about how he was born in Africa and was raised in a militant Muslim extremist environment - in other words, things that could be debunked in about two minutes. I sent it back to her, and went through it line by line pointing out every single one of the inaccuracies. She replied by saying that it was still something worth considering.

And people wonder why "the race card" gets played...
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

why should we have to do that ? if a person has a criminal history thats one thing but average Joe citizen should not be forced to register their gun.

We are 'forced' to register many things.. cars, boats, motorcycles..
I assume it is to help prevent the wrong people from getting a hold of a gun. (And a registration fee will probably give govt more revenue.)

one of my biggest gripe are the fees...for everything, sense the 60's or 70's America has gotten more fees and less industry (out-sourcing) in the 60's America made 90% of the electronics in the world and now we have shit but a heck of a lot more fees and the door is still open for cooperate greed to kill the American dream..
did I post that out loud. :D but anyway back to the gun re-issue.

that is what is so infuriating about all these idiot e-mail forwards and blog posts/comments (from both sides)... people can be given hard facts to dispute it, and those who believe it will still believe it.

There is a quote I heard recently (and I forget who said it or the exact quote), but it was something like "facts have no place in an emotional argument", and that is so true when it comes to politics.

i dunno i think you should have to register things like guns, cars, etc. before someone commits a crime there an average joe, so an average joe with a gun would probably have as much a chance to commit a crime as a convict

I might agree with you on the registration thing but most crime are not committed with registered guns
most criminals use stolen guns with filed off numbers.

but exactly, if they where registered you could report them and if they where involved in a crime it would be easier to find out who it was

Why can't I smoke pot legally?
Why can't I grow pot in my home?

Being part of a social system means doing things that you don't want to do for the betterment of society - even if we think that we are above the "rules." I agree that most crimes involve unregistered guns used by deviants and the scum of the earth, but sometimes registered guns fall into the hands of these scum. If a registered gun is stolen and used in a crime, wouldn't it be easier - since it is registered - to possibly find the criminal?

    Just some quick thoughts.

    Mine too.

    Screw them and their fees.

I bought a car private party from California, paid to ship it to Illinois, and had to pay the state over $1k for taxes even though the state didn't do shit to help.

Well the state screwed up the title and said I had to pay to get it fixed. I told them to stick it.

I'm guessing I'll get a letter saying my license will be suspended but I'll pay $1000 to my attorney before I pay the state another $100.

If any one know the very basics of the Constitution... they would know that Presidential staff cannot draft Senate Bills.
Where were all odf these people during their high school government classes?

Just so it wouldn't come back at me.

Many gun rights groups are saying the new Health Care law can effectively ban an individual from owning a gun. Admittedly I have not read the entire bill and I am searching for more information on this. However, the thought is that if a person had sought the help of a shrink at some point that it could be enough to say that they are mentally unfit for gun ownership.

Are there any unbiased FACTS that anyone has seen on this? I'm going to look for more.

What would you think about a UN Treaty signed by ANY US politician, from ANY party, that ultimately was viewed as un-Constitutional but seemed like a good idea to said ANY politician?

Please, speak of specifics so I can check it.
But, regarding the U.N... No, the U.N. is not specifically mentioned in the Constitution, but the President has the Power to make Treaties on Advice and Consent of the Senate as long as a minimum of two thirds of the Senators agree.
    ...
So, if you think *ANY* politician can make a treaty... like the school superintendent of Lompoc, CA. (who is a politician). Then, you really need to learn about our nation from educators, instead of Glenn Beck.

We don't owe the UN anything. When they prove their worth and their peacekeepers stop being convicted of rape, maybe I'll take them seriously.
