Hitchhiking

My Mum and Dad would pick up the odd hitchhiker, so I guess that's who I got it from.
I've not picked up many myself, but I have a favourite.
22 years ago we were driving at night, going home from a 3 week road trip.
My partner was driving our camper van when he sped by some 'clean cut' kids hitch-hiking.
He said we "can't trust anybody".....THEN!!
20 minutes later he stops for a scruffy looking hermit bloke hitch hiking :? .
We had a 4hr jouney to go, so the men got in the back of the camper and sat at the table and drank beer while at 17 I had my first long-distant, highspeed, highway drive at night with lots of Nocturnal species going about thier bussiness. ( awesome)
Turned out the bloke lived accross from our home town pub and was so greatful for the 'best ride ever!' he gave us valuable shells and coral ect. He was a very eccentric fisherman who made his $$$ from the leftovers in craypots. I only recently lost the fossilised skeleton of a tiny seahorse he gave us.
The last one I picked up doesn't count. He was a drunk Irish man who hit me up at the pub for a lift home, and now thinks I'm his local taxi  .
So, I guess I'm saying it's a shame that some rotten apples ruined it for everybody.0 -

Dear Chad,
I think have drank a little too much bong water today. Please use rolling papers for the week.

When I was in college in Olympia, WA I hitchhiked all the time. It was my primary mode of transportation, and I picked up hitchhikers all the time. I just didn't allow people with dreadlocks in my car, since there were some funky ass dreadlock in that town. But I went to a total hippie school, and it was relatively safe. And it was a fun way to meet people. Especially stoners.
I don't think I would do it again. But it was fun.
...This isn't really hitchhiking, but it reminded me, a few weeks ago, I was on my way to work and I saw a woman in last night's outfit walking out of my man-whore neighbor's apartment. She was looking around, totally lost and had no idea where the hell she was. Perfect walk-of-shame moment. I felt so bad for her upcoming journey- either on a crowded rush-hour bus or trying to figure out where she was so she could call a cab, and then waiting in her tiny dress and heels. I pulled over and said "Just get in the car girl, I'll take you home. I've been there, its gonna be a long wait for a cab" We both laughed a bit and she appreciatively got in the car. I dropped her off and home and a light bulb went off. This would be a really good business- for chicks by chicks- no more walk of shame.

I have hitch hiked and I used to pick up hitch hikers all the time.
My only criteria was they couldn't be carrying anything, no bags, back packs, duffles etc...
not that they couldn't have a knife or gun in there pocket or anything! :?"...And I fight back in my mind. Never lets me be right.
I got memories. I got shit so much it don't show."0 -
