I'm sorry but every PJ show I have seen has ALWAYS ended with Rocking in the Free World. I know this song is as much theres as it is Uncle Niel's but I would like to see a different show closer than this.... or Baba O'Riely or Yellow Ledbetter.

So my question to all you fine people out there is... In '09 what song would you most like to hear these fine 5 men end a show with?

Just dawned on me that I didnt say what I would like to see as a show closer.

Sonic Reducer has always been my favorite PJ cover. Would love to hear it close a show. Oh, and it's not 5 men, it's 6...ya can't forget BOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM.

Honestly, with being a big fan of The Who, I would really like to see them play 'The Real Me' a little bit more, but I'm not sure how good of a 'closing' song that would be.
    7/2/06 - Denver, CO
    6/12/08 - Tampa, FL
    8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
9/28/09 - Salt Lake City, UT (11 years too long!!!)
    9/03/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 1
    9/04/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 2
  • I hope they don't retire any of those songs completely... maybe just lay off them some.

If I were to nit-pick I'd also ask them to lay off covers all together... maybe do one per show or something. It seems lately that the majority of the 2nd encore is usually covers while some perfecty fine originals get forgotten about.

In short, I don't care what they play as long as they mix it up some and try to stick to originals
  • If you have never seen them close a show with Yellow Ledbetter- I really think you need to go to more shows!

well, there's no guarantee that they'll even tour in '09, but if they do, i don't care what they close with--i'll be happy enough just to see some shows.

Yeah, I wish they would mix up the closing songs a bit more at times. Although, that said, hearing YL at the end of a particularly great show is like having a cigarette after great sex...

i say you were just unlucky. i've seen the boys twice and the closers were ledbetter and indifference. i'm not a fan of "retiring" songs, but i guess i would be ok with playing ritfw less.

as for closers, indifference is a fuckin great one (although it would be much better if we actually could hear the bass in wembley), but i say it's about time to make DIRTY FRANK the official show closer of the next tour :D

  • I just wonder why it's picked to close so many dvd's. It was used in tb2k, then again for immagine in cornie. They also closed Lollapalooza with it.

They better tour in 09. It is their duty as our favorite band. I don't know how much longer I can go with out seeing them. VH1 Rock Honors was such a tease...
An incredibly awesome tease followed by THE WHO!!!!! :D

I think All or None would be a great closer with an incredible Mike solo that just leaves the place in an uproar. Or Alive is always a great choice. :)

  • I haven't read any of the responses, but knew from the title, I'd agree with the original post. I get tired of hearing YL, RITFW and Baba also. I also get tired of drawn-out versions of Alive and RVM being frequent first set closers... And while we're at it, it's predictable that you'll hear Corduroy as one of the first three songs too.

So, I won't pick a specific song to choose as a closer. I'll just say anything would do, and that I wish they'd be a bit more imaginative with the setlists overall.

But at the end of the day, I'll still keep going to see them, even if they don't change a thing. :)

Compared to say 1995 the song seems tired, the best version is Melb 95 with Dave Grohl on drums. It was a time when they were white hot live & Dave gave it the edge with his drumming, but now with Boom adding keyboards it just doesn't seem right, also with songs such as Alive & Deep, the older songs should just be the band. I would like to hear studio versions of all the covers they play, who else is up for that?

I would not be surprised to see Pearl Jam at some point release a covers album. Cat Power has two really good albums of covers, as well as Patti Smith....
