Any talk about whether these would be 4G / LTE compatible, in addition to CDMA?

i'd guess all the new verizon phones will have two radios, well, 3 radio's if you include wifi. it shouldn't really be an issue. the EVO and EPIC both have multiple radios to handle 3g, wifi, and wimax (sprints 4g)

no not put it in wouldn't be very bright

GSM iPhone already has three radios. EDGE, 3G, and WiFi. Multiple radios isn't a problem unless they can't figure out a way to manage the power draw.

wouldn't that kill the battery life if 3 radios are on the phone or am i totally wrong

in the manner that in addition to verizon, you can also get it on sprint, t-mobile etc...if apple really wanted market share they wouldn't have gone exclusive to att...if they had, android would never have gained the huge acceptance they are getting

    All completely true.

Having their products in all places at once has never been part of Apple's market strategy though (at least not since Jobs came back into the picture). They start off with their products in one place/area/region/store and then they expand their view slowly over time. This is what allows them to have such stellar sales performance figures over time. And, I would say, also why your stock is up 28,000x since purchasing it pre iPod.

true but by the time the iphone came about, they didn't really need this strategy...nearly everyone wanted an iphone...they would have made a bigger killing by having it on different carriers...really the exclusivity only benefited att

regardless, it is interesting that they are announcing this at the same time verizon is announcing 4g/lte and the vzw iphone will be on the old technology

But if AT&T is also switching to LTE, why bother making any with CDMA at all? Why not wait the extra couple of months to make LTE-only devices, which probably makes it easier and cheaper to mass produce?

...if iPhone is available AND on 4G, I'm in. As long as I don't have to not-touch certain spots on the phone, or wear an aluminum hat to get reception. :D

Completely agree. To this point Apple knows full well that they could move a much larger number of their product if they were on multiple carriers. I've read reasoning that ranged from poor negotiations to the idea that Apple insists Verizon not have it's logo on the iPhone as to why Verizon doesn't have it. Personally I think it has more to do with the engineering behind the phone being that the US is one of the only markets that uses CDMA. It makes sense that if Apple has limited hardware engineering capabilities they would devote their efforts to the largest possible market: the world (which uses GSM). The fact that they would have to make models with minor differences (for handling different frequency bands) would be less of an obstacle to over come than a completely reengineered board inside the unit itself.

But the truth is only Apple and Verizon (and possibly ATT) know why there is no iPhone on Verizon yet.

you can best believe it will be 4G and wont drop calls. verizon would be stupid to let apple give them a product that causes dropped calls like ATT did.

before anyone goes and buys stock in Apple, they just lost over half-a-billion dollars by ignoring a patent of a Unibomber victim.

  • There have been articles in the past few months stating that Verizon may never see an iPhone. Some say it has to do with CDMA, others say it has to do with Verizons relationship with Android. If it did happen, Verizons network would go to shit just like AT&Ts did. I'm an AT&T subscriber who would love Verizon to get it so coverage improves. The other issue has to do with Verizons 4G network. They would have to almost "re-do" their network because as it is now, it's not capable of 4G speeds.

I guess I'm the only one who goes on Mac rumors?

    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/10/06/ver ... en-iphone/

I would say it is definitely happening. I've been going on this site for over a year and EVERY rumor about a new Apple product posted on that site has came true.
