I picked it up expecting something pretty average, but as a huge live fan had to have it

Well, after a few spins, gotta say i love it, a huge improvement on the last few Live records.....the lyrics are a bit miss here and there (Ed's become some spiritual guru over the recent years), but on the whole its a solid listen.....gutted i missed his recent Uk solo date!!!

    I haven't heard it.

This is the only review i've seen so far:

    uh oh :?
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

    Judge for yourself

Reviews are subjective.... I still recall Q mag giving advocado 1 star and dismissing it as shite

    I haven't heard it.

they weren't too far off :)

but yeah, it's clear this reveiewer didn't want to like it. I'll check it out at some point.
He sort of rubs me wrong though. Kind of in a Daughtry, Aaron Lewis way

I thought I heard they are definitely broken up. The rest of the band is now in The Gracious Few with the old Candlebox lead singer.

I saw a note from one of the band members on the old Live website that basically said Ed was an ass and out for only himself so the band was done.

  • yep, here it is:

But the circumstances surrounding their split are surprisingly more dramatic (and kinda humorous) than just some band’s drawn-out fade from the spotlight. According to Live guitarist Chad Taylor, frontman Ed Kowalczyk signed a secret publishing contract in 2005 — ostensibly to shut the rest of the band out of royalties or whatever money was to come their way. And on top of that, Kowalczyk apparently demanded “a $100,000 ‘lead singer bonus’” for Live to play this year’s Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands. That, apparently, was the last straw. Says Taylor, “In light of these matter, I can’t ever see myself working with Ed, let alone ever being in the same room with him. LIVE was always about the band, when Ed lost sight of that in favor of his own ambitions and goals, our considerable fans base began to sigh a collective yawn.”

  • here's the whole blog post from Chad Taylor:

Taylor’s whole blog post after the jump.

There have been tons of crazy rumors surrounding the hiatus of LIVE. I have read quite a few and laughed at the extremely creative imaginations of our fans. I’ve been reluctant to fan the flames but the rumors are getting further away from the truth and I will try to set the record straight from my standpoint.

First and foremost, Ed has every legal right to perform the songs he helped birth while being the front man for LIVE. The copyrights for these songs are owned by Chad Gracey, Patrick Dahlheimer, Ed Kowlalczyk and myself. Ed does not control the catalog but rather the bands publishing company, Black Coffee Publishing, Inc. Black Coffee is a majority rule corporation.

Yes, it is true, there was a hidden publishing contract signed in 2005. I personally discovered it via a communication breakdown. Ed is listed as the only signature. When I wrote him to find some resolution to the situation, he failed to respond. I have left these matters to our attorneys who will no doubt file a complaint. Honestly, I don’t care about the financial/legal outcome of these matters, the proof is on the page. Ed was able to stab his three best friends from middle school in the back. This act was far down the line from typical rock star ego. As you can imagine I am deeply hurt and wounded.

In light of these matter, I can’t ever see myself working with Ed, let alone ever being in the same room with him. LIVE was always about the band, when Ed lost sight of that in favor of his own ambitions and goals, our considerable fans base began to sigh a collective yawn.

As band mates and friends and despite the lack of fresh material we continued to support Ed with all of our integrity. The final blow was Ed’s request for a $100,000 “lead singer bonus” to perform as surprise guests at this years Pink Pop Festival. I was informed of his request by our management and politely told them to “fuck off.”

Ed will no longer be the vocalist for the band LIVE. At this point in time, we have made no official plans to replace him but it is clear that he is no friend of mine or the lifelong fans of LIVE.

I have focused my energy on creating new music with The Gracious Few. I look forward to seeing many LIVE fans in the audience at our shows. Patrick, Chad and I have made a pledge to honor our long shared history with the fans of LIVE. You will always be graciously welcome in our house.

    Love

His new album is awesome can't wait for him to come to Adelaide in a few weeks .as far as Chad talor is concerned good luck I meet the band in Melbourne one year and the only one that seemed to have a rock star ego was him he came out for like two minutes to meet the fans and he was up himself.. Lol then he posted a blog on the website that was weird and was about how he was loosing it and then it was quickly removed .
    So anyway rock on Ed

The murky world of the rock star eh?

Ive learned over time to accept and embrace the two sides to every coin argument......Sure Ed has acted strangely here but im sure there is more to it.

What i maintain is the new Ed album is brilliant.....Im really diggin it, and if Chad needs to air his laundry in public thats his choice.....you have to respect him a little for actually addressing the rumours....personally it seems he went too far in what he said......

When its all said and done, the frontman often gives the band that unique sound, most people connect with a frontman first and to that extent, Ed is live.......live cannot survive without him.....but Im sure Ed will do quite alright on his own....after all he;s a bit of a creative genius isnt he? Throwing Copper remains one of the finest records of the 90's

I found the exact opposite. Met the band when they did a show at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Most of the band were great and just were hanging out with fans after the show. Ed was the only diva in the group, said "Hi" but very uninterested in it all.

Ed solo blew me away at a festival last month. First time seeing him, never saw Live in concert. I don't know every Live song, so I can't remember which songs were Live and which were Ed solo's new stuff. I really liked him. So did my husband, we thought he was going to be boring.

    :lol::lol:

They deservedly took a lot of flack for that video. Never been a fan of that song either. However, the Throwing Copper album is generally really good. Despite some atrocious lyrics, they were a talented band with some really solid tunes. Shit Towne is still one of my favorite songs to rock out to. Waitress too.... they were good when they didn't take themselves too seriously. I gotta find the Mental Jewelry CD... I haven't listened to that in years!

Been a big live fan. Love Mental jewelry, love Throwing Copper, love The distance to Here...love "I Alone"...never saw that video before!!! Maybe I did and I turned it off so fast I didn't realize it. That is terrible!!!

I only have the Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi albums and a couple other singles. Yeah The I Alone video was definitely not a highlight for them, but i do like the song.

Only seen them once and that was at Rolling Rock in 2001, they were ok.

I've met the band a few times. Ed has been the one to always be there and say hi, sign autographs. Last time everyone did and all were really nice.
