I thought the problem wasn't mexico, as a whole (tourist wise) but the border towns in general...
I'm pretty sure you can go to your all inclusive in Cancun and feel perfectly safe.
    I'd think differently about Tijijuana...

And its nothing new, Central America has always been a dangerous place, if you go to the wrong areas...

My brother got married in Tulum, just south of Cancun, in one of the all-inclusive places this time last year. It was freakin' awesome! And we felt safe.

I was thinking the same thing. Murders, kidnapping, beatings, rapes....I can't believe anyone would want to go to the US. Mexico is more appealing.

She was wrong because she said they were finding all kinds of beheaded bodies in the desert in Arizona and that was a flat out lie. Not one headless body has been found in that area.

thank you. that was exactly what i was getting at. and she has been asked several times to clarify or retract her statement and she refuses to do so..

That's why you won't find my ass in Mexico. Not because of immigration... or american business men shipping jobs over there... or NAFTA.... but, because I don't want to get kidnapped and i kinda like my head attached to my body.

Doesn't this shit only happen in the North of Mexico though? A friend of mine traveled south from Mexico City last year and had a great time.

I miss Mexico.... I haven't been down there in a few years now..... I love it! I've driven from tijuana all the way to Jalisco and have never had any issues.

I've traveled many times (sometimes alone) through Sonora(boarder town) and have never had any problems. I don't look like a local either. I've usually taken my car (with CA plates) and have never had any trouble.
It's all about being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or people who are involved in shady business that get caught up in all those killings.

The general people are usually very welcoming and friendly.

I think I'd be more scared to drive through South Central then I would be to drive through a boarder town in Mexico.... :o

Yeah, that's what I was saying.
They issued a travel advisory a while back for border towns.
I can understand if you don't want to go to Tijuana but I'm not going to stop vacationing in an entire country because of violence in one part.

You are correct. The problem areas are generally in the northern part of the country where the drug cartels are fighting each other over drug smuggling routes into the USA. Mayors, police chiefs, and prosecutors have been routinely murdered in these areas recently. The Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, and Jaurez areas along the Texas border have been very bad for the last year or two and the violence has now even gone down to Monterrey. We're talking car bombings, grenade attacks on police stations, news paper and news stations being bombed, reporters being killed for no reason, daily and nightly gun battles in neigborhoods (these can even be found on youtube) It's BAD!
